Apparently, there was a Hammer film called Creatures the World
Forgot, that starred a savage human character named Toomak.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatures_the_World_Forgot
Well, as it happens, there was also a primitive human named Toomak
associated with Planet of the Apes, in the aborted Jack Kirby / Ruby
Spears POTA cartoon of the 1980s, which would have been based on the TV series.
https://pota.goatley.com/scrolls/simianscrolls_06_part1.pdf
I'm curious if they were paying homage to the old Hammer film when
they conceived that character.

the movie and the TV show. I rented an episode of the TV show that had
McDowall in it. He played a creep that was killing taxi drivers for

I thought of this at work today and thought it should be posted just to
give everyone something to think about. So, here's the question
(really two questions):
What BENEATH actor had his screen debut in a film that starred the
future director of ESCAPE, and what BENEATH actor initially starred in
the TV series based on that film?
I wonder how long it'll take you's here to answer this one?

.html Hello to all!
I am Andrew E. C. Gaska, CEO and creative director of BLAM! Ventures, and also the lead author of the new Planet of the Apes novel (you can all call me Drew).
San Diego Comic-con is right around the corner, and BLAM! Ventures is going to be giving away and selling merchandise promoting the upcoming new illustrated novel, Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes!
For more info, please go to: www.blamventures.com/pota and click 'join' to get on our mailing list!
After you see what we are doing at the website, make sure you check back here later, as I am going to give the members of this group and others the chance to order the prints directly from BLAM! BEFORE they show up at the con!
This is a special offer I am making to the real fans - I myself have found it difficult to get exclusives for the things I love in the past, and wanted to make it a little easier for you true believers.
So, if you are NOT going to San Diego Comic Con, or just want to be sure to own the ALPHA and OMEGA prints, the VERY limited trading card set, and the replica of Landon's Dog tags, without the hassle of making sure you get to our table first each day, I am offering you the chance to get them here first!
Please hit me back to let me know if you are interested, and later tonight I will set up a payment method for you all. Items will ship by August first, as BLAM! will be dealing with the convention and its aftermath until then. These sets are VERY limited, so the sooner you order, the better, as we expect to completely sell out during the convention.
Let me know... <.html

I take it everyone else has noticed the changing faces of Roddy when it comes to his Cornelius/Caesar/Galen prosthetics. Does anyone know the history behind this? The Escape and Conquest faces look basically the same except that Caesar's face looks a little darker with slightly deeper lines. The Battle make-up looks cheaper somehow and the Galen make-up even more so. The TV series prosthetics in general do not look as good as most of the movies.(Don't get me wrong, I love the TV show as well). <.html

.html Ain't it amazing how quickly a good situation can reverse itself?
Despite my earlier announcement that I'd be at SDCC...I won't be. Much to my frustration, an unforeseen health issue has prevented me from being able to fly (or stand for extended periods of time) for the immediate future, thus making it impossible for me to get to San Diego or man the BLAM! Ventures booth.
I'm very bummed about this, as I've recently joined the BLAM! team in an official capacity--I'll be editing Conspiracy on the Planet of the Apes--and was very much looking forward to being there to see the project's unveiling.
To those attending, I hope you all have a wonderful time--I wish I could be there to meet you. To those not attending, who joked about my snagging dogtags and other goodies for them...sorry, folks! And to Drew--break a leg in San Diego, man...just not mine, as I've already got a leg issue to deal with at the moment. :) <.html

work of the DP, Leon Shamroy. The ape makeup is just as well done in
BENEATH, but the lighting is brighter (which helps explain why BENEATH
looks "better" on DVD) and the filming was more rushed. The makeup got
cheapened starting with ESCAPE, where less care was taken in the
different color shadings on the appliences and the wigs were less
expensive. This got worse with the last two films. The makeup was
actually rather well-done in the series, but more often than not,
actors didn't wear appliences sculpted from molds of their faces, but
instead wore "stock" appliences made from molds left over from the film
series and hence chin pieces didn't fit right and such, and often the
lighting or camera angle wasn't the best.

Hello All,
I take it everyone else has noticed the changing faces of Roddy when it
comes to his Cornelius/Caesar/Galen prosthetics. Does anyone know the
history behind this? The Escape and Conquest faces look basically the
same except that Caesar's face looks a little darker with slightly
deeper=2
0lines. The Battle make-up looks cheaper somehow and the Galen
make-up even more so. The TV series prosthetics in general do not look
as good as most of the movies.(Don't get me wrong, I love the TV show
as well). <.html

Hi Drew!
OMG, POTA is in the hands of people who put the fans first! Either I'm dreaming or something wonderful just happened and that bright light in the sky isn't Bellatrix.
I wish you every success with the novel and any future projects. The road to the POTA is paved with far too many projects that have been abandoned or cancelled prematurely. If there's anything we can do to help make sure this isn't one of them you only have to ask.

I first saw Ken's URSUS painting at Wonderfest in Louisville in May.
I bought a miniature version of the painting then, but after seeing it
for two months, I decided I had to buy the poster-size print. Just a
great painting, as all of Ken's paintings are.

By the way, have you ever noticed that Cornelius' hair style changes in
ESCAPE? Just before they're about to go before the commission check
out the back of McDowall's head. He's got the short, wavy hair of the
original, then later he's got the longer "Zira" curl -- which is all
wrong, in my opinion.

He did the original screen tests with chuck, he was also to play Zaius in the original film.
But due to the long hours in the masks he ended up turning the offer down.

.html Hello again!
Im reposting this to get it on the front page again! Many of you have taken advantage of this offer, and many of you still have not! Michael, Neil, and Hunter, as well as others, have already gotten their orders in, and to all of you who have ordered, THANK YOU! Remember: Supplies are limited, and by Wednesday night I will probably have to pull this offer...
We are offering you guys the chance to get the entire BLAM! COPOTA package:
1 Limited Replica Edition of Landon's Dog Tags
1 Limited Bio Trading Card Set featuring art by Matt Busch and teaser info about
the novel. The first 5 released cards are included here, as the rest aren't going to be made available until later in the year. Eventually there will be 9 in total for this book (and we will offer you the other four later when we produce them for future conventions)!
1 13"x19" Glossy cardstock print entitled "ALPHA" by artist Joe Jusko
1 13"x19" Glossy cardstock print entitled "OMEGA" by artist Sanjulian
Both prints are limited to 500 each and are numbered! I am reserving low numbers for the fan groups - again, first come first serve!
We are offering all this together as a package deal for $52, WORLDWIDE SHIPPING INCLUDED!
Again this offer is only valid to members of the POTA message boards and fan clubs.
If you are interested, please PAYPAL $52 USD to woldugger@.... That's
woldugger at aol.com. PAYPAL hasn't finished confirming our business checking account, but my woldugger@... account has been an active verified premiere member for years.
Mark the payment as goods, and put in the subject title "COPOTA SDCC FAN GROUP DEAL". Make sure to include a valid address for us to ship these items out to you!
In summation:

if you don't have an account, open one -its easy and free!

I never lose enthusiasm - Ape Chronicles is just a
passion of mine
I feel like i've been doing it forever (i sort of
have haha)
yes i just break even but of course don't get paid
anything for my time and the many hours put into each issue
but its always enjoyable
and each issue gets better
The new issues are hopefully going to be the best
POTA fanzines ever made
I wanted to boost the page count way up as I am now
marketing the fanzines more like books
Fancy covers, fancy print, 100 page
count
I'm proud of how the latest issues look better than
anything done before
and I appreciate the support from everyone who
checks them out
Living in Canada we do not have media
mail
but it works out basically like this
it costs $7.00 to print one copy and about $3.00 to
ship it
so charging $9.99 is about breaking even so thats
fine
Thanks to everyone for recent contributions and issue #47 will be done end
of July

That's the quickest way to kill off your enthusiasm for it Terry.
You need to figure out a way to at least break even. Drop the page
count, charge for shipping and send it Media Mail, etc.

The original prosthetics appears to have a shorter face vertically, a slightly longer muzzle horizontally, and the nose is a bit different. What's up with not blackening the nostrils? In some shots he basically looks as if he can't breath out of his nose due to the lack of nostrils.
Sorry, still like the Escape/Conquest make-up better.

.htmlI always thought that Roddy's make-up in Conquest was darker than in previous films. Sort of like he had a tan.
One thing that always struck me was how less flexible the make-ups were in the sequels than they were in Planet. And it seemed to get worse with each film. By Battle Roddy's muzzle was so stiff it looked more like a walnut shell to me. And what was up with that stuffed up nostril in Conquest?

I've been going to Comic Con on and off for over 30 years and last year I
chose to dress up for the first time. Being it was POTA's 40th I decided to go
as an ape 2 days. Marcus one day, Julius the next. I wasn't going to dress up
this year, but after seeing Jess in costume at WonderCon and BayCon and hearing
PotaFan was coming to Comic Con in costume, I decided to do it again. I don't
like to repeat my make ups and costumes (even at my Haunted House), but my son
brought up a good point. He said that people like to see costumes they're
familair and comfortable with. Comic Con has Elvis Stormtrooper, Joker and
Harley, etc... Being a "regular" keeps your character in people's minds and
introduces new people to these characters. Not only do you represent, you
refamiliarize and , maybe, re energize the "franchise." So this year I WILL be
Julius and keep POTA in the minds of the Past, Present, and FUTURE fans.

I don't recall EVER seeing this much

you can read much of it online through google
books
you can also find copies through ebay
the book is not likely going to turn up used in a
local bookstore
I have had lots of copies which I sold directly for
the author
but i have none left
if it would help you out i could order you a copy
online
and you can just send cash/check in the mail for
it

Please remind Hot Toys that you await the coming of more of their apes. I think Zira, Cornelius and Julius would be the hottest sellers. If they do a TV ape, they should do Galen.

I will just be the happiest of all chimpanzees if Hot Toys will announce the coming of more apes. If they can create a Dr. Zaius with his full Forbidden Zone outfit bearing all the delicious hieroglyphs, well, that will just be so fantastic. They may as well, since their spectacular General Ursus needs him to ride into the Forbidden Zone.
