One more...an older sculpt that I did. Can you guess who this guy is?
I am going to redo his hair. I think I can do better now, but this was my first attempt at curly hair on a sculpt.

The spaceship in Planet of the Apes may have indeed been called "ICARUS."
A movie was released back in 2006 called "SUNSHINE." The story of this film is based on 8 astronauts sent out into space to revive our dying sun in a spaceship called "ICARUS."
The connection? Both "Planet of the Apes" and "Sunshine" were released by 20th Century Fox. :o)
I saw this movie the other day on cable. Enjoyed so much I rented it on Blu Ray. For those who haven't seen it, you should check it out.
This film was directed by Danny Boyle (2009 Golden Globe for Best Director) who of course also directed "Slumdog Millionaire" (2009 Golden Globe for Best Picture).

Montalban, 88, was in deteriorating health over the last several days, but "died peacefully" at 6:30 a.m., son-in-law Gilbert Smith said. He understood "it was his time," Smith said. The cause of death was not given. ------------------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Links <*> To visit your group on the web,

.htmlRicardo Montalban dies at 88
By BOB THOMAS The Associated Press Wednesday, January 14, 2009; 4:53 PM
LOS ANGELES -- Ricardo Montalban, the Mexican-born actor who became a star in splashy MGM musicals and later as the wish-fulfilling Mr. Roarke in TV's "Fantasy Island," died Wednesday morning at his home, a city councilman said. He was 88.
Montalban's death was announced at a city council meeting by president Eric Garcetti, who represents the district where the actor lived. Garcetti did not give a cause of death.
"What you saw on the screen and on television and on talk shows, this very courtly, modest, dignified individual, that's exactly who he was," said Montalban's longtime friend and publicist David Brokaw.
Montalban had been a star in Mexican movies when MGM brought him to Hollywood in 1946. He was cast in the leading role opposite Esther Williams in "Fiesta," and starred again with the swimming beauty in "On an Island with You" and "Neptune's Daughter."
But Montalban was best known as the faintly mysterious, white-suited Mr. Roarke, who presided over a tropical island resort where visitors were able to fulfill their lifelong dreams _ usually at the unexpected expense of a difficult life lesson. Following a floatplane landing and lei ceremony, he greeted each guest with the line: "I am Mr. Roarke, your host. Welcome to Fantasy Island."
The show ran from 1978 to 1984.
More recently, he appeared as villains in two hits of the 1980s: "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan" and the farcical "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad."
Between movie and TV roles, Montalban was active in the theater. He starred on Broadway in the 1957 musical "Jamaica" opposite Lena Horne, picking up a Tony nomination for best actor in a musical.
He toured in Shaw's "Don Juan in Hell," playing Don Juan, a performance critic John Simon later recalled as "irresistible." In 1965 he appeared on tour in the Yul Brynner role in "The King and I."
"The Ricardo Montalban Theatre in my Council District _ where the next generations of performers participate in plays, musicals, and concerts _ stands as a fitting tribute to this consummate performer," Garcetti said later in a written statement.
"Fantasy Island" received high ratings for most of its run on ABC, and still appears in reruns. Mr. Roarke and his sidekick, Tattoo, played by the 3-foot, 11-inch Herve Villechaize, reached the state of TV icons. Villechaize died in 1993.
In a 1978 interview, Montalban analyzed the series's success:
"What is appealing is the idea of attaining the unattainable and learning from it. Once you obtain a fantasy, it becomes a reality, and that reality is not as exciting as your fantasy. Through the fantasies you learn to appreciate your own realities."
As for Mr. Roarke: "Was he a magician? A hypnotist? Did he use hallucinogenic drugs? I finally came across a character that works for me. He has the essence of mystery, but I need a point of view so that my performance is consistent. I now play him 95 percent believable and 5 percent mystery. He doesn't have to behave mysteriously; only what he does is mysterious."
In 1970, Montalban organized fellow Latino actors into an organization called Nosotros ("We"), and he became the first president. Their aim: to improve the image of Spanish-speaking Americans on the screen; to assure that Latin-American actors were not discriminated against; to stimulate Latino actors to study their profession.
Montalban commented in a 1970 interview:
"The Spanish-speaking American boy sees Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid wipe out a regiment of Bolivian soldiers. He sees `The Wild Bunch' annihilate the Mexican army. It's only natural for him to say, `Gee, I wish I were an Anglo.'"
Montalban was no stranger to prejudice. He was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Mexico City, the son of parents who had emigrated from Spain. The boy was brought up to speak the Castilian Spanish of his forebears. To Mexican ears that sounded strange and effeminate, and young Ricardo was jeered by his schoolmates.
His mother also dressed him with old-country formality, and he wore lace collars and short pants "long after my legs had grown long and hairy," he wrote in his 1980 autobiography, "Reflections: A Life in Two Worlds."
"It is not easy to grow up in a country that has different customs from your own family's."
While driving through Texas with his brother, Montalban recalled seeing a sign on a diner: "No Dogs or Mexicans Allowed." In Los Angeles, where he attended Fairfax High School, he and a friend were refused entrance to a dance hall because they were Mexicans.
Rather than seek a career in Hollywood, Montalban played summer stock in New York. He returned to Mexico City and played leading roles in movies from 1941 to 1945. That led to an MGM contract.
Besides the Williams spectacles, the handsome actor appeared in "Sombrero" (opposite Pier Angeli), "Two Weeks With Love" (Jane Powell) and "Latin Lovers" (Lana Turner).
He also appeared in dramatic roles in such films as "Border Incident," "Battleground," "Mystery Street" and "Right Cross."
"Movies were never kind to me; I had to fight for every inch of film," he reflected in 1970. "Usually my best scenes would end up on the cutting-room floor."
Montalban had better luck after leaving MGM in 1953, though he was usually cast in ethnic roles. He appeared as a Japanese kabuki actor in "Sayonara" and an Indian in "Cheyenne Autumn." His other films included: "Madame X," "The Singing Nun," "Sweet Charity," "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" and "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes."
Montalban was sometimes said to be the source of Billy Crystal's "you look MAHvelous" character on "Saturday Night Live," though the inspiration was really Argentinian-born actor Fernando Lamas.
In 1944, Montalban married Georgiana Young, actress and model and younger sister of actress Loretta Young. Both Roman Catholics, they remained one of Hollywood's most devoted couples. She died in 2007. They had four children: Laura, Mark, Anita and Victor.
Montalban suffered a spinal injury in a horse fall while making a 1951 Clark Gable Western, "Across the Wide Missouri," and thereafter walked with a limp he managed to mask during his performances.
In 1993, Montalban lost the feeling in his leg, and exhaustive tests showed that he had suffered a small hemorrhage in his neck, similar to the injury decades earlier. He underwent 9 1/2 hours of spinal surgery at UCLA Medical Center.
Despite the constant pain, the actor was able to take a role in an Aaron Spelling TV series, "Heaven Help Us." Twice a month in 1994, he flew to San Antonio for two or three days of filming as an angel who watched over a young couple.
In an interview at the time, Montalban remarked: "I've never given up hope. But I have to be realistic. I gave my tennis rackets to my son, figuring I'll never play again. But my doctor said, `Don't say that. Strange things happen. You never know.'"

Well- I disagree sharply with your assessment of SUNSHINE. Although
your complaint is the standard one I read about the film I think the
shocking turn the story takes is brilliant. Madness always is, I guess.
And for the record I think madness was where Taylor was headed at the
end of POTA. Just imagine of there had been no sequels....

As for Forrest Ackerman, he produced two LP's in the sixties -- "Famous

The second one was actually narrated by Forry himself. I also have a

Actor starred in 'Fantasy Island,' 'Star Trek II'
Ricardo Montalban, the actor best known as the white-suited "boss" Mr. Roarke of "Fantasy Island," died Wednesday in Los Angeles. He was 88.
Montalban became a household name in the late 1970s through his starring role on the long-running Aaron Spelling/ABC anthology series. But during a long career in showbiz, Montalban appeared in dozens of features, commercials, on Broadway and in numerous other TV series.
He also became a pop culture icon for his TV ads for the Chrysler Cordoba, describing the car's "soft Corinthian leather" in his deep, accented voice.
Montalban, who was injured in a horseback accident while making 1951's "Across the Wide Missouri," had a spinal operation in 1993 and had been mostly confined to a wheelchair ever since, although he continued to work until recently, mostly providing voices for animated films and TV shows.
Montalban won an Emmy for his role in the James Arness series "How the West Was Won" in 1978, the same year "Fantasy Island" began its long run on ABC's Saturday night lineup. As host of the anthology series along with Herve Villechaize, Montalban was recognized throughout the world. After the series ended in 1984, he appeared as a regular on "The Colbys" from 1985 to 1987. He also played Khan Noonien Singh on the "Star Trek" series and in the 1982 film "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."
Born in Mexico City, the actor was also an outspoken proponent for the fair representation of Latinos in entertainment and in 1970 founded Nosotros, an organization devoted to that cause.
When his older brother Carlos (the actor best known as El Exigente in television coffee commercials) emigrated to the U.S., Montalban followed and attended Fairfax High School. A talent scout from MGM spotted him and offered him a screen test. But Montalban chose instead to move to New York to work in the theater. He co-starred on Broadway with Tallulah Bankhead in "Her Cardboard Lover," and worked onstage in New York before returning to Mexico to tend to his ailing mother.
He appeared in several Mexican films before returning to Hollywood, where MGM put him under contract. He made his debut opposite Esther Williams and Cyd Charisse in "Fiesta" in 1947, which led to a string of similar roles in such films as "The Kissing Bandit," "Neptune's Daughter," "Battleground" "The Black Pirate," "Sombrero" and "Latin Lover."
His contract with MGM expired in 1955 and Montalban freelanced in several movies such as "A Life in the Balance," and "Saracen Blade." He also began appearing regularly on television in such programs as "Climax," "Island in the City," "Playhouse 90," "Wagon Train," "Schlitz Playhouse" and "The Loretta Young Show," hosted by his sister-in-law.
In 1956 and later, in the early 70s, Montalban toured in George Bernard Shaw's "Don Juan in Hell" in the title role. It led to an offer to star in what turned out to be a flop Broadway musical based on the film "Seventh Heaven."
Thereafter, he shuttled between various mediums, taking on a role as a Asian man in "Sayonara," in 1957, jumping into the Lena Horne hit musical "Jamaica" and such films as "Love is a Ball," "Let No Man Write My Epitaph," "Cheyenne Autumn," "Madame X," "The Reluctant Saint," "Adventures of a Young Man," "The Singing Nun" and the Bob Fosse adaptation of "Sweet Charity" in 1969.
He later appeared in the "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" and "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" in the early 1970s and 1988's feature version of the short lived TV series "The Naked Gun."
He continued to voice roles for animated series and films until recently, with roles in "Family Guy," "Kim Possible," "Dora the Explorer" and "The Ant Bully."
In 1980 he published his autobiography, "Reflections: A Life in Two Worlds."
Hollywood's Doolittle Theater was renamed the Ricardo Montalban Theater for the actor, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild in 1993.
Montalban's wife Georgiana Young, sister of actresses Loretta Young and Sally Blane, died in 2003. They had two daughters and two sons.

It's all proportions and getting the measurements and time & temp
right.
If you can bake a cake you can do foam. Just stay away from non
makeup
colorants, unless you like cleaning sticky goo out of your molds.

I dont know if any help but the buzz that i have heard is they are talking
about a remake of conquest of planet of the apes and burton isn't / wont be
the director.
Going by the original if this is the case this film could be remade and
look quite dark and sinister.
Hope that was some use to you <.html <.html

.htmlHi, Mike,
There's a new film coming out in 2010 called Caesar, which will be
unconnected to any of the previous Apes films. Set in the current
day, it will apparently be about a revolution of (I believe
genetically enhanced) apes, but will not feature any of them speaking,
according to early reports.

Alert for: "planet of the apes"
I have to wonder what this person's problem is when he writes:
"However the cinematography and direction fared less well. Being only able to view it from my Special FX laden view, I c
an only say that it defiantly shows for the time period. It never became an issue with my enjoyment but it gave the whole science fiction aspect of the film a bit of a cheesy glow. This is mirrored in all of the sound effects as well, which are implemented with all the awe and wonder of a watching paint dry. It's a shame, especially since seeing "2001: A space Odyssey" which does science fiction incredibly well and came out just 3 days later (USA)"
As far as the cinematography goes, which I think is great, is it the number of zooms in the movie that bothers this person? I've never counted them, but there are an awful lot of zoom shots in PLANET, perhaps too many. As far as the direction goes, I'm not sure what he's implying. Anyway, you know the younger generation these days... perhaps he thinks the film is too slow?

Remakes are just unnecessary, in my opinion.

eBay was my first thought, but I wanted to ask the "experts" first.
