Planet of the Apes is an astounding film. A
civil-sociological allegory, actresses in the mold of futuristic
realm-fiction, it is an intriguing blend of chilling sarcasm, a sometimes
foolish juxtaposition of android and ape mores, ...

Re: [pota] Re: rumors about a new POTA movie?
Thank you. I felt the same way when I saw the trailer. It's a video game. Not to mention a visule rip-off of both ALIENS and STARSHIP TOOPERS. I know know who Cammeron didn't get sued for ALIENS with all the tech and visuals stolen from TROOPERS - not to mention some of the lingo.
I suppose there's no one left to care from the authors family to pursue; as with ELLSION with TERMINATOR.

I recently
acquired a 45rpm record by a guy named Gary Knight called Planet of the Apes (B
side: Greta Green Grass) on the Philips label which was released in 1968!
The song is about the planet in the future run by Apes. I had never heard of
this before but it does show, like with Michael's Mangas, that 'new'
Apes stuff does still pop up occasionally!
Moxy if you are
interested in scans of the label etc. (no picture cover for this one) for your
Wiki page about POTA songs just let me know and I'll get something together. I
am also working on making an MP3 version available as soon as I can if
anyone would be interested.

Don't worry, John. If "Avatar" tanks, the
Chipmunks "squeakquel" will save Fox.

im sorry my friend jeff, but i tend to agree johnroch49. The point being
that you and I know that everything will probably rest on camerons movie and
thats not fair to the tens of other films that can be made, especially our
dear apes film. Cameron is given to much leway simply because of titanic. when
i come to think of hit personally i only like two of camerons films,Strange
Days and Terminator (1984). This is the big problem with hollywood jeff and
you know it from our talks. Mayby you are right but we have seen this before,
and now with new management at fox im getting concerned. Avatar will be a hit
but it has to make what, a billion dollars. you think lightning will strike
twice for cameron, I hope so...your friend john m

I recently acquired a 45rpm record by a guy named Gary Knight called Planet of the Apes (B side: Greta Green Grass) on the Philips label which was released in 1968! The song is about the planet in the future run by Apes. I had never heard of this before but it does show, like with Michael's Mangas, that 'new' Apes stuff does still pop up occasionally!
Moxy if you are interested in scans of the label etc. (no picture cover for this one) for your Wiki page about POTA songs just let me know and I'll get something together. I am also working on making an MP3 version available as soon as I can if anyone would be interested.

How can you fine folks, science fiction fans, talk that way about James Cameron, who sweated blood for almost 5 years to bring you the next great science fiction movie? Shame on you! Mr. Cameron could have taken his "Titanic" money and retired champion, the biggest hit, the most Oscars ever.
But no! He rolled up his sleeves and went to work for YOU. Yes, the blue people look weird, they look strange, but we tend to be afraid of what we don't understand. I see the "avatars" as a metaphor for scuba diving, Cameron's great love, and the weird creatures and locales are obviously patterned on Earth's last frontier: the ocean. I had trouble with the look at first too, but seen through the eyes of an enthusiastic diver, the glittery creatures and the exotic designs work for me.
Cameron knows his science fiction and his storytelling. He's a ripe target after "Titanic" but I don't care. I love his flicks and this one is going to rock. I welcome him back to science fiction after 18 years.

Yeah, I'm talking about the movie. The book, which I've read, is an SF literature classic -- and controversial for its seeming glorification of fascistic government -- but the movie is a loopy mess. (Which also kind of discribes Denis Richards!)

There was one thing that puzzled me in the
Banana Splits credits were shot at Six Flags

use the Six Flags in L.A.? Was it not there

Have alot like I said(not bragging, just had no other hobbies other than hi-end audio in those days and I was an only child so it made money my way alittle easier). I have that conquest style "B" as it says on the back of the poster. The 3 sheet or 6 sheet is in that style. My three sheet of "Planet" is worth about 3 grand,(I had an offer) but Im keeping it for now.
Lets see how the new Apes movie does. Prices shot up when burtons movie came out in 2001.Thanks for the great posts with the poster..john m (friend). Thanks for looking out on E-bay. I"ll do the same..

There was one thing that puzzled me in the
Banana Splits credits were shot at Six Flags
Over Texas here in Dallas. I know there's a
Sid & Marty Kroft connection, but why not
use the Six Flags in L.A.? Was it not there
in the late sixties? I never understood that.

.htmlYeah things like this get mixedup.. Jaffe was offered a role but he got claustraphobic and had a bad ticker and , so I see how these things get mixed up. In was in a couple of ape books about robinson, and my uncle who was friends with a guy from fox also said this. I met a man who was a photographer for fox(while working for Crazy Eddie) in the 50s and 60s told me he heard this at some decadent party in the hollywood hills in 67 remembers that his new beard was a point of discussion. It took him so long to grow it that no matter what he wasnt going to remove it. When after the makeup trails were over he was gone. John Chambers also said it in some pennysaver column I had from 73. john m

.htmlSo you're saying the stories about Robinson and Jaffe were mixed up? But Heston told the story about Robinson having a bad heart in the Behind documentary. How would he mix it up with the Jaffe story since Heston had nothing to do with Battle?

.htmlWasn't money also an issue? Robinson would have come with a hefty
price tag, but Evans was only $25,000 which saved the studio a lot of
money.
Some speculate that the entire 'bad heart' reason for not going with
Robinson may have been a face saving cop out. I do believe that there
was no doubt that his heart was not good.
At least we all got Soylent Green as his last hurah, and with Heston
to boot.

James I not saying anything wrong really. Im sure you know that the actors respect themselves and each other. the only way he could get out of a contract was health. so heston being friends with robinson and you know how it is. edward g. ask heston to go along with the bad ticker story so he can get out of the movie and keep his beard. In other words they lie. But that is nothing new in this world Im sure you told lies to protect your wife, kids, friends, youself. But the truth from a couple of good sources was his beard thats it. The apes was an unproven venture and getting out was no big deal(you wont know what your missing). Sam could and probably did have the same physical problem ,him at mid 80s at that time. I was going through my books and believe it or not the Brian Pendreigh Planet of the apes book has it in (glad I found). But like everything else who knows. Like i said some people that were their and said the same thing...john m

Jess, I could kiss you. You have got to be proud of your results of Burke and Virdon. Seriously, making casts of these available to the group would make so many custom figures complete. They are truly awesome. I was so pleased when I received the custom outfits from you and then so disappointed with the scale and likeness that Ada produced with her Burke head, especially when her Brent head was so spot on. Please let me know when you are happy to release these to the group, I'm already cleaning my brush collection. In anticipation Rob
