The first three are all worked into the timeline.
It's your timeline, so what you include is your business, but I really think that the APESLAYER saga should have been left out... In my opinion, it really has NO PLACE in any APES canon... Let's face it, it
was put out there as pure exploitation... It's sole purpose was to feed the UK market who was running low on material for it's comics...<.html

Yes, but to leave it out would have violated the very reason I did the
timeline -- to be all-inclusive regarding the "classic apes" version
of Planet of the Apes. Canonicity isn't an issue for the purpose of
my timeline -- I leave that question for the readers to decide. I'm
simply presenting it when it happens, and readers can keep or discard
what they wish. <.html

-- Thanks Rich,
and I'd like to also add my thanks to Mike Whitty for splashing out a largish
amount of cash to get the Hungarian Monkey Planet comic in the first place and
then letting me get my grubby little fingers on it so I could scan it and add
the English text.
It really is a
nice feeling when something obscure and previously unknown like that and the
Argentinean comics do pop up out of the blue. It really makes me wonder (and
hope!) if there are any more Apes inspired comics still out there that we don't
yet know about.
Neil
Hey, guys (Greg, Hunter and Neil)
I just wanted to say that I'm very
impressed at the work you two have been doing to archive and preserve this
work for the fans. Although I have the full UK set, I know a lot of fans
do not, especially outside the UK, and this is their chance to catch up
with it. As for the Hungarian adaptation, between Neil and Dave, we now
have English and Hungarian versions of the Monkey Planet adaptation, which
is a very cool
find.

This was a solo effort. After finishing my Swamp Thing timeline, I
took a break from that universe and starting re-reading all the Apes
stuff, taking notes as I went along. It took a few years, though, as
my job and family kept taking precedence. Now that I'm done and just
need to add photos, I'm DONE timelining. It's a lot of work! <.html

-- Regarding
this section of your timeline Rich:
A chimpanzee architect
named Viraga ("Vira" for short) becomes furious when her husband, Julius,
humiliates her in public by ridiculing her work-and not for the first time.
Apologizing to his wife, he says he did not mean to hurt her, but that he's
grown cynical and bitter in his old age, unable to accept the cruelty ape
society inflicts on humans. The young-at-heart chimp executes a series of
acrobatic flips and jumps around the town square as he speaks.
Planet of the
Apes:
"[title unknown]" (MC-c)
NOTE
: This
Marvel comic excerpt, by Doug Moench and Sonny Trinidad, remains unpublished and
was entirely unknown to fans until March 2006, when a single page of original
artwork was discovered for sale online. Little is known about the story,
including its title and setting. Hopefully, the rest of the story will some day
surface.
Is this true? If
so is it possible to see this page anywhere? I have never heard about this
before!
Neil
This was a solo effort. After finishing my
Swamp Thing timeline, I took a break from that universe and starting
re-reading all the Apes stuff, taking notes as I went along. It took a few
years, though, as my job and family kept taking precedence. Now that I'm
done and just need to add photos, I'm DONE timelining. It's a lot of
work!

That, too. :) Actually, I've been considering adding that story to
the timeline, as its well-written and illustrated enough to be
professional. The only thing that has stopped me is that I would
then feel obligated to include other fanfic as well. I keep going
back and forth about that one. <.html

I much prefer printed magazines BUT a web based fanzine just makes more sense in this day and age.
It's not really fair too expect people to take a chance on forking out for a print bill if for what ever the reason people don't buy the mag and I include myself in the above. I never feel
comfortable with a pre-pay subscription always worried that the fanzine won't continue after the first issue and ofcourse it's this type of action however understandable which goes a
long way in making it difficult for fanzines to continue. The classic catch 22.
My hats of to Scrolls because they make it very easy for me to pay issue by issue but this leaves the financial burden on them.
Assuming the hyperthetical fanzines is coming from Australia then posting costs also becomes a factor when it's being sent round the world.
So a web fanzine is a good solution.
One advantage I also see, is the turn around and speed of issues.
No long waits between issues because you still have a few hundred of the last one in the loft !!!
You could build up quite a head of steam with out the usual burn out that a printed fanzine seems to produce.
Well this is just thoughts off the top of my head, as I say I really like printed magazines but...
Best wishes Graham.

All
valid points Graham.
That is the best thing about Scrolls –
people pay afterwards. However I can’t imagine it’s TOO good
for those forking out, and if a magazine were published free, straight to the
web, people could read it there then either print it or forward payment for a printed
version. Also, you could get away with a link to Rich’s timeline (for
example) which you could NEVER print in a fanzine (well – over time
maybe....).
No, I’m not volunteering. It’s
just an interesting point and something Neil and I discussed when there was NO
Simian Scrolls for 10 months or so and we wondered if the normally timely
publication met an untimely end.
If we did do it, this could mean Neil
would be doing things other than original POTA comics, and that would suck.
AND....you could argue we do it already
with the POTADG. We brought timely exclusives with the trading cards, we sought
out the personnel from REVOLUTION and got exclusives from Ty and Jo, found out
first that Palisades
intended to do POTA figures, offered Ty and
Palisades our thoughts and desires
as a group of fans. It’s sorta a fan publication anyway and
actually seems to run more effectively than the paper fanzines.

OK John
I must admit I neglected to check this out – my bad!!!!!!!!
I have now seen it and I’m glad I
did.
It looks to be a genuine Conquest Chimp
Jumpsuit but it is more likely an APEMANIA reproduction. And I say that
because I think they are APEMANIA prosthetics too.
The face looks great. On the profile
at the end, the eyes look a bit suspect, but the prosthetics are very close to
original.
There are two songs – “Damned
Dirty Ape” and “Let me Sleep On It”. The latter is
ripped off the Meatloaf sone, not sure if the first is ripped off from a Doors
song or something.
“Let me sleep on it....Taylor, Taylor
, let me sleep on it.
Let me sleep on it, I’ll give you a
banana in the morning.”
Who is singing the songs?
Michael

Meatloaf. I'm not sure who the band is but a friend of mine at the
local skate shop says he should be able to find out for me off of the
original skate dvd. I'll let you know if I find out.

Any of the scripts you have been looking for at this
site?

theplanetoftheapeszone@yahoogroups.com Subject: [The Planet Of The
Apes Zone] Large TV collection trimming -- many POTA scripts /
books
The one thing that Planet of the Apes fans do well (besides talk) is
collect -- sometimes to an extreme degree. After three decades
of collecting to the point it takes multiple storage units just to house
my stuff, I figured it's way past time to trim some of my collection
.......
So I've been pulling out lots of boxes from storage and
setting up a storefront online to reduce the size of my thirty-plus year
collection of TV & Movie books, scripts, & film cels/slides. As
of today I put the 1700th item on the "shelf" and figured it was about
time to "open the doors" as it were and direct people where they can find
my stuff displayed.
I'm posting this here since my listing
contains many scripts from Planet of the Apes (including several unfilmed
titles) which may be of interest to some in the group, as well as book
adaptations for the films and both TV series.
This is *NOT* a plug for
stuff on EBAY! I am not auctioning things off.
You can view my
storefront at the following URL:
http://www.wagglepo p.com/stores/ Highway98
And
being a long time collector myself I know how expensive collecting can get
sometimes, so you might want to check out this page to see discounts I
offer to those who purchase more than one item:
http://www.wagglepo p.com/bin/ UserPages/ Highway98
You'll
see a catagory navigation guide on the left of the store homepage to make it
easier to browse things.
I'd appreciate any feedback anyone might want
to offer about the store as well -- the appearance, functionality, ease of
use, etc. Please let me know what you think of the site and feel free
to offer suggestions on how I can improve the place.
Thank you for
your time.

.htmlNope, we have all of these on Hunter's site.
Actually, I'm not actively looking for scripts any longer because we
now have scripts for all of the films and TV epsiodes in the archive.
If a different draft or version of a script we already have pops up,
I'm happy to add it, but for now I feel the archive is fairly
comprehensive.

Apemania mask with some good makeup around the
eyes......I liked his ape like moves!
and incidentally ...here's a skateboard that was up on
ebay....I can;t find the link now so it must have
ended and I didn't have it on my watchlist....cool
tho!

.htmlNo, Hunter's site is remake-free. But both scripts are available
elsewhere on the web.
The Hayes script can be found here:

The Hamm script is here:

*** Yes... amusing! A skateboarder acting like an ape!
Seriously, though, it amazes me that they went to all the trouble to
do the CONQUEST-chimp makeup-and-costume. These dudes must have a
whole lotta time on their hands! Yeah, it was fun, and that Meatloaf
parody lyric was pretty funny. I wonder if Meatloaf himself has seen
this little YouTube video? I bet he'd laff his head off!
Patrick
P.S. Neil's work on Englishing that MONKEY PLANET comic -- which
Michael was nice enough to shell out the dough for -- is top notch.
Top notch! And to think that it's about 1 page away from being
finished! It's astonishing that that comic has as much of Boulle's
original in it, given that there's less than 30 pages in which to
cram it in. It's too bad that those Hungarians didn't choose to adapt
the novel in a set of, say, 3 comic issues rather than just one (the
novel being a 3-part story), so that there'd be 3 times the number of
pages, to more fully flesh out the story. Ah, well, it's amazing that
they devoted just 1 issue's worth to adapting it, I guess. Kinda like
it's the 'CLIFF'S NOTES' version, giving us the basics, but still no
substitute for the real thing. Thanks again, Neil (and Mike) for the
acquisition and translating/cleaning-up/presentation of this for all
of us APES nuts.
P.P.S. I caught the last 20 minutes or so of a documentary on one of
the science channels on satellite TV, about how bonobos like Kanzi
are taught to recognize various ideograms and can communicate with
humans. When Kanzi's human instructor tells him to "put the keys into
the refrigerator" he KNOWS what she's asking him to do -- and to see
him, on camera, revealing that awareness by picking up a set of keys
and putting them into a refrigerator... it just makes me glad that
not all of the great apes are languishing in animal-testing labs or
too-small cages, and the like [Actually, ANY cage is "too small"...
but you know what I mean, I hope!]. Kanzi and his fellow pygmy
chimpanzees (i.e. bonobos) don't have "ideogram arrays" in their
natural habitat, but in the habitat they've been inhabiting with
their human instructors they've adapted to having these instruction-
devices around. And they're not stupid or foolish creatures -- they
KNOW how to make use of this tool for inter-species communication. I
got the distinct impression that they're treated with dignity by
their human instructors, and that they've responded with their own
natural affection.
A hundred years from now, I wonder if there'll be any bonobos or
chimps or orangutans or gorillas left in the world. I'd like to be
optimistic about it, but my gut tells me that any surviving apes in
the 22nd Century will be descended from apes bred in captivity,
in "nature preserves" set up in America. The African and Asian ape
habitations aren't doing as well against the poaching problem as we'd
like. I recently saw a video blog from one of the hosts of CURRENT TV
(a satellite channel, number 366 in our area), showing his encounter
with gorillas in-the-wild... and giving some depressing information
about the current plight of those gorillas. They'll be lucky to
survive into the 2nd decade of the 21st Century, let alone the 22nd
Century.
Now I'm getting depressed. I should go watch that chimp skateboarder
again... <.html

Yes, the work with ape communication
using sign language and computers
proves that they are "aware". And
not just apes. Many higher animals
such as dolphins and whales etc..
are more there than we give them
credit for. My wife had a Macaw
that would tell you when she wanted
a drink of water or to go outside. I
guess it makes it easier to eat a
bacon sandwich if you're not thinking
about Arnold the Pig from Green Acres.

I've heard there's an extended version of "Beware the Beast" available, with pages not
archived at https://pota.goatley.com/beast/bewarethebeast.html Is this true? If so, where
might I find those pages? And is there a reason they're not archived with the others at
Hunter's page? (Just curious.) I'd love to see what I'm missing if there's more to the story.
Also, is there a PDF of the complete story available anywhere?
Thanks,

I have just
uploaded the last page of the English translation of the Hungarian Monkey Planet
comic to the Group's Files section.
Don't forget that
if you missed any pages you can see them all on Hunter's

First of all, last week's issue was actually 111, not 110. My bad. That issue contained the final installment in the reprinting of the Planet adaptation, so this week's issue sees the first chapter in a
reprinting of the Beneath adaptation. Like the Planet reprinting, there are some small differences from the original adaptation, as well as new splash pages, so I'm including these pages in the weekly PDFs. Also
included this issue is another chapter in the Battle adaptation.
Also newly available on Hunter's site this week is issue 3 of Simian Scrolls. This issue focused on the TV series. There's an outstanding guide to the TV series in this issue, among other things. Thanks to
John Roche, Dave Ballard and all the Scrolls contributors.
Finally, Neil Foster has completed his English adaptation of the Hungarian Monkey Planet comic. All pages are now available to view and download. Thanks to Neil and to Mike
Whitty for making this available. Greg <.html

It sucks that this is over, but now that it is, I have to ask Whitty and Neil if they are planning on making printed copies of this comic (as they did with their miniature version of BEWARE THE BEAST)?
Also I think there is something that you may want to fix Neil... In panel 168, where it says:
"We embark in the vessel's second launch. With a view to landing not far from Paris."
Shouldn't that really read as:
"We embark in the vessel's second launch, with a view to landing not far from Paris."<.html <.html

I remember seeing it when I was just a kid, But when they originally

It was a scene where one of the astronats was in the run down city and

with all the obligatory flashing lights, and shaped like the size of a
vending machine. And I think it either printed out a way for them to

I know it pretty vague, but can anyone help? was i dreaming this scene?

I know the current plan is to plan not to do another one.
Zanuck says if they do another one they'll take their time
and do it right. Good advice. They should have done that
in the first place. Burton said he'd rather jump out a window
then make another one. Good advice. Wish he'd jumped out
a window before making this one. Everyone else said they'd only
do another one if Burton would. See Burton's conditions for it
above.

cliffhanger. I don't want to spoil the episode for you if you plan
to buy or rent the DVD to watch it yourself, but if you simply have
to know what happened you can download the script here:

I remember seeing it when I was just a kid, But when they originally
brought it out on tape ( before DVD's had boomed ) as a box set it
wasn't there, so I dont know if I imagined it or it was from another
show... haha
*** It must have been a different show you were thinking about, because the PLANET OF THE APES television series wasn't released on home video anywhere in the world except for the Australian market. (And it's
release there was just a short time before they put it out on DVD here in the States...)
It was a scene where one of the astronats was in the run down city and
was in one of the buildings. There was this big grey computer there,
with all the obligatory flashing lights, and shaped like the size of a
vending machine. And I think it either printed out a way for them to
get home, or was going to tell them. I think it pretty much ended the
episode there, like a cliffhanger
*** "THE LEGACY" is the episode you're talking about, and no, it didn't end in a cliffhanger... It ended with Councilor Zaius having the machine blown up so it's "evil" couldn't get
out and contaminate Ape Society...
The machine itself played a hologram of an ancient scientist that gave the fugitives the information they needed to locate the vault which contained "the sum of all our scientific knowledge". They were able
to locate it, but by the time they were reunited with Virdon (who had been taken captive by Urko) they were unable to do anything with it because Urko and Zaius were hot on their trail... The fugitives fled the city,
Zaius ordered the vault of knowledge destroyed, and thta pretty much ended the episode (other than Virdon saying farewell to Arn and Kraik...)<.html

Hi, Neil,
I've heard there's an extended version of "Beware the Beast"
available, with pages not
archived at
https://pota. goatley.com/ beast/bewaretheb east.html
Is this true? If so, where
might I find those pages? And is there a reason they're not archived with the
others at
Hunter's page? (Just curious.) I'd love to see what I'm missing if there's more
to the story.
Also, is there a PDF of the complete story available anywhere?
Thanks,
Rich
