As an innocent young lad, I always counted MWOM 233 as being Apes #124,
because they had the whole cover! And a gorgeous cover it is, too.I may
be wrong, but I thinks it was only the Apes who were allowed to have
the entire cover of MWOM, to the exclusion of The Hulk etc.,showing
that they still had major pulling power in the UK. John, Scrolls.

sfx.co.uk wants to know what is the best SF movie ever?

If you look carefully at the right sidebar of this websites homepage,
a little lower down, you'll see The SFX Poll. you don't need to
    register, just vote!

What is the best SF movie ever? It's a toughie. We've narrowed it
down to 10 choices, and now we want you to cast your vote from this
selection. We'll leave the poll up for three weeks so that you get a
chance to register your opinion. Tell your friends and get them to
    vote too!

We're hoping to get some kind of definitive answer on this one,
folks, so click away and come back in early April to hear the final
    results

    http://www.sfx.co.uk/page/sfx?entry=the_best_sf_movie_ever

    The 10 choices:

    Back to the Future
    Serenity
    Planet of the Apes
    Forbidden Planet
    Star Wars
    The Matrix
    2001
    The Terminator
    Blade Runner
    Alien

The apes rifle was based on an M-1 Carbine, not an M-1 Garand, which is much longer.

Mannequin Skywalker.... that guy should have never ever ever been cast in that role. He was so wooden he could have been a droid.

George destroyed everything the first generation of SW fans grew up with - it would be like Burton making sequels to the POTA films and arsing it up worse than he already has.

One of the sad things with SW is Lucas established "facts", then
completely dispensed with them in a later movie...The same thing
happened with Anne McCaffrey's "Dragonrider" books...

It's not a new kit, it's been on the market for at least a couple of
years but I've never heard a bad thing about it. Rory has one, maybe
      he can tell you more.

There's two other versions of Taylor's ship, one from a company
called, Skyhook. It's smaller/cheaper but a superb little model. And
another from a company called, Wilco which I haven't seen but is, by
      all accounts, another cracker.

I'm sure a search on the web will turn up more info.

This little marvel is superb! Very small, but builds into a fantastic
little, mini diorama. The Ape needs a beard, which is very easy to add
with a little modelling putty and the likeness to Heston is remarkable.

For the past several years Glen, Helen, Dave and myself have been lobbying the U.S. Government to declassify the Presidential Commission Briefing Dossier on the 1973 visit from Cornelius and Zira. The Briefing Dossier contains all the initial reports and background materials to help get the Commission Members up to speed.

All of us were novices on the byzantine workings of Washington so at first we were a little unprepared for what we were getting in to. But we persevered and thanks to certain photos that Dave was able to obtain from a friend at MI6 as well as Glen's genius idea to tell Karl Rove that Cornelius & Zira had proof there were no WMD in Iraq; we were able to get the Briefing Dossier declassified.

A copy of the Dossier is now available on Hunter's site

https://pota.goatley.com/ and Simian Scrolls #13 has a special pull-out with highlighted excerpts.

Hi everyone. This is Mark Gonzalez/ ( Simian Arms ) I just wanted to

for me! I also wanted to be sure to say thank you to everyone who has
taken the time out to register and cast their vote for me in the
online comedy competition. It is really appreciated.

I've met and have become real good friends with members of this group
and I just have to say that apes fans are the best. It's great to have
a common interest with people that share your passion, thus the
creation of the Simian Arms website a few years back. I hope you have
all enjoyed it as much as I've enjoyed creating it, and if you haven't

A few years back I decided to pursue another passion of mine, Stand-up

Pryor take stage back in the day, but never had the courage to pursue
because I am actually one of the shyest people you will ever meet. But
I decided I wasn't going to let that stop me any more. Life's to short

Speaking of "POTA" parodies, anyone remember or seen "Jay and Silent-
Bob STRIKE BACK," they feature one of the funniest parodies of "POTA"
out there. Watch for it almost half way thru. It also features some of
the cast from "CLERKS (Brian O'Halloran & Jeff Anderson)," aswell as a
APEsized (Ape City) version of 'Leonardo, NJ' & the Quick Stop.

        Hi all,

My Name is Dave Lepage and I have been a die hard Ape fan since
childhood. I am the owner of the site New Ape Order and enjoy making
        custom Ape related action figures.
I just posted a folder with some examples of my work. I am also a
long time member of the Mego Museum where there are a lot of other
like minded ape heads like myself who also enjoy collecting mego POTA
        figures/toys.

I look foreward to speaking with you all.

I am glad I stumbled onto this site!

I was able to visit the set when they filmed the cornfield hunt parody. Unfortunately, they tried to distance the costumes and makeup a bit to avoid legal trouble. It was really slashed up in the final movie so I guess they didn't like how it turned out. Kevin Smith is a big "Apes" fan and was really looking forward to Burton's flick at the time, which was coming out in a few months (this was January 2001). He loved the teaser posters.  Jeff

I wish Lucas had let someone else do the writing and directing on the "Star Wars" prequels, with Lucas acting as consultant. He had too much to deal with running his empire. He had good actors but didn't have the time to give them to help with the blue screen acting. They were kind of hung out to dry, whereas, for example, on "King Kong" Peter Jackson had the actor who played Kong on the set to relate to the other actors. Say what you will about the new "King Kong", I think the acting between Naomi Watts and Kong was terrific. Sometimes in these big FX movies the actors are forgotten. Lucas is a good conceptualist but he's out of touch as a director. But it was his creation and I guess I'd rather have him srew it up than the suits.
But I think by far Episode 3 is the best of the prequels. It might be worth a look for those who skipped it after the first two.  Jeff

Mannequin Skywalker... . that guy should have never ever ever been cast in that role. He was so wooden he could have been a droid.

George destroyed everything the first generation of SW fans grew up with - it would be like Burton making sequels to the POTA films and arsing it up worse than he already has.

Unless I misread it...I was kind of in a hurry that day--I was certain that someone recently, in the last week or so, has mentioned that they had the actual footage of the crash on this forum.  Please correct me, members, if I'm wrong...

We should have that poster in the Files, or else, I believe it's on
                Hunter's site...
The actual crash?...I don't think it was ever filmed...Too much for
the budget...Where did you hear this?...

The Gold Key poster that you sent is of the demonstrating Apes:

                https://pota.goatley.com/comics/gold-key-beneath/original/GoldKeyPoster_copy.html"

Or at least I thought that was the poster.

Yes, Tim, please send me your high-res scan, and I'll add it.

                Thanks!

Just to let folks know, Booth Colman has decided to not attend the UK POTA convention in Birmingham at the end of the month. He'd like to make an appearance in the UK but the scheduling was off. But it sounds like a great event and my Urko helmet is off to Les Hemstock for putting it together. Hopefully Booth will cross the pond soon.  Jeff

I remember some of us discussing the crashlanding (or details about
the crash) of the ship in the "POTA" TV series. More precisely,
discussing the ranks of the 3 ANSA-nauts onboard.

In regards to the missing footage from "BENEATH" ... it's possible
that it might've been in one early version of the script, or novel,
but due to budget reasons, I don't think they ever filmed it.

Maybe, it appears in the MARVEL COMICS (or some other Indie
Publisher) adaptation of the film. I remember seeing a version
reprinted in the 1990's depicting the NYC mutants (how they really
look like under their masks) like rotting zombies.

Sad Booth can't make it, but the guy's gotta earn a crust. I recall a
story about John Gielgud, who was well into his 90s asking a friend
if he should change his long standing agent because he wasn't getting
enough work. These true actors just live to work. And long may it
                    continue. John, Scrolls.

Hi Jeff, I meant to say the original helmet, although Booth around the house
                    would be very cool.

The Gold Key poster that you sent is of the demonstrating Apes:

Or at least I thought that was the poster.

Yes, Tim, please send me your high-res scan, and I'll add it.

Fox's "Lord of the Rings" wannabe hits DVD in the States today. This is reportedly pretty awful and was written by the guys who wrote Burton's "Apes". Fox has done well when they do small movies like "Borat", "Napolean Dynamite" or "The Devil Wears Prada" (though I haven't personally seen any of them) but they just can't seem to get their big FX epics right. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Anyway, those who want to engage in Fox bashing as therapy might want to rent it.  Jeff

The Great Fox War Movies (Patton - Special Edition / The Longest Day / Tora! Tora! Tora! - Special Edition) (1970)

Apparently some time ago Fox put out this special package f three of its "War Movie" DVDs, including Frank Schaffner's PATTON.

Anyway, the set also included this:

This special edition collection is packaged in a beautiful, 162-page book: The Great Fox War Movies: A Visual Archive of Fox's Greatest War Films. The book contains an overview of classic war films as well as a behind-the-scenes making of each film included in the set (Patton, Tora! Tora! Tora!, and The Longest Day). Brimming with photos from each epic film and little-known production facts, this collection is a beautiful tribute to these award-winning classics.

I've also seen the latest issue of CinemaRetro magazine and it mentions this DVD package and that the editors of that mag had something to do with the making of the special edition book.

Now, one of these is those same guys I told you about before that did the recent commentaries for some Fox "Spy Movie" DVDs, and apparently wouldn't mind doing commentaries for a future DVD (probably Blu-ray) special edition of the APES films.

I'm thinking, "wouldn't it be great if such a special edition book were created on the classic APES film?"

So, if you haven't emailed the address I gave you before to give these guys some encourage mention to try to make such a project reality, please do so now.

Here's me first email on the subject (By the way, did this guy reply to any of you?):

                          OK everyone listen up.....

Recently there have been a series of Fox "Cold War/Spy" movies released on DVD in kind of mini-special editions, these have included the Arthur P. Jacobs/Mort Abraham's produced THE CHAIRMAN (1969), THE QUILLER MEMORANDUM (1966) and the 1966-67 James Coburn FLINT films.  What's made these DVDs fun for me is that they all have commentary tracks by two uber movie geeks, Eddie Friedfeld and Lee Pfeiffer.  Both are middle-aged film scholars who teach in colleges in New York City, and Lee Pfeiffer edits the magazine "Cinema Retro" out of England (see: www.cinemaretro.com), and they are huge fans of films from the 60's and 70's and, of course, that includes the APES films.  In their commentaries for these recent Cold War/Spy DVDs they often mention the APES movies.

Anyway, I've had an email contact with one of them, Eddie Friedfeld, about getting all the APES movies commentary tracks for a future DVD release, perhaps a 40th Anniversary Blu-ray special edition.  He and his partner have a desire to do it, and they'd like to hear from as many APES fans as possible -- in emails -- so as to show Fox there's support in the market for it.

So, I'm now asking EVERYONE in these Yahoo groups to email this guy and tell him you want commentary tracks for EACH film, and then anything else you desire for a future DVD release of the APES films.  The FLINT films had a host of new featurettes, including a tribute to Jerry Goldsmith.  The commentary tracks these two guys do are a lot of fun to listen to.

So, here's his name again...  Eddie Friedfeld... and his email address is:

                          Q007solo@...

Also, spread the word to other APES fans you know who aren't in these Yahoo groups.  Let's see what we can get done.

I read the book...It was awful...It was a bad reworking of SW:ANH, set

I haven't read the books but my son has, and while we haven't seen the movie he was horrified by the trailer.  Apparently the film gets it completely bassackwards.

I saw it and was pretty bored. The story goes too fast with no character development and you never feel any main character is really in any danger. Made me not want to ever read the book.
