Just FYI, by coincidink, 2 trailers for new movies
starring "Rise of the Apes" leads have come out so I thought I'd post them.
Neither James Franco or Freida Pinto are household names but there's a good
chance their profile will "rise" before "Apes" comes out.
Franco has a number of movies coming out between
now and when "Apes" debuts, including a film opposite Julia Roberts next
month, a reunion with his "Pineapple Express" director (a medieval stoner
comedy), a drama directed by Danny Boyle (pretty much a one-man show with
serious Oscar bait) and this one where he plays Beat icon Allen Ginsberg in
"Howl":
Freida Pinto is just getting started as an actress
but "Slumdog Millionaire" was a great launching pad. Here she plays the title
role in "Miral", directed by acclaimed dude Julian Schnabel:
There's too much talent in the cast; "Rise of
the Apes' should be illegal! ; ) <.html <.html

Word is that David Oyelowo might join the cast of
"Rise of the Apes" as Steve Jacobs, the corporate guy behind the ape medical
testing. Obviously the character name is a nod to original "Apes" producer
Arthur Jacobs. I'm cool with character names that tribute the folks that made
the original films (there's reportedly an orangutan named after Maurice Evans)
though I don't like characters named after other characters (Dodge, Stewart,
etc.). We'll see how it pans out.

About 15 - 18 minutes. They could've cut out some other stuff. The down side of CG is filmmakers going over the top. Taking action to an extreme that hurts believability and, yes, turns it into a cartoon. Hopefully they will show restraint on "Apes" (no apes jumping like fleas as in POTA2001). King Kong has a lot of over the top but it also has some of the most moving CG work I've ever seen. It's just plain a lot of movie, good and bad.
There's a scene in the original, classic KING KONG where Carl Denham asks Jack Driscoll if he's gone "sappy" over AnnDarrow, and that's the BIG problem with Jackson's version -- it goes sappy!

If not, then I'm not all that edified by the notion of a "Rise of the Apes" movie since the screenwriter(s) appear to be mangling Apes lore altogether. In my opinion, there can be no faithfully evocative Caesar character who wasn't born the child of Zira and Cornelius. (And yes, I'm saying in essence that there can't be a remake of "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" without first having *faithfully* remade "Planet", "Beneath" and "Escape from the Planet of the Apes.")
In essence, I believe they should have stuck to with the name Aldo (as indicated by Cornelius in "Escape from the Planet of the Apes") for their rebel ape character.
Better yet, instead of greenlighting a project which appears to emulate certain of a recent science fiction book's key plot points, 20th Century-Fox should have gone ahead, acquired and filmed F. Paul Wilson's science fiction novel "Sims", which is a spiritual cousin to "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" and original to boot. with LONG space trips. They didn't go into a rift or

Not sure what "normal speed" is, but PLANET, BENEATH and the TV series did deal with time travel. In PLANET, Taylor's ship was traveling at nearly the speed of light with the resulting time delineation relative to earth (same as in the Boulle novel), in BENEATH suddenly there's a Dehn "sewage in time," and in the TV series, same thing. There's all sorts of ways to Time Travel.
I'm bothered by your not knowing this.

You're absolutely correct, sir, though Paul Dehn and James would disagree. The "original" PLANET timeline therefore gives Fox plenty of room to "reboot" the franchise and leave the original sequels (to BENEATH) alone.
As for the rebooted ape being named Caesar... Well, not many are going to get the Aldo reference, and Bonzo is definitely out.

Or maybe the Aldo story was a myth in their scriptures just as the dates, characters and stories in the Bible might be myth.

LOL!!!
Reminds me of that scene in Born On The Fourth Of July.
They had to have charged fire hoses for a girl with one sparkler.
The cables for the lights had to be tacked to the wall of the hall
because the hoses leaked. In this case the precautions were
more dangerous than the hazard. Sometime rules are for
fools.

A slew of new actors has been added to the "Rise"
imdb ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1318514/fullcredits#cast
), including Terry Notary, a famed movement specialist. He trained the ape
actors for POTA2001 as well as doubling Tim Roth. In this one he plays "Alpha",
presumably the 2nd major ape in the cast. Probably he'll do the Andy Serkis
thing of performing for the CGers to use.

I've done some more of the screen capture thing.
Here's a couple shots from the early part of PLANET shot in Southern Utah near Lake Powell. If you think the makers of PLANET were the first to shoot there you'd be wrong. Between the two shots from PLANET I've placed two similar shots from the 1966 Western DUEL AT DIABLO, and below these is a shot from 1976's THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES which had a long scene take place pretty much exactly where PLANET was shot nearly a decade earlier.
And take a look at the opening scene from DUEL AT DIABLO on You Tube to get a pretty good idea of what the area looked and still looks like. I visited the place over twenty years ago and know what I'm talking about.

Word is that David Oyelowo might join the
cast of "Rise of the Apes" as Steve Jacobs, the corporate guy behind the ape
medical testing. Obviously the character name is a nod to original "Apes"
producer Arthur Jacobs. I'm cool with character names that tribute the folks
that made the original films (there's reportedly an orangutan named after
Maurice Evans) though I don't like characters named after other characters
(Dodge, Stewart, etc.). We'll see how it pans out.

FYI, here's some more from the stars of "Rise of

James Franco, the media is making a big deal
about him "lowering" himself to do a soap opera. Here's an interview where the
busy guy explains things, plus some clips from his career. After shooting
"Apes" this summer, he goes off to study at Yale:
Here's the trailer for Freida Pinto's Woody Allen
movie. She co-stars with another actress who did some time with a CG ape, Naomi
Watts:

Nothing on Apes but thanks for the link. Very informative on the man, the myth, the future POTA star.

FYI, here's some more from the stars of "Rise of the Apes".
James Franco, the media is making a big deal about him "lowering" himself to do a soap opera. Here's an interview where the busy guy explains things, plus some clips from his career. After shooting "Apes" this summer, he goes off to study at Yale:
Here's the trailer for Freida Pinto's Woody Allen movie. She co-stars with another actress who did some time with a CG ape, Naomi Watts:

This one is for Mr. Digital Cinema:
A&E Home Entertainment is going to build on the success of their recent (and awesome) Prisoner Blu-ray release by bowing Space: 1999 - The Complete Season 1 on Blu-ray this Fall! SRP is $99.95 for the 6-disc set, but Amazon has it for just $69.99.

I'm surprised it never has. At least not in the U.S. anyway.

"6 Million $ Man" : Time Life is releasing it
as a complete series in November (only available at their website) and then
about a year later it will probably hit stores in seasons (such as they did with
"Get Smart"). It's available in other regions as seasons.

If you've seen the Big Foot episode
you know why. They really jumped
the shark with that one. There's a
good Venture Bros. about that one.

I've been forgetting to mention this, but there's an "almost" direct connection between POTA '68 and the new RISE OF THE APES movie being filmed now. It involves a cast member in the new movie. I should have noticed it right away.
Anyway, I'll see if anyone here can guess it or discover it yourself.

Sorry, Kevin Bacon is in "X-Men: 1st Class", not
"Rise of the Apes". They open the same month and are from Fox, but not close
enough.

No, but it is a six degrees of separation type thing.
I'll make it easy for you, who's the most senior member of the cast? Now, go look up his credits, then maybe, maybe, you'll be directed to the correct answer.

I see what you mean. John Lithgow was in
"Footloose" and so was Kevin Bacon. Bacon was in "Apollo 13", which was written
by the guy who wrote POTA2001.
