.html.html John... I really am not sure what you are talking about. I certainly wasn't arguing with anyone...I was just saying that the German cards and the French cards used the same photo...that's all......I was not disagreeing with you or denying that your card was German. No arguments from me at all.....!

were arguing about the german lobby cards and i went to ebay and they have 8 conquest cards which is about one third of what was available. my point being that im looking at the ebay cards and only one is the same as my german cards and i have about 39 of them. mine were aquired in 1974 so their must of been a lot of reprints and who knows whatever variations of the first german set. lets not quivil over this stuff. all im saying is when it comes to foreing cards their are many variations of the usa[official] photos[you notice that most cards are about 1 to 60 seconds later in pose of the american] the usa took all the photos and gave variations to other nations so they can tell them apart from one another. in other words a german did not take a german card and so on..john m

I like moviestore.com. It's a reasonable price. They have a great selection of photos with multiple sizes to choose from. And that kodak/fuji photographic paper is a real deal for the price. Definitely going to order a few more.
Thanks again.

That's cool.
The photo poster I got was Taylor and Nova on the beach (Statue of Libery
Scene), the rare angle shot of Taylor, Nova and the horse.
They did a really decent job with it and printed it on really thick kodak
paper. Quite literately a photograph poster. Not that cheap
thin poster paper.
I love it!

Filing a report of the POTA screening I saw yesterday on the big screen in Durham, NC! Excellent print and decent sound! Only about 30 people in attendance on a dreary afternoon....the 2nd of three showings over the weekend. there would have been one more but poor Rory had car troubles and couldn't make it! It was part of an "Escapism Film Festival". A very quiet crowd....only laughs came at Chuck's "serious" monologues....("I feel...lonely...") and the hear no evil, see no evil bit.
as always when I see it on the screen i notice a few things I've never noticed before......one is behind Taylor at the beginning when he is recording his log, there is what looks like a reel to reel tap spinning....wonder if that is supposed to be recording him or was it just put in to look
"technical"
and I know we have discussed this before but I really think they may have put a gorilla mask on the female at the funeral. she's wearing green yet with a plum tunic but she really looked like a gorilla to me....
and one continuity problem.....when Taylor is brought into the hearing, he should be soaked from the water hose but he is dry.....
am including pics of what I noticed and a collage of the ticket stub, brochure and "marquee"

It could be BATTLE, but it sure does look like ocean in the background.
If so, it might be a behind-the-scenes thing from the TV show, but I
wonder if we'll ever know for sure. It's another POTA mystery!
In any event, it ain't from ESCAPE and they should have picked

Probably put into look technical. I always rationalized the tape reel as the automation program that ran the ship while the astronauts were in hibernation.

Not sure about that. The nose looks too small. But I could be mistaken.
> and one continuity problem.....when Taylor is brought into the hearing, he should be soaked from the water hose but he is dry.....
Maybe not. The human or animal compound was supposed to be across the causeway from Ape City (at least in the original script) so its possible that Taylor had time to dry out.

| Subject: Re: ESCAPE CD - thoughts |
.htmlHaving listened to the ESCAPE soundtrack a few times I've found the following:
3. THE GORILLA ATTACK – is an unused cue - as is most of "I LIKE YOU", which actually ends with a cue used in the film as a broadcast news fade-out.
In selection 6, A LITTLE HISTORY, we are given yet another unused cue. Was this intended to be played during first inquisition when Cornelius tells of how apes came into power?
The next cue, 7, INTERROGATION, is either an alternate cue or missing musical effects heard in the film which counter point "flashes" of scenes from PLANET. It is possible that these effects were actually soundeffects, but Goldsmith merged the two extremely well and usually offered them as part of the music. He was a master of matching/timing his music with the visual.
The latter part of cue 10, THE LABOR CONTINUES, has noticeable damage, a warble that is not present in the film.
The last cue, 14, THE FINAL CHAPER AND END CREDITS begins latter than what is heard in the film. Missing is the cue that accompanies "Stevie's" car as it careens onto the dock, as view as seen by Zira who exclaims; "Stevie!"
Aside from the one damaged cue I don't understand why FOX would yet again do a "fake" 5.1 music track for the DVD/Blu-ray?!
After listening to the CD I went back to the Blu-ray and turned to the Isolated Score and found it did contain the GORRILLA ATTACK cue – BUT ONLY ON THE ISOLATED TRACK. This was also done with past laser releases of THE OMEN and ALIEN.
Then again why wasn't this also covered in the accompanied CD booklet? The person chosen to write the liner notes is too caught up in presenting her own opinions rather historical info. I was more impressed by the quality of the color pictures in the booklet – although the choice of photos is common they appear to come from oversized transparencies, and not the usual 2x2 slides.
In the end the score is still tops capturing a great deal of emotion, pathos, and tragedy.
Modern film composers really need to study these older scores and learn how to support the celluloid visual.

.htmlI cut out the hieroglyph in leather--it's two layers thick, or actually 3 after I glued down the brown leather on top. Sprayed it down with 3M adhesive. Worked the brown leather on top, especially into the crevices with a butterknife...made sure I had enough of the brown leather to cover the edges of the hieroglyph, and sprayed that down with more 3M and slapped it on the back of the glove.
Cutting out the hieroglyph took longer than you would think it would take. And you have to make two that match. Apemania sells the gloves, too. It costs $175 before s/h.

Well, if you can remember what day of the week you saw it on, and if
you saw it pretty close to when it opened -- AND, if you can remember
what theatre it was -- all you need to do is get to a library that has
the paper -- in your case, The New York Times or some Brooklyn thing (I
don't know) -- and just find when the movie was playing there. If it
was on a double bill with "One Million Years, B.C." it shouldn't be too
hard. There was a time when I wasn't sure the exact date, but I did
this and figured it out (around 1978 at a library in Levittown, NY).
Now, I remember that I saw PLANET the 2nd time on June 29th, 1968
because I remember that it was a Saturday and that my father was
watching ABC's Wide, Wide World of Sports before he took me to it. I
remembered what was on the show, looked up the TV listing in the paper
from the time, and that confirmed it. I also discovered that a number
of theatres and drive-in at that time (the last week in June, 1968) on
Long Island had double-features of PLANET and ONE MILLION. This may
have also been true of Brooklyn.

.htmlWell I know it was at the Walker Theater in Brooklyn. June 1968 sounds like the right time of year and I seem to think it was a Friday night. That's about it.
One thing I do remember which is a bit of a non-sequitar was that it was supposed to be the last attraction at the Walker before the theater closed (it had not been doing so for several years) so for the last week the Walker lowered ticket prices to $1 for adults and $0.50 for children. But because they did so well with the lower ticket prices the theater stayed open and kept the lower prices until the theater was refurbished in 1970.

This post has me confused. I copied all the cues off the ESCAPE
Blu-ray and made a CD and it's all on the Varese Sarabande CD, though
not in the same order.
I haven't explored all of CONQUEST, so I don't know what you talking
about.
In the case of BENEATH, there's actually more on the CD than you'll
hear on the Blu-ray's isolated score, and many times when you should be
hearing the score (albit re-edited) you hear nothing.
In the case of PLANET... they most certainly do have all the cues in
stereo -- they're no the CD! Why that Blu-ray doesn't have an isolated
score I don't understand, except that maybe -- because the PLANET
Blu-ray was prepared first, then, I'm told, at the last moment Fox
decided they should release the entire series at once -- Fox thought
the PLANET Blu-ray had enough extras and the master Blu-ray was done,
but with the sequels they thought they needed more to sell them?

the reason planet of the apes did not have an isolated track is because the sound is awful, thats it! the cd is good enough. by the way they started using the cd soundtrack for the movie back a few years ago in hope that no one would notice. its nowhere near as dynamic as the original tracks even the crappy ones on the old video tapes.ex..when taylor looks at the time meter before abandoning ship you now hear a loud brass impact that was never their since 1968 to about2000, it only appears on the cd soundtrack, and so many other places.in other words they used the cd master for the music and not well either, why all the crackling distortion and audio levels all over the place. it justs bothers me that other than scott and jeff and a few others its never discussed and this is a classic.foxs films from the 40s and 50s sound better, and stop the stereo crap, if its not in stereo dont make it so.

Well, I'm with you. For me, "Planet of the Apes" is the 1968 movie and
it all starts there (the original novel is on a different plain). I
mostly care about how good the movie looks and sounds, which is why I
get most excited when some better presentation is coming along
(letterboxed transfers, then DVD, then Blu-ray), or when I hear that
the original film elements are being restored and some such.
I still think the movie can look and sound better than it does on
Blu-ray, but when we'll get it, or if it'll have to wait for yet
another media format only the Lawgiver knows.

So, Bart Pierce told you the original stereo tracks for PLANET are in
the Kansas salt mine? This wouldn't surprise me. I've always
suspected that the so-called "Lost" stereo tracks weren't really lost,
just so boxed away someplace that no one knows where the box is.
(Because PLANET was at first going to be released in stereo, but at the
last minute Fox got cheap -- because DOLITTLE was doing little -- and
just opted for mono.) I'm sure the attitude that it would cost too
much to properly retrive them is the real truth. But what is Fox
waiting for?!! The 50th anniversary? The 100th?!!! How long will the
elements last, salt mine or no salt mine?
How much time has the world got? Somebody has to begin to care.
What I'm really most upset about with the Blu-ray (other than no
isolated score with commentary) is that they didn't give us the option
of the previous Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack from the 35th anniversary
DVD. I think the fedelity of the DTS HD soundtrack on the Blu-ray is
better, but the 5.1 stereo surround remix is a bad joke.

.htmlOh, you poor humans who weren't around back when these films originally
came out, back when there was only PLANET, then when there was BENEATH
and you thought that was it, then the surprise that there'd be an
ESCAPE! Back when these films could only be seen in theatres and you
never knew when you'd see them again, and how fantastic it was when you
were finally going to see them again. I really miss those days.

I would too Jess! I've been lucky enough to have seen Planet on screen
four times in the last couple of years...(if you count the TWO showings
in New York that we sat through),.....but the others I only have seen
at the Go APe festival so many years ago.....except Beneath which I saw
twice at a kid's early summer matinee when I was little........it was
odd cause all the other movies of the summer were "Raggedy Ann" or
"Pippi Longstalking" or some other silly thing.....yet there was
Beneath showing...mutants, end of the world and all.....!

How I would LOVE to see Escape on the big screen! I have only seen the
original movie on the big screen twice in my lifetime.

People have every right to do what they want, but it always pisses me
off when I see somebody selling off personal letters like this....
And no, I can't believe it's been 11 years. Or 16 years tomorrow
since Vincent Price died....

Dude, from the time (1991) Fox released that disaster of an original
PLANET letterboxed laserdisc (with the "Chase Stereo Surround") --
before that PLANET always had mono sound with "alot" of hiss -- I was
writing a letter A MONTH to Fox begging them to find PLANET's original
stereo tracks. When I read the happy news that Varese Sarabande was
releasing the entire score on CD (that would be 1997) I thought,
"Fantastic, at least now they can reconstruct it." And they did --
that's what we have in the 5.1 sound on the 35th Anniversary DVD. It's
not the best it can be, but it's better than nothing.
Now, can either you or Scott answer me this: Why does the cue "The
Seachers" sound so different on the DVD and Blu-ray than it does on the
Varese CD? And have either of you noticed how "The Hunt" cue on the
DTS HD Blu-ray track doesn't seem properly mixed?

the reason planet of the apes did not have an isolated track is because
the sound is awful, thats it! the cd is good enough. by the way they
started using the cd soundtrack for the movie back a few years ago in
hope that no one would notice. its nowhere near as dynamic as the
original tracks even the crappy ones on the old video tapes.ex..when
taylor looks at the time meter before abandoning ship you now hear a
loud brass impact that was never their since 1968 to about2000, it only
appears on the cd soundtrack, and so many other places.in other words
they used the cd master for the music and not well either, why all the
crackling distortion and audio levels all over the place. it justs
bothers me that other than scott and jeff and a few others its never
discussed and this is a classic.foxs films from the 40s and 50s sound
better, and stop the stereo crap, if its not in stereo dont make it so.

video release and i guess never will. the sound on the blu-ray for
planet of the apes, is bad. like i said many times before when hbo and
cinemax played the films in the early 90s they sounded wonderfull[full,
dynamic , mono, some stereo] the way i remember them. i like most of you
recorded them from tv in the early 70s and at drive-ins[i hard wired it
into a great reel to reel sony deck]. planets tracks are several
generations down from those original days.even bart pierce admitted
they made a lame attempt and that rca studios and some salt mines in
kansas[his words not mine]had great stereo tracks of planet but it
would cost to much.hbo and cinemax did their own mastering at that time
but they did right. i sent another post talking about the same thing so
ill stop.planets sound is shamefull in every way .

.htmlto me the original soundtrack of the searchers on the film[tape and first dvd is the right one even though it sounds like garbage].then someone though that the the cd soundtrack can be used because it sounds better but they did not relize that album soundtracks are always made for the album[reverb and other effects are added for the buying public] and the movie soundtrack is made first to get it done for the music editor. the album/cd is recorded later and at a much less rushed atmosphere .foxcbs did the same thing for cabaret i think, the movie escapes me right now.they use the original dialog and sound effects but use the movie ie soundtrack album and mix it for stereo..ha.ha. like said what are they waiting for ,i know its got to be out their,to repeat myself cinemax had a wonderfull soundtrack back in 1991... im tired john m
