Hi Rich – good to have you here.
It is wonderful to have a new monthly POTA
comic, isn’t it?
This one is in stark contrast to the 1990s ADVENTURE comics (as crap as THEY
were I still waited with baited breath!). The new stories are well thought out and
(as I am sure you would know) they combine some of the biggest comics names around – who all just
happen to be Canadians! I have been getting Neil the required
papers to become a Canook, so there’s hope yet!
Ty is a member here and he seems to somehow respond to all the posts that address
the new MR Comics, so you may hear from him soon too (just don’t pressure
him to explain Churchdoor!).
Michael

Hi, all,
Some of you know me, but most probably
don't. I used to be a member here, but got burnt on ape fandom for a
while and left to focus on other pursuits. The new Revolution comic from
Mr. Comics, however, has rekindled my interest in the POTA saga, so I thought
I'd return and see what people think of it.

Which old LP? A friend of
mine just found me the soundtrack to "The
Warriors" that I've been looking for. I love
it when I get new Lp's to
add to the collection. Up to around 2500 now, not
counting
duplicates. :)

There was both – a fun sketch and a
few serious ones we were looking at possibly making a character.

I remember Neil did some great sketches of an ape
bounty hunter after
a humorus banter with Hunter Goatly. I never
thought it was a serious
option. Just having some fun. I remember when we
used to do that
here. Have fun.

I’m right there with you Rich, but like
the old men in the Monty Python sketch I gotta say where I am we had it worse....
We had no Apes week.
We never got the butchered TV Shows made into
films.
But like you I did get the comics and the novels
(and the Power Records) and I saw the movies where and when I could.
My memories of POTA are a jumble of the above
and if you asked me what POTA was back then I would have thought it was anything
with the logo plastered on it.
What a depraved existence without the
internet!
I saw Beneath first (on TV, “Sunday
Night at the Movies”), then Battle
at the cinema (and I swear it was the uncut version, but I could
be wrong). Then I saw Escape and
the Planet. So I had NO idea what Taylor
was carrying on about when he saw the statue.....
The final movie I saw was CONQUEST –
at the marathon (we had this at the Drive-In and it was only 4 movies....not
sure which one missed out!).

As a child of the 70s, I grew up loving the
"Apes" films and TV shows. Every year, my mom and I looked
forward to Apes Week on channel 9, when they showed badly-butchered versions of
the 5 films. Before DVDs, before video stories, we relied on TV for our "Apes"
fix, and it was never enough. I read the comics and the novelizations and
I watched the even more badly-butchered TV films that were made from the
Burke/Virdon episodes, but I wished there
were more to the story.

I've also told him that if he wants the kind of extras with BENEATH that he says he does, he'll have to contact Fox and let them know what he has and probably provide it to them with only the credit "From

Yes, it is. He's got so much stuff on BENEATH and knows so much about it, that he could provide enough for a 2-disc special edition of BENEATH, with a massive photo and poster gallery, call sheets and
production info -- and do a commentary track! -- but call Fox and tell them he'll do it all for nothing? No way! They'd have to call him first and pay him.
He also bitterly resents Eric Greene and the fact that Fox has gone to Greene instead of him. He thinks Greene's book is garbage. I tell him it's because Greene lives on the West Coast and he lives in
New Jersey. He's been out to LA, but he doesn't make any contections.
He also made a bad deal with the publisher of POTA REVISITED, who claims the books didn't sell well. Russo didn't make a dime and he's still sore about that, AND he also despises the remake, which he
feels buried the franchise.

.htmlI love the Mego Planet Of The Apes line and I even love the generic Mego
Astronaut that was made to avoid paying more to use Charlton Heston's
likeness for a Taylor figure.
But Charlton Heston was one of the first actors I recognized and liked at an
early age and I always wanted a POTA style Taylor as Mego would've done him
in the early 1970's.
So, when I found someone that had a Mego size Heston head, I did the rest.
I believe the Taylor that Mego would've chosen to do would be clean shaven
and in his Astronaut outfit. I believe they would've also used as many
existing molds and clothing patterns as possible. Mego had leftover molds
and patterns from thier GI Joe like effort Action Jackson and thier Barbie
like effort Dinahmite.
The guns with Ape figures were originally made for Action Jackson, as was
the Treehouse playset. Zira's boots were originally made for Dinahmite
The Generic Astronaut outfit is a recycled pattern from an Action Jackson
outfit. I believe they would do the same for Taylor only make it in white
fabric and put on sticker decoration. It wouldn't look exactly like Taylor's
ANSA outfit would capture it in an impressionistic way (just like Dr.
Zauis's outfit).
I took a leftover Astronaut suit I had and after using color remover, bleech
and finally white fabric paint, turned it white.
The boots are also Action Jackson and are like the boots on Generic
Astronaut except in white. The boots are original Action Jackson so they are
kinda yellow with age. Might eventually replace them with white repro boots.
I cobbled together graphics for stickers (ANSA logo/nametag, chest pocket
zipper and US flag) and made a belt out of an oirginal Action Jackson belt
buckle and white band elastic. The Apes/AJ riffle finishes him off.
I primed the resin head a couple times to insure smoothness and painted it
to look as much like a 1970's vinyl head as possible.
I can repro all the Ape boxes and had an Astronaut repro box on hand. I will
eventually make a box for Taylor but in the meantime for the photo I put him
in the Generic Astronaut box and digitally added "Taylor" to the box.
My box for Taylor will probabaly feature the full lenth photo on the right
(I have a couple other choices though) on the back of the box.
Here it is. Keep in mind my goal was not to make a totally accurate Sideshow
style Taylor figure in 8 inches. It was to make the figure as if Mego did it
in the early 1970's to catch a boys eye in the toy store or the pages of a
Sears or JC Pennys catalog.

to one site I looked up:
pom·my or
pom·mie
(pŏm'ē)
 n.
Australian & New Zealand Offensive
Slang., pl. -mies.
Used as a disparaging term for a British person, especially a recent
immigrant.
[Shortening and alteration of pomegranate,
Pummy Grant, alterations of Jimmy

I myself always thought it had
something to do with being a Prisoner Of his/her Majesty
which is what most of the original Aussie settlers
were.

Well lets put it this way. Italy had a hockey team playing in the
olympics. But ask the average Italian (in Italy) about hockey, and they
won't know a thing about it. Most of the "italian' hockey players were
canadians of italian descent that simply qualified by spending some
time in Italy. I have never heard of any cricket being played here,
have never met anyone who either played or even knows the rules of the
game, but I'm not surprised that maybe somewhere someone put together a
"Canadian" cricket team. Your comment that an Aussie may have been the
captain says it all.
Not sure how cold it gets down under but I'm fairly certain that no
matter what Canadian city he picks as his new home, he'll have to get
used to some mighty cold weather and lots of snow.
Well being a Pom (English) I am well used to cold weather and snow and
infact prefer that type of weather to the stinking hot stuff we get
down here!
OK so maybe you can stand and English winter, but that's not the same
as a Canadian one. Trust me. ;)
Oh yeah. Happy hippy birthday!

No you are not the only one to have enjoyed the Adventure comics. I
know they stank to high heaven when it came to quality, and they are
easy targets around here, but I still managed to enjoy them because,
frankly, at the time, the were the only new POTA stuff I could get my
hands on. I almost have the whole set now (I think I'm only missing the
one Annual they put out) and one day I will reread them.

If someone can let
me know the proper scanning settings, I can try a better match; 72 dpi seemed
to yield too small a file size. It was difficult to make it flat on the
scanner bed and keep the edges down (hence the wave). Sorry but my

I’d not re-read this in the comics
for some time and it’s interesting that they are discussing the Lawgiver,
and that this is an intro to TERROR.

It's the penultimate chapter of Marvel's adaptation of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, and there's so much action in this installment it crowded out everything else. No letter column, no article, no
photos, just 13 pages of comics and a cover. Greg

Do you have Frito's Corn Chips there? Or maybe Dr. Pepper?
