100.but 100 xs 10 is 1k and 100 xs 100 is 10k but wheres this pyramiding going youll ask?well its a popular hit and whats not to like about simians ruling in the chain of commands evolutionary ladder.theyre equipped with rifles, speech, and ban together.if you go beyond the horizon youll see perhaps theres many fans but few to come forward as we do here.lastly as i can def talk i hope we all had a good new year.i honestly didnt but oh well it happens each year at my residence.

.htmlMight the Planet of the Apes movies be coming out in 3D versions soon?
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article6982297.ece
As you may have already read, 3D HOME viewing will be possible soon, thanks to interest sparked by Avatar.
Can you imagine scenes in 3D such as:
*The Hunt (original POTA movie);
*The Battle (from the remake);
*The climactic discovery (original movie's conclusion);
*The underground (Beneath the Planet of the Apes);
*Conquest...
and so many others that would give new life to a classic series...
If we express enough interest, won't it likely happen by next Christmas?
Happy 2010 to all :-) <.html

youre very welcome james and since i was very young like 5 and im 41 going on 15 lol.but i liked the scary apes and rifles, cages, zaius, spaceship, the desert like location. its unique with mammals running the place and taking over the civilization.i luv the merchandise too and corneilius is my fave one.but for action figures its def soldier ape.will go to hulu today to see an episode of the tv show and look for the comic books as i already know of a store selling them cheaply.thanks, eddy

.html Hi, Edward,
You wrote "too bad only 14 of the 27 episodes were ever crafted onto film" in regard to the TV series, which would seem to imply there were 13 that weren't made.
However, I'm aware of only six that are known of that were planned but never produced:
# A Fallen God
# Hostage
# The Trek
# Freedom Road
# The Mine
# The Trial
(I'm not counting the two Serling scripts since they're an alternate plan for the series.)
Can you please elaborate as to what you're referring to when you say there were 27 planned?
Thanks.

Roddy as a human? That would have been outstanding!
Here are snyposis of the unproduced episodes:
"The Trek"
After years of hiding, an ethnic minority tribe of humans is convicted of resisting the apes. Facing extermination, some push for an accommodation with the apes, but others prefer either to go down fighting in a last glorious battle, scratch out a subsistence existence in a secret canyon or risk a trek to a better life beyond the Forbidden Zone. The latter poses many dangers, with no certainty such a promised land exists. The fugitives and Galen become involved with the tribe when they save a tribesman from summary execution by a gorilla patrol. The astronauts advocate finding the Forbidden Zone, despite Galen's superstitious fears of that area, and his belief that the tribe is dangerous. Ultimately, Galen overcomes his fears and leads the tribe through the wasteland.
"Freedom Road"
A human named Odin is recognized while saving one of the astronauts. A gorilla prefect offers amnesty to anyone with information about the fugitives. The trio allow Odin to accept such amnesty once they've escaped, but fear it might be a trap. Galen visits the prefect and learns the offer is legitimate, and that the gorilla is investigating the disappearance of several prominent humans, who may have left to forge a rebellion. As such, the prefect forbids travel within his territory without passes. The fugitives discover an underground railroad for apes and humans seeking Shangri-La. They accompany the group to the contact point, then set out for the promised land. Avoiding patrols, they reach the next railroad stop--Urko's trap to ensnare rebellious humans. Foiling the gorilla in charge of the stop, the passengers embark to build a better life, while the fugitives continue on their own quest.
"The Mine"
An old man locates a once-advanced human city and uses its technology to build a water-driven mill. The fugitives find the mill and hope whoever built it might help them find a way home. The old man is forced into slave labor, mining salt for the apes. A corrupt gorilla operates the mine, cheating the council and forcing extra work from his slaves by feeding them in proportion to productivity. The astronauts lose track of Galen while trying to free the man, and are
themselves captured and enslaved. To free them, Galen assumes the guise of a government inspector, not realizing the corrupt leader would feel threatened by--and try to kill--an inspector. The astronauts convince the slaves not to compete for food, then escape and save Galen's life. The old man and the gorilla leader are killed in the process. Failing to learn the great civilization's whereabouts, the astronauts wonder if it really exists.
"The Trial"
A nasty gorilla in a highly productive village hazes a human field worker. Virdon defends him, inadvertently killing the ape. The commanding gorilla orders Virdon's execution, but Galen and Burke raise doubts about his guilt. The humans refuse to work if Virdon is unfairly punished, and the commander agrees to a trial. Virdon discovers that a human has been selling home-brewed whiskey to gorillas, whose drunken brutality caused the tragedy. Vowing to execute Virdon, the second-in-command contacts Urko, who gives him control of the village. Ignoring all evidence, he sentences Virdon to death, but Galen and Burke ply the guards with whiskey, rescue their friend and escape prior to Urko's arrival. Furious at losing his quarry, Urko blames the officer for the drunken guards' failure.
"Hostage"
The fugitives discover the secret base of the United Freedom Force (UFF). Apes raid the site moments later, forcing an evacuation, and Kemmer lobs a grenade as he leaves. Troops capture the fugitives and two UFF members--Aro (an ape) and Black (a human)--and Urko gives Galen and Virdon 48 hours to locate Lora. Sallus and his wife Clia visit Burke's cell. He suggests Lora might be freed if the council relaxed restrictions. Virdon and Galen traverse the Blasted Zone to the new UFF base--the former NASA Research Center HQ--to find Lora has joined the rebels. A woman named Katrin gives Virdon a tour, and romance stirs between them. The UFF sends the council Lora's bracelet and a ransom note demanding the abolition of the new laws, but Urko executes Black instead. Galen urges Lora to return home, but she fears the others' wrath. Furious over Black's execution, Kemmer and Grayson decide to kill Lora, causing a schism among the rebels. Katrin's supporters free the
hostages, and Grayson tries to shoot Virdon using an ancient laser gun, but the weapon overloads, destroying half the building and killing both leaders. Lora returns to her parents and testifies on the fugitives' behalf, and Zaius lets them go. The rebels head out to form a peaceful human-simian society beyond the Blasted Zone, which Lora considers joining one day.
"A Fallen God"
The fugitives visit Arizona and find a village where humans are mute. Syrinx, a dogmatic preacher ape, captures Burke and Virdon, saying the ape god sent him to rid the world of mankind. Galen claims the men as his own, but Syrinx makes him sell them to Telemon, a chimp farmer. Telemon and his children, Dardon and Delphia, worship a radio transmitter found in their field. As the astronauts study it, Telemon mistakes them for intruders and shoots Virdon. Burke jumps out a window, heads for the hills and meets a tribe of speaking humans led by Gorn, who plans to raid the village and rescue Burke's friend. Tending to Virdon's wound, Dardon names him Thura and treats him with kindness. Virdon asks Galen to get him tools to fix the radio, then tells the family he can speak. The apes are willing to help, but the eavesdropping preacher believes the men to be evil. Galen urges Burke to abort the raid, saying the farmers are peaceful, but Burke calls him a sellout. Syrinx tries to
destroy the radio, but the farmer lets Virdon fix it, amazed when someone responds. Gorn's people storm the farm, destroy the radio, beat up Galen and kill Syrinx. Running off the invaders, the fugitives set out to find whoever answered the radio, vowing to return if they find a place where humans and apes can live in peace. As they leave, Dardon tries to fix the transmitter.

Anyone here seriously think Fox is going to spend $10 Million on converting 1968's "Planet of the Apes" to 3-D? They'll do the 2001 version instead -- and it'll still suck!
When I went to see AVATAR, I kept lifting up the 3-D glasses to look at a much brighter, more pleasing picture and wishing I could just watch the movie in 2-D. As long as you need glasses to watch 3-D -- the thing sucks! Hollywood went through this almost sixty years ago, and it was a passing fad then, and it'll be one again. Think I'm wrong? Didn't I say AVATAR would do very well? But, I'll bet forty years from now there will be damn few who will care about AVATAR, but they'll still be watching '68s PLANET OF THE APES -- and in 2-D!!!!! .html.html First generation of 3D HD TV's will need glasses, 2nd generation won't.
That's why it's important to hold off until the 2nd generation comes around. If their not out there already and coming out together with the first generation.
Remeber, there's going to be a big battle among TV manufacters over this. And he who creates the best 3D TV first, wins! :o)
As for films. 3D processing woun't be needed. There will be TV's that will bring out more depth and perseption to anything it broadcasts.
Including Planet of the Apes. :o)

Regarding the animated series, your idea is a good one--that would have been great. In fact, it was something being considered. Check out this page:
http://planetoftheapes.wikia.com/wiki/Jack_Kirby
Jack Kirby helped conceive an animated continuation of the live-action TV series, and created sketeches of Burke, Virdon, a female "blonde companion of astronauts" and Toomak the Slave Boy.
Yep. Toomak the Slave Boy.

Could you guys take this discussion online. As fascinating as I find the details your personal home theaters, there are others who aren't as interested. Thanks.

things that bothers me about home video set ups is that the speakers are outside the screen. They really should be behind the screen, which is how I'd like to do it. But I have my doubts about how much I'd like LCD projection in the long run. A 12' plasma screen -- now that's the thing, but the energy to run it would be terrible. I still don't care for LCD TVs either, but I fear plasma is on the way out, so I'm happy with my plasma TV for now. >  > Oh no! We're not talking POTA.... better cut this off. >  > -- Rory >

I've started a new Yahoo group as an adjunct of this group. I'm calling it the POTA Offline Discussion Group and it's for the obvious purpose of allowing -- because their are human types that insist on not allowing others to do things that they don't like (most obnoxious beasts these humans!) -- discussion of "Off Topic" things that come up from time to time in this group and may be only indirectly related to "Planet of the Apes," such as Blu-ray players and future technology, or what's happening at the current 20th Century-Fox, or one of the POTA actors' or crew's many other motion picture credits, or action figures and toys not POTA related, -- or anything that just doesn't seem to pass the test of the moderators at POTA. This group will be unmoderated -- as I have no interest in policing humans -- and welcomes anything that anyone here might want to discuss -- even the links to profanity laced You Tube videos
that James likes!
THANK YOU!

This projector's light bulbs cost you $30 every 6,000 hours.
This video projector is like an fake imitation ROLEX. Looks great, runs great, cost great.
Much like in the days of Computer Clones vs. IBMs. Looks great, runs great, cost great.
I've never owned an over priced IBM and I never will. :o)

.htmlOK I'm not sure what about the request, "Please take this discussion offline" was unclear. Or at least take it to the adjuct group Rory created for off topic discussions: http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/POTAOffline/
While we try not to censor any one and will allow the occasional off topic post, when they turn into major threads between a few individuals specifically addressing each other & not the whole group and no one even has the common courtesy to put OT in the header so others can bypass; it is over the line and we unfortunately have to step in.
No further posts in this thread will be put through. All will be automatically deleted. Thank you.

At first I thought it was a piece of paper being blown around...but looking again, it looks like a white rabbit. It's around the time when Nova first encounters Brent...forget exactly when since it's been awhile since I have seen Beneath.

There are also pieces of white tape on the scorched ground
just as Brent introduces himself and drops the shovel, marking the two spots

James, that's what I think they are referring to. Not sure if
it's a cup or not, but it's definitely a piece of paper blowing in the
wind.
The pieces of tape I'm referring to are when Brent tells Nova his
name, and then drops the shovel. The tape marks are clearly visible behind
him during that scene.

Thursday, Jan 28 at 07:00PM
In response to current blu-ray screenings of Science Fiction films in Seattle, Northwest Film Forum champions the presentation of classics on their intended format and opens a dialog about the future of film presentation.
We are proud to present this screening of a glorious, pristine 35mm
film print of the 1968 sci-fi classic starring Charlton Heston as an
astronaut stranded on a planet where superior apes dominate inferior
human slaves. The film is a one of cinema's most imaginatively crafted
and beautifully shot science fiction allegories.
Immediately following the cinematic journey into an imagined fate of
the human race, join us for a coffee and informal discussion with
Seattle film professionals Sean Axmaker (MSN.com formerly of Seattle PI), Dennis West (Cineaste), Jeff Shannon (Seattle Times) and others about the fate of cinema exhibition.

From the statement, "We are proud to present this screening of a glorious, pristine 35mm film print of the 1968 sci-fi classic starring Charlton Heston" it sounds like they are showing a 35mm print.
But did you read: Presented in the original high definition 35mm! And: In response to current blu-ray screenings of Science Fiction films in Seattle...
Sounds like it might be projected Blu-ray. If not, what's "high definition 35mm"? 35mm is 35mm.
