Once again, Hollywood can't see the forest for the trees. Sure, get some hack to do your prequel. I just found this interesting. They never learn, do they?

Oh Hell No!  Why would they learn.  Smart people learn.
They confuse being lucky with being smart.  They're
lucky enough to have people with a vision making
films for them and they think, "Boy, I sure am smart!"
Idiots!  Warner's passed on POTA. Universal passed
on Star Wars.  So, does that make Fox smart?  Not
in a million years.  They took Apes as a favor to
Jacobs and Heston because they wanted something
else.  Alan Ladd Jr.  Made Star Wars because Lucas
had just made American Graffiti, one of the most
profitable films in history.  Those people don't get
their jobs or keep them because they're smart,
but because they're lucky!  George Martin didn't
think much of The Beatles when he decided to
work with them.  So he was no visionary.  But
just imagine how the people that passed on
them feel.  Probably like the idiots they are.

*** Okay, I'll give it this much: At least in REVOLUTION you can tell what ape species are what, as opposed to the ADVENTURE sh*t...

I was disappointed to see Neil's two pin-ups being shrunk down to next to nothing too...

I would have preferred to see them in their full splendour as well, however I think Ty is a champion for getting them in there and he dedicated quite some space to words about Neil.

Must disagree – I thought the stories in REVOLUTION were a few notches above.

I also loved that it was set in a familiar place.

This is the part of Monkey Planet that reminds me most of ESCAPE.

An additional 7 pages of Neil Foster's English-adapted version of the Hungarian Monkey planet are also now available to view. Thanks to Neil for all his hard work on these pages.

Finally, Michael Whitty and Neil Foster's original comic story Within the Planet of the Apes is now available to view, and a PDF file is also available to download. Thanks to Mike and Neil for making this story available to a wide audience.

Lots of good Apes comics to be thankful for this holiday.

***I'll have to relook at that page to see what you're talking about... But, you have to remember, the apes on Soror are not POTA apes so to speak, so it's gonna be obvious that he drew them as wearing "clothes" like we'd wear, cause that's how they are described in Boulle's novel...***

If you haven't seen the latest Bond flick, "CASINO ROYALE", yet... do
yourself a favor and go ASAP. It's one of the best Bond flicks ever
made, easily in the top 5. Daniel Craig kicks ass in the role; aside
from Connery, he's the best portrayer of Bond, IMHO. Much more
believable than Moore or Brosnan -- especially in a fight scene.

My only quibble -- and it's a very small one -- is in regards to the
torture scene. I've only read the first 2 Bond novels, "CASINO
ROYALE" and "LIVE AND LET DIE", so I knew about this scene from the
book. And the tortures inflicted on Bond in that debut novel are much
MUCH harsher than what is portrayed in this new film's torture scene.
I was kinda hoping they wouldn't pull any punches in the filmed
version... but Bond's torturer (Le Chifre) does what he does, and it
doesn't involve making Bond bleed "down there" as happens in the
book. The scene still plays well, though, and those who haven't read
the book won't know how different it is. Having read that novel (many
years ago, sure, but some scenes you just can't forget!), I had
certain expectations about this scene. They played it differently,
which is okay... but they COULD have gone even darker, and closer to
the novel. And no Bond film fan would ever EVER forget it, if they
        had!

Regardless, this film is still one of the top 5 Bond films, easily
superior to any of the Brosnan ones, and the Moore ones. I'd place
Craig between Connery and Dalton on the Bond-ometer, followed by
Lazenby, Moore, and Brosnan. I've liked all the actors, in varying
degrees, preferring the believably tough guys over the pretty boys.
And Brosnan just didn't know how to MOVE like Bond: he ran like a
girl, whereas Connery established his body's fluid moves as if he
were the human equivalent of a jungle cat.

Anyway, now that they've rejiggered the franchise -- this film being
        a "BOND BEGINS" similar to the "BATMAN BEGINS" re-start -- I can't
wait to see the next Bond film with Craig in the role. At the rate
they've been making them, I'd guess the next one will be out in 2
years or so. He signed on for 3, and I hope he makes at least twice
        that number!

        Good flick, go see it!

A whole bunch of roughs. I'm now working on cleaned-up
versions of them. As I finish 'em, one-by-one, I'll
scan 'em in and post pics -- if Yahoo will let me.
I'll have to see if I can scan 'em in at smaller
resolution, I think. Yahoo seems to have an issue with
        large file sizes, the bastards!

By the way, neither at the DG site nor in my Yahoo
mail Inbox does the pic show up -- just a square box
where the pic should be, with a small box in the upper
left corner with a red X in it. If nobody else can see
the pic thusly, they'll have to see it on the Homepage
        of the POTA_Phenomenon site.

Would they have seen it in cold-war Hungary? If he had it would have
been very difficult to not be influenced, even subconsciously by it.
Either way it's fascinating to see the source material from a
completely different angle. For example, I notice the chimps are
much smaller than humans, as they should be, but because of the
images we're familiar with, I didn't expect them to be.

        I agree Patrick...Daniel Criag kicked ass! I
commented to friends after the film that Brosnan would
be a very broken man if he did all that this Bond
        did.....Although I liked Brosnan as Bond....I'd rate
        the Bonds like this:
        Connery
        Craig
        Dalton
        Brosnan
        lazenby
        Moore

Yeah that’s what I was getting at.

Because I saw PLANET first, I always read Monkey Planet seeing the apes from the movies (and sensing their movie characters).

I always wished I had read MP prior to seeing PLANET.

Does anyone know when the next mini series is coming out? or the TPB
for the first mini? I thought they would have been solicited by now,
but I cant seem to find any information about it.

                Thanks People :)

Just wanted to know if anyone can help with a question I have about the
                POTA's comic.

The first issue from Adventure had a regular number 1 and a limited
edition number 1. Does any one know what extra's the limited edition
had? I heard it might be an extra story. If so, what was it about, who
was it by and how many pages was it?

                Thanks for your help!! :)

I have this – I’ll get it out later and see if I can help.

It is a different cover and yes, I think there’s an additional short story.

I just spoke to our publisher about this, this week, in fact.

The Revolution graphic novel will be solicited for sale the same week as Hoverboy #1, which we're currently looking to launch in Feburary, so it should be solicited at the end of December.  As to the next POTA series EMPIRE, the decision to launch that comes a couple of weeks after the GN goes on sale, so the official yea or nay on that comes early in the new year.

As I've said before, Mr. Comics broke a little below even on the Revolution mini-series, and the graphic novel has to do well enough to make a second series possible.  We're crossing fingers, and shall be promoting it in the final weeks of this year.  I would love to have enough sales on the GN to see Empire in '07, we shall all see if the fates allow.

In the meantime, I'm BUSTING proud of the stuff that's coming into the office for Hoverboy.  Every page and cover has been a GEM so far...and I can't be too proud of the script, cause I wrote it....heh heh.

I know this message is basically, "hurry up and wait" for a couple of months on the GN, but that's the schedule I've been given, and I don't make the calendar decisions, just the editorial ones.

                Ty the Guy.

If so, whet are some extras we can expect, if any?

The contents are not set in concrete yet, but there are definitely going to be extras.  We have some stuff ready to go, including two interesting but rejected covers that made it to pencil stage before being tossed,  and at least three or four pages of art that were re-drawn for one reason or another.  We're currently talking to Richard Pace about using some of the seven pages (and gorgeous fully painted cover) he did for the series before schedules required that we replace our lead artist.  (Richard's pages were fantastic, and I've always hoped they'd see the light of day...they've never before been seen.)  We also have all of our promotional material created when THADE was going to be in our story.  Richard did a gorgeous painted portrait of Thade in oils, getting used to the character.  There's even a five page backup story that was fully plotted and laid out (by Sam Agro, who co-wrote and drew the wonderful backup story featuring Taylor's daughter) before we went another direction.  The story needs only to be lettered to be readable, and it's a doozy, too.   There's a couple of very cool 3-D computer generated "Apes" images Joe O'Brien was working on when he tried to convince me to "draw" an backup story with a sfx computer.  (My favorite is the Statue of Chimp Liberty poster Joe did, which I'm SURE we'll be putting in the GN.)

And I wouldn't mind reprinting those Neil pin-ups from the last issue in colour.

I will do my best to make the final package everything I can make it, promise.

BY THE WAY:  I just picked up the DVD for the animated apes series, RETURN to the Planet of the Apes.  I've watched the first couple of episodes, and I have to say this....

                SLOW...?

They're not exactly ripping, fast paced stories so far, but I'm only a few eps in.  It's a hoot to see new POTA stories though.

                Ty

By the way Ty – if you do colour these, I would be willing to put serious money into getting promotional posters printed with the 2 images and I’ll pay postage to send the posters to the various stores.  You could even do something similar to redemption trading cards where lucky winners get to send in and receive a poster.

Have a think about this and please let me know if I can help.

I think it's great, as are all of the other extras that Ty listed.

I was planning on buying the trade anyway, but if Neil's pin-ups are
going to be printed in the trade in color, then I'm buying two
                  copies.

You know – I am hoping eventually you can re-kindle POTA interest and do a classic POTA – The Animated Series.

This worked well for the BATMAN franchise and the X Men.

By the way Ty – if you do colour these, I would be willing to put serious money into getting promotional posters printed with the 2 images and I’ll pay postage to send the posters to the various stores.  You could even do something similar to redemption trading cards where lucky winners get to send in and receive a poster.

Seriously – many of the comic stores I visited to buy these comics said they would have loved a promo poster and all of them were selling everything they got anyway!

For those who got the Beware the Beast Posters, I’m talking about the same size and paper quality.

The contents are not set in concrete yet, but there are definitely going to be extras.  We have some stuff ready to go, including two interesting but rejected covers that made it to pencil stage before being tossed,  and at least three or four pages of art that were re-drawn for one reason or another.

I think it's great, as are all of the other extras that Ty listed.

I was planning on buying the trade anyway, but if Neil's pin-ups are
going to be printed in the trade in color, then I'm buying two
                    copies.

Thanks, Neil! Yeah, this is the result of a few years' worth of
work, but it's been a labor of love.

Incidentally, I'm already making some changes, as I've rethought my
stance on the fifth film's placement, and I'm also adding graphics to

That's very impressive. I noticed references to the Argentinian (I
think) POTA comics. I didnt know there were stories unique to
overseas comics, just reprints of the Marvel originals. Are there
others, apart from Apeslayer in the UK? And are they any good?

Hey, guys (Greg, Hunter and Neil)

I just wanted to say that I'm very impressed at the work you two have
been doing to archive and preserve this work for the fans. Although
I have the full UK set, I know a lot of fans do not, especially
outside the UK, and this is their chance to catch up with it. As for
the Hungarian adaptation, between Neil and Dave, we now have English
and Hungarian versions of the Monkey Planet adaptation, which is a
                        very cool find.

Thanks! So far, we know of four original comics from overseas:

                        1) The three POTA hardcover annuals (UK).
                        2) The seven Argentine issues.
                        3) The Apeslayer saga (UK).
                        4) The Hungarian Monkey Planet adaptation.

The first three are all worked into the timeline. Naturally, the
fourth isn't. Incidentally, PDFs of all seven Argentine comics have
been downloadable at Kass's site for quite some time now. Check 'em
                        out -- they're corny, but they're fun!
