.htmli just don't understand why you would want an edited 2 hours of t.v.
episodes to get 90 minutes of a so called movie just so you can have
missing at least 20 minutes of television. something that was originaly
2 hours. its rediculous
. what are you going to do next combine the 3hour 20 MINUTES OF PLANET
AND BENEATH NEXT.--- we fought long and hard[ some of us to near
aproplexy ] toget missing footage of battle and conquest. this is a
major contradiction ..in logic...john m

Starlog had an article re the packaging of the Tele films. I don't remember the issue, I have it put away somewhere, but I thought it said it was a NY tv station that did the Galen footage. I believe it also gives the year...

Are we talking about DVD snapcase covers for the "TV Movies," or covers for the individual Blu-rays in those smaller blue cases?
I haven't worked on Blu-ray covers yet, because I lean toward just resizing the original 1-sheets for the covers and just sliding them in (also, I've only bought PLANET as an individual Blu-ray) and anyone can do this if you own a decent printer.
I hesitate to offer anything I can't just email you for you to print yourself, as I generally loath going to the post office. Some of you may have trouble getting things to print to the exact size though.

There's some great stuff there--I particularly like Rory's Beneath covers.
Thanks, and it's ironic considering BENEATH is the sequel that annoys me most. I also finally got around to making a cover for BATTLE, but then I moved and decided to just throw my VERY old computer out, so out went the BATTLE cover too! I guess I can scan it later so you can see it, but I really don't have it in me now to re-create it. It's hours in photoshop.
James has done a good job on the Blu-ray, but in order to get a really good cover, you need hi-res scans and you need to keep that hi-res right up until you're ready to print (I'm talking 300 dpi at least -- something that doesn't fit in emails to Yahoo groups). Someday I'll get around to doing a PLANET Blu-ray cover, front and back. I also want to do a booklet for the inside and I've been collecting the photos Bill has been posting for that, but it's SO MUCH WORK, and I'm not going to buy the individual sequel Blu-rays, so I don't plan anything there.

John,
I don't know how you're getting these messages, but I get them as individual posts just like regular emails. This is how you handle the "garbage": first try to gettle a handle on who it is that rarely has anything to say that you care to read; second, when you see their address as the one posting the message JUST HIT DELETE; third, if you instead choose to open their email and it bugs you, try with all your might NOT TO REPLY! Just say "NO!" (like the original Aldo) to replying. Few things on the planet die a faster death than an unreplied to email.
That's how YOU YOURSELF stop the garbage -- just don't get into it. Simple.
And if you think it's bad now?!!! This is nothing (really nothing). You should have been around years ago.

Somebody has to begin to care!
Happy Thanksgiving everybody.
Veetus, YOU need to stop caring. When YOU stop caring is when Fox will start moving. As long as YOU are caring, Fox will do nothing. Veetus, stop caring.

Hey don't ask me. I made a post about
how I get called names and those get
through, but a simple reply gets deleted,
and predicted that would be deleted, and
it was. Now I'm just trying to see what gets
though, and what doesn't. I can't compare
this to anything. I've never quite encountered
anything like it in the real world. It's a bit like
a rip in time. I'd explain why, but then it would
disappear. It defies all explination. It's fascinating.

I really feel the need to set the record straight here. But first I'd like to apologize to the group. I'd had tried to resolve this matter with T offline, but he persists in making this a public matter.
Anyway, only one post that T made was rejected. It was rejected because he attacked a third person who was not even involved in that discussion thread. He was asked to delete the attack which he did and the post was ultimately put through to the group. I've personally checked the group logs and they verify this.
The post he is referring to below was never received here so it could not have been deleted or rejected by the moderators . As far as posts calling him names getting through, any and all such posts attacking him in a manner that violates the group's guidelines have been rejected. Of course, only the moderators and the persons who submitted those posts would know that since they were rejected and not put through to the group.
Once again my apologies to everyone for not being able to resolve this matter offline.

Actually . . . He's right. My bad.
I don't spend a lot of time on emails
and this one was send directly to me.
I responded thinking it was through the
POTA group. When I didn't see the post
I thought it had been moderated out. That's
why I wondered about the mysterious missing
post. It never went to the group in the first place.
I'd post it, and the response, but as has been stated

Tvshowsondvd.com is reporting that one of their
sources pssst!ed them about the classic TV anthology series "Twilight Zone"
coming to blu-ray.
What does that have to do with POTA? Are you
stoopid? The man most associated with the show is host/creator Rod Serling, who
was a screenwriter on the original POTA, plus worked on early versions of
"Beneath" and the TV show. Some have sensed a certain similarity in tone between
the first POTA and T.Z. Plus there's Ape actors in it, including Roddy McDowall
in the very Apeish "People Are Alike All Over".
HD transfers of the show were made for the
standard DVD "Definitive Collection" (which I guess won't be so definitive now)
so it should look great. If it happens, this will make T.Z. the oldest TV show
on blu-ray.
The post also notes the anthology show
"Thriller" (hosted by Boris Karloff) will be coming to standard DVD. This rare
series included Natalie Trundy and Leslie Neilsen (who drove her to the studio
that week) in the first episode.

I recently saw TZ: THE MOVIE in HD on satellite. Looked great, but the movie isn't that great.
"Thriller!" coming to DVD is the bigger news for me. I haven't seen it in decades and I like Boris Karloff so much I wish he could have played an orangutan in PLANET (Wouldn't that have been great?), and many "Thriller!" episodes were scored by Jerry Goldsmith
Who is Jerry Goldsmith, you ask? Are you stoopid? (Wait a minute! I'm not Veetus!)

An interesting point is brought up in the
reply to that guy's question about McQueen.
"Besides, Cornelius was a devout pacifist who loathed using
guns."
That may be true, but he used them when he had to, albeit a bit late.
And he packed them, and asked for one when he didn't have one.
He said he was going to use it for suicide, but it was used to kill.
And he was a bit of a hypocrite when it came to dolling them out.
"Got any guns?" "The best! But we won't need them." "Glad
to
hear it. I want one anyway." The same can be said about
him.
He figured he wouldn't need any, but he brought some anyway.

It's been 8 1/2 years since we had a POTA
flick. Since then we've had:
6 "Harry Potter"s
5 - - I can't think of any
4 "Fast and Furious"es
3 "Lord of the Rings"
2 "Transformers"
And a partridge in a pear treeeee!
(Thanksgiving is over, it's Christmas time, Charlie Brown)
Can't we have one measly POTA? Is that 2,
*cough*, I mean, too much to ask?

There's a short interview with Nimrod Antal
about Fox's reboot of the "Predator" franchise.
As has been noted for a while, Fox seems to
be going "filmmaker friendly" with their sci-fi movies now, bringing back the
guys who made the earlier versions acclaimed and successful (Ridley Scott back
for the "Alien" prequel, David Cronenberg swatting "The Fly" again).
In the case of "Predator", the figure head is
an independent guy. Like his movies or not, Robert Rodriguez goes his own way,
making his movies away from the studio system. He's not directing the movie, but
the fact that they seem to be calling it "Robert Rodriguez's Predators" says
something that Fox wants to court the fans back (Rodriguez was offered POTA
before Burton did it but turned it down because he didn't like the heavy hand
the studio was applying).
So perhaps they will enlist a top filmmaker
for the new POTA and let them go for it. Or maybe that was the problem with Tim
Burton's POTA?
In any case, we'll see how Fox's current
approach pans out next summer when "Robert Rodriguez's Predators"
bows.

The original POTA was shot also entirely "in camera" and think just how unique and even innovative it would be if some filmmaker were able to do the same thing these days.
By the way, Veetus, what is with this obsession with what Fox is up to? Yeah, maybe they may make a new POTA (or at least POTA related) movie, but maybe they won't -- in fact, I'll bet they won't, but other than that I think Fox today is basically a bunch of D$$$$$BAGS! It just ain't the same ol' Fox.

Rodriguez also gave Ricardo Montalban his
last hurrah with the "Spy Kids" flicks.
Why do I talk about what Fox is up to?
Because, well, that's what we do here. We talk about POTA, and as Fox goes, so
does POTA.
But if you'd like I'll talk about
Dubai.

Even though I agree that AVATAR will be crap when looked at simply as a SF film -- just as I thought TITANIC was crap as a drama -- I still have the feeling this AVATAR thing will be a huge hit. It's going to be the best 3-D, thrill-ride movie ever made, and a lot of kids may end up going to it many times over.
BUT.... I could be wrong, and I really don't give a crap how well it does. Spending $400 Million on one movie is RETARDED and ol' JC has a plastic imagination, but Al thinks he's the greatest.

The "Avatar" cartoon is a great series.
Many of my favorite films are James Cameron movies (including
TITANIC), but I have to say the first trailer for "Avatar" left me
severely underwhelmed. The second was better, but still.... I will

How can you fine folks, science fiction fans,
talk that way about James Cameron, who sweated blood for almost 5 years to bring
you the next great science fiction movie? Shame on you! Mr. Cameron could have
taken his "Titanic" money and retired champion, the biggest hit, the most Oscars
ever.
But no! He rolled up his sleeves and went to
work for YOU. Yes, the blue people look weird, they look strange, but we tend to
be afraid of what we don't understand. I see the "avatars" as a metaphor for
scuba diving, Cameron's great love, and the weird creatures and locales are
obviously patterned on Earth's last frontier: the ocean. I had trouble with
the look at first too, but seen through the eyes of an enthusiastic diver,
the glittery creatures and the exotic designs work for me.
Cameron knows his science fiction and his
storytelling. He's a ripe target after "Titanic" but I don't care. I love his
flicks and this one is going to rock. I welcome him back to science fiction
after 18 years.

.htmlWell, that makes sense, because JC (THE BIG, jc, now, not that lesser being, Christ) will certainly be taking a dive on this crap fest. And Fox will also be taking a bath, leaving the prospects of any new, decent sci fi, such as Apes, looking bleak.I hate that so much is invested in resourses on projects like this---you could make ten good movies for the cost of this hyped up cartoon. I see the "avatars" as a metaphor for scuba diving, Cameron's great love, and the weird creatures and locales are obviously patterned on Earth's last frontier: the ocean. I had trouble with the look at first too, but seen through the eyes of an enthusiastic diver, the glittery creatures and the exotic designs work for me.

.htmlim sorry my friend jeff, but i tend to agree johnroch49. The point being that you and I know that everything will probably rest on camerons movie and thats not fair to the tens of other films that can be made, especially our dear apes film. Cameron is given to much leway simply because of titanic. when i come to think of hit personally i only like two of camerons films,Strange Days and Terminator (1984). This is the big problem with hollywood jeff and you know it from our talks. Mayby you are right but we have seen this before, and now with new management at fox im getting concerned. Avatar will be a hit but it has to make what, a billion dollars. you think lightning will strike twice for cameron, I hope so...your friend john m

I suspect we're going to get a lot of that, Jess.
Might have been nice as an Anime. But CGI
need to come a long way before you blend it
with Live Action on a regular basis. LOTR was
and exception. Even the Live Action characters
looked like cartoons in that one. So the CHI ones
Didn't really stand out so much. I can't really think
of a successful application of it off the top of my head.

I
didn't realize that Avatar was going to be in IMAX-3D! Hmmm...going to
have to see that one...although I really hate CGI. But if it sucks, at
least I'll have a good nap while my kids enjoy it. (Expensive nap, but
you have to catch winks where you can find them!) I was quite
disappointed to realize that Cameron's Avatar was not the cartoon I was
watching on
Nickelodeon.
