The great thing, for me (since I don't buy any collectibles that
aren't story-based), is that if the new film succeeds, we may
eventually see a new comic-book series.

The figures are awesome and I to hope they sell well so we can get
tons more of them. I love to even see them redo the playsets like they
are doing with the Trek Mego Bridge. :D

As someone who hears from the guy that makes these (Paul Clark, a.k.a. Doc Mego), sales are the key for more releases. All the releases depend on what Fox approves for mass production and so far, they've only approved the first 4 of the original Megos(excluding generic Astronaut). Doc Mego has suggested Taylor, and if the Heston likeness was too hard to get (although I don't think it is these days) Dodge or Landon in order to get some movie astronauts on the market and Fox has not gone along with it yet. I think that Fox is waiting for sales feedback before committing to more figures reissue and new. So, sales are indeed the key.

I've been having fun doing custom packaging repros of the rare boxes for these new figures, old figures and customs for people.

Subject: Hello All

Hello All,
My name is Jon. My wife Rosa is the one who has the email address and
I hoped no one is ticked off at me for punching in the membership
stuff wrong, it still said female and Rosa when I submitted the
membership info so it was accidentally submitted that way. But I can
assure you all that I am in fact a 39 year old male.
Anyway, I started my interest in POTA as a child of 4 or 5 years
old, back when Planet of the Apes (the first film) aired on CBS in
the early 70's. I also remember when the tv series first aired and
have a lot of fond memories of playing with Planet of the Apes toys.
As a boy I had the Colorforms set and I remember a Conquest coloring
book. I also had the Power Records sets along with the Marvel Comic
Books.
My love of POTA goes very far back. I don't want to upset anyone
or ruffle any feathers, but although the 2001 remake had a few good
parts to it, I really can't stand that movie. I've tried to come to
terms with it, watching it again recently only ending up feeling like
one of those folks who wanted their money back after watching that
last Indiana Jones film. So I'm a purist, only having an affection
for the 5 movies and the tv series.
I love the new fan fiction. I've read several posts from others
here and it really has been fantastic! I liked the comic book story
about the Forbidden Zone which showed the mutants in the ANSA museum.
The guys who did that were extremely clever. I hope they continue. I
also very much enjoyed the SG-1 cross over story with Beneath the
Planet of the Apes. I've posted a few photos and am doing POTA photo
stories utilizing GIJOES (also a 70s thing and whose beards were
possibly inspired by POTA). I'm working on an idea where Taylor
becomes a general for the Ape Army. It's an alternate universe story.
Look forward to participating in the group. Jon

A 50/50 split. I guess this we'll have to add this to the list of topics that will never be decisively resolved. LOL

I'm here and willing :). Since I last did boxes for you I now have larger printing capability so I no longer have to "Splice" the top and bottom of 12" boxes.

Excellent. I have a custom Zaius figure that sorely needs a box. We can chat more about this after the holiday.

BTW, can you print something on canvas? I have a project in mind but might have to go to a Ritz Camera to get it done. I'd prefer to send the work your way knowing the quality that you do.

Your Monster boxes are second to none.

I'll email you some pix. They are big enough to fit on a tee shirt. One is of Dr. Zaius (it has a green background) and the other is Ursus (it has a hot pink background).

It is the assumption that everyone hates that movie that causes problems on lists like this  - I enjoyed the remake BUT do not see it as part of the original franchise - please do not speak for me.

      .html
1- I like more and more violent scenes added in. Those can be
continuity, and make a far better movie in my book.

2- Breck beaten to death by the gorillas. Who said he didn't enter in a
comatose state, and then his hospital went ATOMIZED during the war?
What's Kopl's line in BATTLE suggesting Breck was killed during the
      war? Can you report that?

3- CON: Caesar is NO MORE a hero. He is a slaughter. The final speech
full of hate is not "in line" with the society he had created before
      the time BATTLE takes place.

4- CON: Lisa doesn't say "NO". Beautiful scene. And it showed the
timeline has changed because Cornelius, Zira and Caesar.

SO I'M CONFUSED NOW --- sigh!

Actually, the way humans are treated in BATTLE are more in tune with the "alternate" edition of CONQUEST.  Caesar clearly states that "there no place for humans - except to "serve' our own ends" - humans are lower, and seem to be the servants of the apes, not equals.  They are the manual labor force.  It's not until the end there 'seems" to be a change.  Caesar also also tells MacDonald in BATTLE when the apes grow to trust humans "then they will be equals".  His manner may have toned down, but there is clearly a separation.  So, it does all work really - no better or less than a lot of other things between the films.

      Scott,

You're pretty much right on this, THANKS! And James, gret feedback
      yours too.

      I'm just wondering:

Was the editing of the final speech in CONQUEST-THEATRICAL very bad,
since it was totally "made-up" to please the FOX studio?

Actually, I'm just complaining for the LISA "NO" scene. Was that bab-
      edited too, after all?

Ultimately, I did order the book through eBay rather than Lulu, and
the shipping charge was acceptable (and, to give Lulu its due, the
packaging was magnificent -- I've never seen a book so well packed for
      shipping by any commercial vendor).

And the final product, now that I have it in my hands?

It's terrific! Much bigger than I'd thought it would be (the pages
are 8.5x11"), very nicely printed, excellent and fascinating content,
and just a whole lot of fun to leaf through. I'm very pleased to have
      a copy. Congratulations, Rich!

Very nice.  I see you've been customizing the Sideshows too.

I'll bet you could do a great Lawgiver Statue from the original, better than Sideshow's.

          Hi, folks,

A fellow Apes fan named Kevin Law just sent me a great shot of the
          complete POTA
Chad Valley Picture Show set, which I've uploaded for you all to see:

          http://rhandley.0catch.com/POTA/images/chad_valley_planet_apes_75.jpg

This is the best condition I have yet to see one of these sets
          in. Much to my frustration,
he sent it to me AFTER we my book came out--I would have loved to
          have used this
shot instead of the one that we did use. We may swap it out for
          future printings.

Go straight to the point, guys:

1- About the EXPANDED BATTLE, some time ago John/Shanter wrote:

"This may have been mentioned already, but some of the restored footage
in Battle is in the wrong place. When Virgil shoots the camera, that
should be before they find the tape, the whole point being that,
because of Virgil, they now have to really hurry to find it.MacDonald
says, after the camera is shot, we still have time to go to 'work' and
reaches for another tape.Nopt really sure why this is in the wrong
spot, unless there's a technical reason I'm too thick to understand!"

          SO? Is he right?

2- Forget BATTLE. Now, let's pretend they (Jacobs) never made
the 'CAESAR TRILOGY' (the last three POTA sequels). And forget the
BENEATH novelization too... (work of fiction).
What 'MENDEZ I' MUST HAVE BEEN in the BENEATH internal logic?
Why 'MENDEZ 26' took that name? Who was 'MENDEZ I'? Let's pretend they
never filmed BATTLE to get my point...

          Thank you so much, T.C.

            Hello All,
My name is Jon.
Jon

              Kim's Makeup Man passed away.
              Interesting comments:

Although not credited, Leo worked with John Chambers on the massive project Planet of the Apes. Leo was assigned to Kim Hunter who played the character of Dr. Zira. He later worked on the sequel, but decided that would be the end of it for him. "The long hours, early set calls, the strain of doing a completed makeup with somebody always saying "speed it up" got to me…so I went on to other shows."

I see from the same article that the guy who did the Cowardly Lion makeup for '39s WIZARD OF OZ also died recently.

I think that makeup design looks like Dr. Zaius' crazy cousin.</ div>

In this, the first in the APES saga, Hestons stone-chiseled features
and bare chest bring us the movie that was to create an empire. After
an accident in space, astronaut George Taylor (Heston) finds that he
has crash-landed on a strange planet where humans are subservient to
the Ape-Lords of the world. Finding himself less than welcomed, Taylor
endures trials and tortures from the highly intelligent simians,
forcing him to utter the first words ever spoken by a human to the
apes, keep your hands off me you damn dirty apes! Taylor desperately
tries to regain his freedom and get off of the God-forsaken planet,
only to discover that this foreign land may not be as distant as he
suspected. Dir Franklin J. Schaffer, 1959, USA, 112 min. New 35mm

Zaius' crazy cousin./ div>

No problem! I've got a garage *and* a detached workshop/garage.
You'd have to draw straws for who gets the privilege of sleeping in

                  2. No real need for speculation here. Take a look at an early draft of the script (https://pota.goatley.com/scripts/pota_revisited_first_01.pdf) page 58, scene 132. The second paragraph describs a portrait of Mendez I.

In the final version, the portraits were replaced with busts of the Mendez dynasty. Easier for gorillas to smash;-)

Mmmmm.... I don't believe I've read anyone say this before:

"It would be an interesting question for a panel at a science fiction convention: What was the most important year in the history of science fiction film? One might choose the year that saw the appearance of a single landmark film, such as 1927 (Fritz Lang's Metropolis) or 1936 (William Cameron Menzies's Things to Come). 1950 would be a good candidate, since that was the year whenDestination Moon and its cheap imitation Rocketship X-M effectively established science fiction as a recognized film genre. I am tempted to argue for 1968, the year that brought us the greatest science fiction film of all time (the intriguingly cryptic 2001: A Space Odyssey) and the most influential science fiction film of all time (the comfortingly familiar Planet of the Apes, which showed Hollywood executives that they could profit by investing in exotic-looking adventures while still following conventional formulas, making this landmark film the direct ancestor of most modern science fiction films)."

Does this mean PLANET gets the blame for BATTLEFIELD EARTH?

I read this a little while ago on a DVD review site, tested it and it's true:

OK, on all the Blu-ray APES DVDs there's this annoying Lawgiver CGI intro that you must watch before you can get to the main menu screen, well it turns out you can thankfully skip it -- and this is apparently true of all Fox Blu-ray DVDs:

When the red Fox copyright screen first pops up (it's the first thing that opens on the disc), simply press the "Top Menu" button on your remote and the player will go almost directly to the main menu. I say almost because you still have to view that "ANSA" logo thingie, but praise the Lawgiver we don't have to endure the CGI Lawgiver.

On the website Fox has (had?) up all the way back when the 30th Anniversary VHS Box Set came out in 1998, I remember that you could pull down actor bios from each film. If I recall correctly, Stoker said something like he got a phone call from his agent on January 1st, and they were already filming the next day. He also said something about doing all the physical stuff first (walking through the desert etc) so he had time to memorize his lines and become familiar with his character. I guess that jives with what you said about it being filmed in the winter of 1973.

Isn't that the photo where her and Kolp are standing next to the Alpha Omega bomb? Funny that the set was lit a lot more brightly for that photo than what you see in the film. I can imagine that movies goers saw that lobby card and walked away afterwards wondering where the scene was.
