Yes, you must be new.
We already talked about all that,

I've been enjoying seeing the early penciled pages, even though I don't have much to say about them. As Graham noted, it's interesting to see how tight Neil's pencils are.
As far as how decayed SF is or isn't, since I consider the TV series to be a separate continuity from the films, it's only been about 500 years since man's downfall, based on that New York picture dated
2503 in the first episode. Greg

How about we just skip to the pages that haven't been seen yet? would that be preferable?

In this week's installment of the Conquest adaptation, Armando's interrogation continues while Caesar is sent to the breeding annex of Ape Management. It's no question
who got the better end of that deal. Parents who were outraged at the number of unclothed apes in last week's issue should shield their eyes from page 8 in this issue.
Parents who enjoy letter columns should skip right to page 12.

Oh yeah, that's a good point. I always forget about that picture in the first episode. There's also those dudes who left that projection in one episode. Kind of like something out of Star

I don't think it was a contractual
thing. I think it's just Fox using McDowall as the glue for the whole "saga". As
a whole, he really is the star. And arguably he's the actor most associated with
it, even more than Heston. It's his mug on the 30th, 35th and probably 40th
anniversary covers. Putting Roddy's name above the title is just where it
belongs. - - - Jeff

No, my guess is that
Roddy McDowall made a deal with them before he died.
You'll notice on
the box covers now for PLANET that both Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowall's
names are above the title. It used to be only Heston. I think
maybe giving McDowall above the title credit for all future presentations of
PLANET was a way to get his cooperation for the 30th Anniversary stuff,
hosting the Behind documentary and allowing the use of his home movies, and
I'm sure McDowall wanted to make sure he'd always be remembered for
APES. So now his ape puss is all over everything and they're selling his
head. Good for him.

It's not like he'll know anything.
Capital and EMI his sales figures from
The Beatles for years. From what I
hear the comic industry is worse than
the music industry.
Whilst I LOVE any comparison between me and mssrs. Macca, Winston O'Boogie, Little Richie and Hari Georgesong, I'm not sure where you've gotten this impression about the comic industry.
Diamond Distributing, the main distrubution system for Comic Shops in North America, regularly releases their sales figures (a couple of months after stuff hits the newsstand). The Top 300 sales
figures are widely reported on the internet the week of release, and as co-publisher for Mr. Comics, (rather than a hired writer/artist etc.) I'm not sure who would be keeping the sales figures from me.
Now, after saying all that.
Our sales are better than a number of people thought they'd be, but lower than I'd hoped. Of course, I was hoping for something in the quarter million range, each issue hand delivered by half naked starlets
on mopeds. In the real world, no one's swimming in Scrooge McDuck money around Casa de Senor Comica quite yet, but we're doing okay.

Hmmmm
….
What I’d like them to be about is
where (in our group anyway) all POTA fans (define THAT!) can get together and
discuss things of interest to them.
I don’t like all the personal
attacks and name-calling, and I hope everyone here can take it upon themselves
not to push me into a corner about this.
If it does continue, I will consider doing what James does, and “muzzling”
offenders so others CAN have a say and not be bullied and frightened off. I like hearing from the “little
people” who DON’T consider they know everything.
I believe there ARE some who simply want
to own YAHOO! groups because that’s the only way
people will listen to their lies and nonsense. Eg James used to get slammed every time
he said BATTLE
was cut to get in one extra screening. Now he just censors anyone who disagrees
and there are some poor fools out there who probably believe his lies and don’t
realise he is making it up.
Ever wonder why he fled to an established group
instead of just starting his own?

Ask James Rory!
Neil spent a lot of time on a TV Show Map
with US
cities superimposed over the top. James “stole” it and posted it on “his”
site and when Neil found out and asked him to remove it, he refused (stating
that the work is not Neil’s, it is FOX’s,
so Neil has no “ownership” claim!).
So I’m sure he’ll do it and I’d

Oh now, that's too easy. I meant, specifically on which album are they credited as such. For instance, John calls himself Winston O'Boogie on the Walls and Bridges album,
and at least one other (but no more hints). That's what I meant by sourcing the nicknames.

Yes, it was meant as a joke. I occasionally try to inject a little levity into the weekly issue announcements so they don't seem so dry.
For the record, I received no complaints from any parents for either issue and I have no problem with animal nudity in comics. I thought it was a travesty of justice when Marvel Comics was forced to put pants
on Howard the Duck. Greg

www.comingsoon.net has a link to
an interview with Fox's Tom Rothman, who lays out what projects Fox is working
on. "X-Men 3" is out this summer and Rothman says it will bring to a satisfying
conclusion the X-Men trilogy. Maybe more "X-Men" movies in the future, maybe
not. Also in development are "Wolverine" and "Magneto" sequels.
In the writing stage are "Fantastic 4 2" and
"Alien vs. Predator 2", both for 2007. And "Silver Surfer" is a possibility.
So no word on "Apes 2" but these flicks only
go up to 2007 and 2008 is the 40th anniversary, a good time for a new movie.
Could it be...? And, hey, POTA was a comic book put out by MARVEL, and Fox is
the House of Marvel. So will Marvels never cease?
This is Jeff reporting from
Hollywood.

Hi Dan
I used to believe there were billions of
POTA “fans” out there, but now I think there are probably about 100
(a limited edition?).
The others are Sci-fi fans, comic book
fans, Kim Hunter fans, Chuck fans, NRA fans……etc, who are also POTA
fans. But their loyalty and $$$$s are committed firstly to OTHER things…….
Remember, BG actually had a successful “comeback”. IF
Burton’s movie was
better, or GOOD even,
it would have worked for POTA. It
actually did a lot of HARM instead.
Had Ty released this comic book in 1990,
when ADVENTURE smashed all current comic-book sales records (then lost everyone
because their stories and artists, other than a couple, were rubbish), we would
have had the topless roller skaters delivering them on a platinum tray! A record amount of people who may not
have been fans, but had fond memories of POTA, were ripe for the plucking and instead
the got an ass (rhymes with) plucking.
Now the “fans” are weary –
and almost as cynical as Rory! ;)
Blame FOX (I always do!). They need to stop marketing polished
turds and give us substance. We are
lucky that MR COMICS has the license for POTA COMICS because they give a
crap. FOX do NOT give a crap, and
they continue to damage their golden goose as we speak.
What happened to ad campaigns? The MEGO ape?
The Ape-A-Thon? Throw some money into advertising, FOX! The reason POTA2001 did not “succeed”
is that it was rubbish! Now we have
a SOLID comic book series and action figures worth buying and trading card sets
(that struggle to sell a limited edition of 300!), push CLASSIC POTA! Send around an army of men and women in
ape clothes – go to the people and hand out bananas!

Subject: Email Delays
Hi Folks,
Should have posted this earlier, but I wanted to let everyone know
that we are aware of the delays in email delivery that are affecting
many groups right now. The problem is not related to any of the
database and hardware work we were doing earlier in the year.
Rather, the primary cause is the "My Wife virus
( http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_138027.htm), which has caused a
huge spike in the number of emails sent to Yahoo! Groups. This spike
has gone beyond the capacity of our current systems to handle, which
is causing the delays in email delivery.
We have already taken two steps to address the issue, which has
begun to reduce the number of delays:
- We are dropping (i.e. not delivering) all outgoing email that
includes the virus (in other words, we are not sending infected
messages to groups).
- We have added additional server capacity
And we are planning to increase that capacity even more. However,
until the virus has fully played itself out or more ISPs have taken
steps to reduce the amount of email they are sending to us (by
dropping messages that contain the virus rather than forcing us to
do it), there may continue to be some delays.
Our apologies for any inconvenience.
- Gordon

Not very many as dedicated as us lot I would say and then even fewer
who are prepared to part with their cash to buy Apes products. A few
examples would be how badly something like the Beware the Beast poster
sales were (especially when compared to the amount of people who said
they would buy it which prompted us to go ahead and produce the thing
in the first place!) or the Rittenhouse cards or the Sideshow figures
or (add your own product here!)
And if things don't sell companies give up on them and try and make
their money from something else. We are all quick to blame Fox for all
the Apes troubles but really, why would they bother knocking
themselves out to do something that they know has little chance of
reaping any rewards?
The one thing we are lucky with is the amount of fans willing to do
stuff for nothing because of their love for Apes but even that becomes
pointless eventually, I know I can find better more rewarding things
to do with my time and I'm sure people like Greg P. for example could

Oh, I think it was something McDowall negotiated before his death, but who knows -- except maybe his agent.
As far as his name being where it belongs... Well, the POTA purist in me wants to remind you that PLANET is

Warner Brothers is close to a deal to rent New York's Kingsbridge Armory as
a preproduction and studio set for a movie version of Richard Matheson's famed
vampire novel, I Am Legend, the New York Daily News reported.
Warner is in the process of closing a deal to rent the armory for seven
months for about $350,000, city officials who control the armory told the
newspaper.
Warner is in the process of closing a deal with the city's Economic
Development Corp. to rent the entire first-floor interior of the armory for the hefty
sum of $50,000 a month. City officials said the studio plans to rent the
armory's 190,950-square-foot interior from Feb. 27 through Sept. 30.
Warner officials could not be immediately reached by the Daily News on
details of the film, such as who would star in it. But a city official said the
studio plans to shoot the entire film in various New York City locations.
I Am Legend, which was originally set in Los Angeles, centers on the lone
survivor of a plague that has transformed the world's population into
blood-sucking vampires.

It's called Pussycats, but you get the points for remembering the source, even without the name. Excellent! (For those who care, PUSSYCATS is the rarest of
oddities, a John Lennon album, that's not REALLY a John Lennon album. Although John produced the record, plays piano and guitar on every track (and sings on a lot of them), and though John chose every song,
wrote a couple, and reteamed with Ringo Starr, Jim Keltner, and Klaus Voorman of the Plastic Ono Band to make the record, Mr. Harry Nilsson sings lead on all the songs, so it's catalogued as a Nilsson record, when
it's really a group album with Nilsson, Lennon and Ringo. Lennon appears on the album cover, though, just to let people know what they're really getting. Of all the odder Lennon/ Beatle recordings,
it's about the hardest to find in regular record stores, and I doubt it's been released on CD, damn it all! Personal favorite tracks: Old Forgotten Soldier and Mucho Mungo.)
If memory serves, the Hari Georgesong reference might prove impossible. It's from a pair of albums that have ABSOLUTELY never been released on CD, and have probably been out of print since the mid
seventies. Biggest hint: They're part of the miniscule DARK HORSE RECORDS non-Harrison catalogue.

Our

Not lately. To get into the actual criminal distribution/ mob days, we're talking Seventies/ Eighties...and this isn't the the hookers, drugs, gambling and smuggling version of
the mob...but basically a group of crooked distributors that used to sell "destroyed" magazines to the public, in fairly large numbers and ask for credit on them from the publishers anyway. It was a
widespread practice - returned issues-- warehousing out of date issues of magazines was prohibitively expensive, magazine publishers preferred to have the retailers dispose of unsold issues themselves...and
"buy them back" by giving them a credit for unsold issues on their next order.... all based on the HONOR SYSTEM!!!
Basically, crooked distributors would sell a certain percentage of the stock twice...once to a customer, and once back to the publisher as "destroyed" or unsold, which was a lie. For certain
popular titles at the time (Like the Kirby Fourth World and Adams and O'Neil's GREEN ARROW GREEN LATERN titles) the "back of the truck" distribution became so large a percentage of the total sales that
this very popular comics were cancelled because of "low sales", even though more copies were getting into the hands of fans than other, "better selling" titles.
This practice was essentially eliminated from the world of comics in the nineties, with the comic shop/non-returnable system. I'm sure it still happens to the world of big time newsstand distributing,
though.
And I mentioned on another thread, sourcing the Beatle Nicknames meant, saying what and where the source of the nickname was. In the case of Winston O'Boogie it's WALLS AND BRIDGES, PUSSYCATS and a few
other mid-Seventies Lennon releases. I'm dying to see if there's a Harrison maniac out there who has the Hari Georgesong album. (I'm the only one I've ever met personally, although famous
comic writer Gail Simone, no small Beatlemaniac herself, dropped the reference on me once, earning her many points in my fevered Liverpudlian decendant brain.)

In St. Helena, Adams, clearly, is no number; and he enjoys
keeping himself and his public smiling with each mail delivery. On Halloween and
other holiday times, for example, he always dresses in costume.
"Last
year, for Halloween, I was in my 'Planet of the Apes' outfit, and on Christmas I
was dressed as Bob Cratchit from 'A Christmas Carol,'" he said.
Happy in
his work, Adams says he is happy in his play, as well. Besides being an avid
skateboarder, he has become a ukulele freak, and strums with a group called the
"Wine Country Flea Jumpers." He said his friend, Judd Finkelstein, started the
uke band, which ranges in size from four to 20 people, depending on who is in
town at the time.
There are only 100 hardcore POTA fans left in the world,
but this postman in St. Helena "Bonham-Carter",
Californica
can find 20 people to play ukulele with? Something's
Wrong!
At least he dresses POTA for Halloween. That's something I
guess.

Speaking of Apes and Comics
Kevin Smith, a huge POTA fan,
and Jason Mewes are going to
be at Comic-Con or some-such
event. What the ??? I'm sure
Jay will be loaded for that. He
has a real problem. Have you
seen him in the Dogma Extras?
He needs to get it together,
before he's has to do those
celebrity loser shows or
rob gas stations!

.htmlHey guys, lets be realistic here, McDowall, has had more involvment with
the whole POTA franchise then Heston ever did. It's only natural that he
be most associated with the POTA franchise.

feel obliged to take them ALL away in a sense.
However one of them will not be coming back…..
This is something many fanfic
writers have done to conclude the TV Show – kill off a character….
Michael
Well, I do hope if you kill any of them off it will be Alan. I can relate to Pete so much better then Alan?

.htmlI really enjoyed the 2001 film and am surprised how many other fans
didn't. It's only disappointing when you compare it to the original,
which nothing could compare to.
Hopefully Jeff's speculation is right that 2008 will offer something
for POTA on the big screen.

Ty, this is a VERY good idea! I hope you have success with this because people buying the DVDs need to know the comic is
there.Maybe you can do an ad for them if they do an ad for you or something………..?
While I don't think it's a bad idea either, my question would be: Isn't it too late to get such a campaign going? The DVD set's release isn't all that far off, and I'm sure they already have their
promotional material handled, as this type of think must be prepared well in advance...
