Yes, a new transfer would make sense, but restorations are very
expensive, especially for old films that wont sell millions. I bet this
new version is just a new transfer, not a completely new restoration.

If you by fan fiction means anyting unofficial created by fans, then I
for one would not be much interested. I tend to be interested in the
official releases, the official stories, not because they are better but
because anyone can create anything as a fan and that would sort of
remove the need for the minds of the official creators, and it's thanks
to them that we have POTA. I am not into fanfiction at all, for the sole
reason that it waters down the official releases.

In fact, all the official stuff that is released under the Star Wars
name is also watering down my experience of the SW films, so I try to
avoid most of that too.

That's just my opinion, but I may not be unique.

So today we continue the adventure. We checked out of the hotel in Seattle and went back into the city to go to the Science Fiction Museum. It was so cool! But sad to say they do not allow pictures to be taken- but there were so many things to see it took us a couple of hours to go through it all. They had robots - ones I remember was: Robot (danger danger Will Robinson!) from Lost in Space. The metropolis robot- R2D2 from Star Wars-

There were Borg and stormtroopers- apes from planet of the apes-

new found planets and amazing flying machines! The space suit worn by John Lithgow- and the suit that Matthew L. from the new Lost in Space wore. (he is much shorter than John Lithgow!) And Farrah costume from Logans run was there…. whowhooooooo tiny little piece of fabric.

There were homemade costumes that people had made for scifi conventions and had won contests with. those were pretty cool- discovered a new use for vacuum hoses!

There were masks for Planet of the Apes, Clingons and Far Scape.

There were original scripts for Star Trek and you could see where the actors made notes in them.

Old Sci-fi comic books and also weapons from Flash Gordon to Aliens! Plus… examples toy weapons from back in the 50s. Like the dreaded Ray Gun……

The list is just too long. It was a fun visit!!

That's definitely Apemania goodness there. The Heston figure...don't know who created that mannequin and what they used for a reference, but the apes are definitely Apemania.

he only problem that I have with this technology is what happens if it
breaks? While it is convieniant if the disc with 100 movies breaks
(literally snaps) you loose 100 movies - at least at the moment if one
disc breaks then its only ONE movie

Subject: Marcus Boas: POTA Cover Painting, 1970s
    .html
This is some exciting news, I think, for PLANET OF THE APES fans.

One of the first newsstand magazines to provide a complete overview of
the APES series, was CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN, a late '50s to mid '70s
contemporary of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND.

When I first saw the APES issue, I was struck by the POTA wraparound
cover, by my old friend, Marcus Boas, here:

    POTACoF23a.jpg
    http://www.geocities.com/unifan2001/CoF23a.jpg

That is, he's my old friend, now!

    ;-)

Back in 1973, it would still be a few years before we met!

Marcus did other covers for COF, and he pretty quickly went on to paint
covers for HEAVY METAL magazine, Jim Steranko's MEDIASCENE, one of the
hardback CONAN series... He also did a ton of movie posters, and
    other fantasy artwork.

(You can see some of it, here:
    "marcus boas" - Google Image
    http://images.google.com/images?gbv=1&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=%22marcus+boas%22&start=0&sa=N

Marcus is still more than active, as any of you who have visited any of
the New York City comic book conventions can attest to!

Marc recently mentioned to me that he'd be more than happy to paint
recreations of the 1970s PLANET OF THE APES magazine cover.

Or, for that matter, any other original fantasy artwork, APES, or
    otherwise.

The other good news is that his prices are more than reasonable.

If you're interested, give him a holler, after 12 noon, at:

    1-212-989-6193.

Marcus screens his calls, so when you get his answering machine, just
mention POTA, and/or me, and he'll be sure to get in touch.

    Best, Jim

Greetings, everyone.  As you are all now aware, I sent the Apes cards to my friend who runs the site "Crosseyed Cyclops".  I have been trading collectibles with him for some time now, in particular comics and non-sports cards.  Some of the items I have sent him were then posted to his site, while others were not.  He asked me for some non-sports sci-fi cards, and I sent him the Apes cards, among others.  He did not tell me before posting them on his site.  Since I have seen today that this has caused some concern with the group, I checked his site and found that he had, indeed, posted them without my knowledge.  After seeing the concerns of the group, I have contacted him and asked him to remove them from his site.  I apologize for "overstepping my bounds", and hope you can accept that it was not intentional.  The cards should be removed from his site within the next day or two.  Again, please accept my apologies for an unintentional foul-up.

    Thanks again Jeff!

I just want to say something about this whole thing. The files here in the Group's Files Section and on the Group Website are free for everyone to download for their personal collections. Same is true for Hunter's site as well as most other POTA sights and groups. I don't think anyone who created these files minds other fans downloading them.

However, creating those files whether it be a piece of art or fan fiction or something more complicated like the "fantasy cards" takes a lot of time and effort. Even the scanning and restoration of an old magazine takes hours of work. So when someone uploads files to another site without giving proper credit to the people who created and generated these files is just disrespectful. While FOX ultimately owns anything POTA related, including these files, those who created them did so for love of POTA, not to make money, and it is only right to acknowledge their efforts.

Some years back, Dark Horse comics produced an ALIENS Illustrated Novella. Basically it was a mostly text story with a dozen or so full page paintings spread throughout the book. I can't comment on the quality of the story but as a product it was pretty stylish.

We may never know who exactly the actors were playing the gorillas.
Was he one of the gorilla bailiffs during the hearing, or one of the
hunters that got his picture took with the fresh kill, or was he the
one eating the food out of his hand when they came to tell Julius to
    get Taylor ready for surgery?

It's cool how even in his Urko makeup, Mark Lenard's face is quite distinctive.

"Wolverine", the new "X-Men" movie from Fox started the summer off right for the studio with an estimated $ 87 million opening weekend. The movie overcame reviews (from critics and fans alike) that skewered it as if it were on the business end of the title character's claws, and a leaked workprint that spelled disaster. The # 2 movie, the comedy "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" was at $15 million. Next week the onslaught begins with "Star Trek"; remains to be seen if "Wolverine" can hold up.

OK from the votes the Top 10 are (drumroll please):

              1. Cornelius (Roddy McDowall/David Watson) 25 votes
              2. Zira (Kim Hunter) 24 votes
              3. Caesar (Roddy McDowall) 24 votes
              4. Dr. Zaius (Maurice Evans) 23 votes
              5. Galen (Roddy McDowall) 20 votes
              6. George Taylor (Charlton Heston) 19 votes
              7. Ursus (James Gregory) 18 votes
              8. Armando (Ricardo Montalban) 18 votes
              9. Brent (James Franciscus) 16 votes
              10. Nova (Linda Harrison) 15 votes

I guess this speaks to the popularity of Roddy McDowall. All three of his characters made the list. All in the top five.

I am surprized that Taylor didn't better. Even Dr. Zaius got more votes.

I can't seem to find any info about the equipment the apes used on their horses. We've seen Taylor riding on leather western style stirups (makes sense with bare feet) yet we see Urko with metal stirups. All the saddles seem to have a (black?) sheepskin like cover, with a simple bridle and rein set up. I've paid attention to the movies and TV series and the latter gives more glimpses of the kit used, but I'd really like some answers. Any ideas?

              Hi Steve!
The answer you seek is, they used what could be found or modified from Fox's old western stock. In addition, the horse wrangler would have had custom tack made for specific horses based on the needs of the animal and the actors riding in the shot. You might try finding the original animal wrangler on the IMDB, and see if he is still alive, and if there is any contact info-(I do not know for sure) That would be the way to go. I grew up next door to one of the prop guys from the TV, show he also worked on most of the features. He has since passed on. I my self worked only on the most recent version, a few key props that made it to the screen. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any help, here is my phone number (in Los Angels,CA) 818-391-8522, if you or any of the ape fans ever "Have a any need to know, or need some help" for your own project, just ring me up!
              Cheers!

If he sold you the photos, he no longer owns them. They're yours to do with as you please. And if you paid him for other photos, he has to send them to you, period. If he doesn't, make sure you inform eBay and PayPal, and also keep publicizing it here and elsewhere, until you receive ether the photos or your money back.

you know all that ive been reading in the emails about these photos #1 it sounds like he is reproducing the photos and is trying to protect them from becoming "less" then rare. but he obviously doesnt realise sales are final and these become your property to do with what you wish.
case in point a wealthy oil barron in 1900 purchased a valued building that was historic and burned it to the ground it cause outrage and ppl tried to stop him but alas it was his property and by his destroying it drove the value of the home he owned next to it up in value 3 fold. seller be aware.

If he sold you the photos, he no longer owns them. They're yours to do with as you please. And if you paid him for other photos, he has to send them to you, period. If he doesn't, make sure you inform eBay and PayPal, and also keep publicizing it here and elsewhere, until you receive ether the photos or your money back.

a complaint that I havent recieved the photos. The person name is Joe Russo, and
went so far to accuse me of stealing from him. I worked at the Justice Department
and I talked to some agent who were lawyers in San Francisco and one of them told me
to go to Paypal to logged a complaint against to settle this problem.  he thinks that he still

I know there was talk of the UK Live shows lately......
I have a magazine called Action TV that was put out in Nov. of 2006.
It has an extensive well written article about the TV series which I will scan someday.....
Much credit was given to the editors of Simian Scrolls for their help....
But the last paragraph talks about the stage shows....

"Unusually, at least for an American TV show of this era, a UK-based promotions company named TCP (which also ran the official British Planet of the Apes fan club) arranged a whole series of live appearances by costumed characters from the programme at venues across the country. With the parts of Galen, Urko, Dr Zaius and their human adversaries played by stand-ins and stunt performers, TCP organised both shopping centre public appearances and mini 'adventure shows' at sports grounds, safari parks and other suitable sites. Between 1975 and 1977, TCP put together more than 150 such shows. The company also scripted and produced an origianl Planet of the Apes stage play, which premiered at the Theatre Royal, Stratford in London on 19 August 1976."

Anyone have any specific info on the stageplay?
