I remember Roddy said the makeup was the
same. It was the performances that were different. We like ourselves, don't we
Roddy?

I also like the way he looks better in Escape. In Conquest his make up is
different of course because he plays a different character so the widows peak
is much higher on Ceasar and the darker makeup is applied,I also love the way
he looks in this film as well.In Beneath as I am sure you are aware it is not
Roddy, but looks damn close. My least fav is the way Roddy looks in
Battle.Something is off from his Ceasar look, maybe the nose.Everyone has their
favorite look, and nothing will ever look as great as the Apes in the Original
5 films. It is just a shame that the film industry thinks they have to change
the look for remakes they make. The look is what makes them so original,
changing it is just not Planet of the Apes anymore to me. --- In pota@yahoogroups. com, David

.htmlTim,
I absolutely agree with everything you said.
In Battle it is about the nose.
Watson's makeup in Beneath is really good as well.
Your best comment is about the "look" of the Apes movies and how it should be maintained. The look is original and we should all campaign for it with this new Caesar movie being rumored.

Tim,
I absolutely agree with everything you said.
In Battle it is about the nose.
Watson's makeup in Beneath is really good as well.
Your best comment is about the "look" of the Apes movies and how it should be maintained. The look is original and we should all campaign for it with this new Caesar movie being rumored.

In Conquest his make up is different of course because he plays a different character so the widows peak is much higher on Ceasar and the darker makeup is applied,I also love the way he looks in this film as well.In Beneath as I am sure you are aware it is not Roddy, but looks damn close. My least fav is the way Roddy looks in Battle.Something is off from his Ceasar look, maybe the nose.Everyone has their favorite look, and nothing will ever look as great as the Apes in the Original 5 films. It is just a shame that the film industry thinks they have to change the look for remakes they make. The look is what makes them so original, changing it is just not Planet of the Apes anymore to me.

Thank you for all your orders!
Just a comment for those who emailed me about ordering multiples, and those who have yet to place an order:
I am extended this offer to you guys through Thursday night, please order as soon as you can and as many as you want, I would rather the fan groups have these then someone who is going to just put them up on ebay for a ton of cash and you have to pay out more for them.

1 Limited Replica Edition of Landon's Dog Tags
1 Limited Bio Trading Card Set featuring art by Matt Busch and teaser info about the novel. The first 5 released cards are included here, as the rest aren't going to be made available until later in the year. Eventually there will be 9 in total for this book (and we will offer you the other four later when we produce them for future conventions) !
1 13"x19" Glossy cardstock print entitled "ALPHA" by artist Joe Jusko
1 13"x19" Glossy cardstock print entitled "OMEGA" by artist Sanjulian
Both prints are limited to 500 each and are numbered! I am reserving low numbers for the fan groups - again, first come first serve!

Did anyone catch what that guy in the video said about the person who was
opening a chain of restaurants buying props from Fox? There was a rumor that
Taylor's spaceship eventually ended up on top of a restaurant that subsequently
burned down, but there's never been proof either way as far as I know.
I would STILL love to know where the Doomsday Bomb ended up after it left
that one storage lot, although from the pictures on the one website showing the
lot it was obvious that someone had taken the fins.

movies, and television were concerned. All the 90's gave us was grunge and whiny

and good friends too. ahemmm. my band my girls my hair my bass. and everything that came along with it. except that one girl with the std.dont miss her and if shes still alive she owes me for the visit.
all threw that my ape collection grew massivly in the 80's i met roddy
i met ron harper and i met my future wife. so thats what the 90's were for me. and gentlemen the problem with fox is that the piracy rate is crippling the industry not to mention that theres a huge change going on as gene simmons from kiss put it. why make an album or do anything in hollywood when after the first day of a movie opening you can find a ripp of it on the internet. so that coupled with a lack of talented writers and no interest in spending millions on science fiction rewrites and sequels ussually attract hard core fan bases who will see it alot faster then someone whos never been a fan. <.html

Every decade I lived through (60's-now) had its good and bad points.
I think if we concentrate on what happened to us INDIVIDUALLY that was great in
each decade we would appreciate them more instead of thinking of them in terms
of "the premiere of LIS" or "Babylon 5."

I spy with my little eye...
On the table: The two prints we know about, the dog tags and the trading cards. There also seems to be a third print - a larger version of which can be seen on the wall, far right. Looks to me like Landon saying 'howdy' to the locals - very Pierre Boulle!
Also on the table, right hand corner of the pic is what I thought at first to be the movie poster for the Nic Cage film 'Knowing' but it ain't.
09-13-09?
Is that the Icarus/Liberty approaching Earth?
On the wall, left to right is the art for the Stewart card, some pencil roughs? Another image of Apes on horseback against the sun and above that there's some kind of long strip of art I can't make out.
Come on guys... move the camera a little will ya!

.htmlIn my opinion, the whole canon concept has made fandom a lot less enjoyable than it used to be. Years ago, we enjoyed stories, or we didn't. Now, all anyone can talk about anymore is whether or not a particular story is canon. Personally, I couldn't care less if any of it is canon or non-canon, since it's all fiction and didn't happen. If I like it, then it's good. If not, then I don't bother re-reading or re-watching it. This is particularly true for Planet of the Apes, which has no overseer deeming anything canon or non-canon--and I'm very grateful for that, as that sort of thing has soured so many other franchises for me.

Canon just gives a baseline or foundation for others to build upon. When there is an interesting topic for discussion about the films, I find it less enjoyable when it is shut down before anyone else has a chance to comment by citing an old comic story as if that should be the last word on the subject.
I'm sure that the people who created the Malibu comics never considered themselves constrained by what Marvel had done. Nor was MR constrained by anything Malibu or Marvel had done before them. I would also bet that if you asked Ty Templeton or Joe O'Brien, they would be the first to admit that what they did in Revolution is not canon and no one else, like Blam! Ventures, should have to alter their interpretation and creative process to conform to what they did in Revolution.
One of the problems with a decades old franchise that has had multiple licensees over the years is that there is too many contradictions and conflicts. Recognizing canon just gives everyone an agreed upon starting point and we can can go from there. Marvel's Quest for the POTA and MR's Revolution present two conflicting versions of the events between Conquest and Battle. Rather than have one faction declare that because Quest came first Revolution should be ignored and another faction taking the opposite, recognizing that neither are canon leave room for both interpretations and any future interpretations that might make a great story (or interesting discussion) for fans to enjoy. By stating that since someone already addressed a particular topic or issue so that's the final word on it and any future exploration of it is invalid just stifles creativity.

I’ve been in touch with Missy Davy,
who is Scott Frank’s Personal Assistant.
Her attitude was originally quite
friendly, and she’s still friendly but not at all informative.
She was the person who put me straight
about Scott being the writer, not the director (and all the articles were
dubbing him as director so that tells you haw accurate the press is).
I sent a string of interview questions for
“The Forbidden Zine” and she referred me to a fellow at FOX.
The fellow at FOX emailed me back and said
“no progress, nothing to report, could you please send your phone number
so I can update you”….so I did.
Rory – how can it be in development
hell? It’s only at the writing stage – there’s no
actors chosen, no director…..nothing (and this WAS confirmed by Missy
ages ago).
It’s waiting to be scripted –
end of story.

Good question.
I am excited because Fox has employed a
writer of intelligent sci-fi. To me this means they understood this is a
necessary starting point.
How can that NOT be exciting to any fair
dinkum POTA fan?
How many times can you watch the same
film?
I’m excited because the film series
I love is flawed by ridiculous plot holes by sloppy makers – it’s
the OPPOSITE to INTELLIGENT sci-fi. And I think someone with a proper
vision could tell a far better story – and a sequence of stories, without
actually REAMKING anything.
I’m excited because they are
starting with the ape revolution, or at least with the beginnings of it, and it
they make it so this movie is a PREQUEL to PLANET, with none of the
ridiculousness of CONQUEST where we are supposed to believe the apes are
telepathic, and have evolved almost overnight from that stupid gorilla who
killed Milo to intelligent servants. Maybe Scott Frank has a FAR better
way to explain it – I think my 7 year old twins probably would!
And if Mr Frank does it right, and has
this as the ORIGINAL revolution (pre planet, on a timeline that does not repeat
ad infinitum), then it’s even better because Rory can still watch Planet
and we’ll just have a prequel to it that lends itself to quite a few more
prequels.
This can be done.

What worries me is that I offered to send
a copy of Rich’s book to Scott Frank and I was politely asked not to.
That REALLY bothers me because it makes me
wonder how much research he is putting into the original franchise and how much
respect he intends to give to it.
It also means that he’s not looking to the
hardcore fans who have been discussing and researching and fighting (in the
name of the bomb!) over points for years.
If it does not relate to POTA – then call
it Lancelot Link.
But anyway, in light of my recent
conversations with stakeholders, it is seeming most likely that this project is
on hold.

Folks, I TRULY believe that there is something about apes that will always set it apart from other stories. Apes appears (like Trek and Star Wars-yep even Batman) to die out with everything but their hardcore fan bases-may last for 10-15 years-but it seems to come back. As an ape fanatic-I know how much I love the series. The more people we involve in our "Fun" and passion-the more we'll get to realize just how special it is. We all know that there are millions of Apes fans out there. If we keep the passion alive and keep asking for apes products and stories and keep on keeping the mythology...and don't kid yourselves..It is Mythology at this point-someone will get wise that there is a place for intelligent (and fun) science fiction and social commentary and finally make a new movie that honors the original films. We just have to keep on keeping on with sharing our passion with others. There is something-pardon the pun-primal and very
resonant deep within about this world-so I don't think it will ever truly "die" out and especially not with the money that was made on the last one. Heck, It's Linda "Nova" Harrison's birthday today and it's in the stars- Apes will Never Die because the Apes are Us.:)

After a long day on Thursday that became a long night
for most of us, we returned somewhat rested and ready to go back to the
floor.
Things started a little early when the con organizers decided to let everyone
in 15 minutes before scheduled. We had to get the booth up and running while
helping con-goers looking for the free replicas of Landon's dog tags and
today's free Matt Busch card (Ursus for the curious).
Speaking of the dog tags, I'm told a set has already gone up on eBay, selling
for $18.00. They could've at least waited until after the con, maybe they
would've gotten a better price.
Joe Jusko was onboard to sign his print "Alpha" again, and the
legendary Sanjulian stopped by to sign his print "Omega." Both will
be back on Saturday and Sunday, Jusko from 1-2 pm and Sanjulian from 3-4pm.
Stop by and pick up a set and get them signed and personalized by the
artists. Here are the prints on display:

Some more pictures of the booth, and a hint of some of the other art we got
coming.

starting with the ape revolution, or at least with the beginnings of
it, and it
they make it so this movie is a PREQUEL to PLANET, with none of the
ridiculousness of CONQUEST where we are supposed to believe the apes are
telepathic, and have evolved almost overnight from that stupid gorilla
who
killed Milo to intelligent servants. Maybe Scott Frank has
a FAR better
way to explain it – I think my 7 year old twins probably would!
And if Mr Frank does it right, and has
this as the ORIGINAL revolution (pre planet, on a timeline that does
not repeat
ad infinitum), then it's even better because Rory can still watch Planet
and we'll just have a prequel to it that lends itself to quite a few
more
prequels.
This can be done.

I've been in touch with Missy Davy,
who is Scott Frank's Personal Assistant.
Her attitude was originally quite
friendly, and she's still friendly but not at all informative.
She was the person who put me straight
about Scott being the writer, not the director (and all the articles
were
dubbing him as director so that tells you haw accurate the press is).
I sent a string of interview questions for
"The Forbidden Zine" and she referred me to a fellow at FOX.
The fellow at FOX emailed me back and said
"no progress, nothing to report, could you please send your phone number
so I can update you"….so I did.
Rory – how can it be in development
hell? It's only at the writing stage – there's no
actors chosen, no director…..nothing (and this WAS confirmed by Missy
ages ago).
It's waiting to be scripted –
end of story.

Plagiarism? Of what?
Rich’s book outlines the events of
the various POTA universes (movies, TV, toons, comics, novels, scripts) in a
sequential order.
It concludes nothing that’s not been
in the films, TV show etc which are all essential background reading (or if
they are not, then this is not a POTA movie and may as well be called “Lancelot
Link” instead of CAESAR).
What you say makes sense if Rich’s
book were a script but it almost seems Scott Frank wants to start from scratch
with no knowledge of POTA and that’s just silly.
Even if he wants to change it he needs to
research and understand it – embrace it - before doing so.

I can see why he would not want the book, if anything
is in the film that ties with the book then he opens himself up to plagiarism ,
and the lawsuits to follow.
Best to keep it is own original idea dont you think????

Folks, I TRULY believe that there is something about apes that will
always set it apart from other stories. Apes appears (like Trek and
Star Wars-yep even Batman) to die out with everything but their
hardcore fan bases-may last for 10-15 years-but it seems to come back.
As an ape fanatic-I know how much I love the series. The more people we
involve in our "Fun" and passion-the more we'll get to realize just how
special it is. We all know that there are millions of Apes fans out
there. If we keep the passion alive and keep asking for apes products
and stories and keep on keeping the mythology...and don't kid
yourselves..It is Mythology at this point-someone will get wise that
there is a place for intellig
ent (and fun) science fiction and social
commentary and finally make a new movie that honors the original films.
We just have to keep on keeping on with sharing our passion with
others. There is something-pardon the pun-primal and very resonant deep
within about this world-so I don't think it will ever truly "die" out
and especially not with the money that was made on the last one. Heck,
It's Linda "Nova" Harrison's birthday today and it's in the stars- Apes
will Never Die because the Apes are Us.:)

I am excited because Fox has employed a writer of intelligent sci-fi. To me this means they understood this is a necessary starting point.
How can that NOT be exciting to any fair dinkum POTA fan?
How many times can you watch the same film?
I'm excited because the film series I love is flawed by ridiculous plot holes by sloppy makers – it's the OPPOSITE to INTELLIGENT sci-fi. And I think someone with a proper vision could tell a far better story – and a sequence of stories, without actually REAMKING anything.
I'm excited because they are starting with the ape revolution, or at least with the beginnings of it, and it they make it so this movie is a PREQUEL to PLANET, with none of the ridiculousness of CONQUEST where we are supposed to believe the apes are telepathic, and have evolved almost overnight from that stupid gorilla who killed Milo to intelligent servants. I remember once reading somewhere that in the original they could have gone the cheap route and had the apes screeching and bearing their teeth to scare everyone. I always found it ironic that the first shot of an ape in Burton's film it is screehing and bearing its teeth.

However, they don't own the rights to A.I. which according to what's been written about the APES film seems to have one element of that too. So in the end we might get a slight rights issue, or illegal misdemeanor.
Which might add up to a bastard moron.

The other POTA flicks, being distincly inferior IMHO in most qualities, are enlightening only to the extent that they don't conflict with the stunning original. POTA1 even surpasses the novel in quality, so I keep returning to it as the closest thing to the real thing. And yes, I know it's not real. Thanks for indulging this.

On my way home, but I have to say my first San Diego
Comic Con treated me well. I'm not quite done with the reporting, after doing
a little recovering on Sunday morning I have a few more Conspiracy related
posts and one or two SDCC entries to make, too.
Co-writer and BLAM! Ventures creative director Drew Gaska will be signing on
later in the week to give his take on SDCC and the future.
My flight awaits, good night San Diego, good night my fellow conspirators.

.html James, that "My Name Is Urko" image is hilarious. I'm a die-hard "My Name Is Earl" fan, so I burst out laughing upon seeing that. Bravo!
(I find it particularly hilarious that Urko also has a brother named Randy.) <.html

Yes that's Kevin. No it's not Jess,
it's Lacey, me, and Lexi (as Nova). Funny though, someone stopped
Lacey and asked her if she was Jess. I didn't see his name.
