I only
listened to see what it is like.
I am
currently attempting to get back that 1/2 hour of my life back!
:)
Just
kidding.
Michael
Well it looks
like part 2 is ready to download for those that want to listen to
it:
It would have
been nice if someone involved had let the group know but It seems that they
don't want to bother with a group that has members who have the decency
to provide honest feedback instead of having orgasms over
it.
Anyway I'll
still give it a listen and it will be interesting to hear what fellow DG
members think of this latest part!

.htmlWhat did that "Lesson from the Lawgiver" have to do with anything? It
wasn't funny, amusing, or thought provoking. ...and why does the
announcer annunciate everything like Kermit the frog? Don't get me
wrong, nobody is a bigger Kermit fan than me... but come on. It takes
forever for the story to go anywhere. I'll stick to my old Power
Records at this point. Its really disappointing. I had high hopes.

Yeah -
you just have to FORGWT about postage!
Speaking of reasonable prices - anyone see what APEMANIABYJOHN got for
his POTA AHI STUNT CYCLE on EBAY?
Michael
-- The only
problem for people like me who don't live in the US is that reasonably priced
things can become too expensive when postage costs kick
in.
Neil
*** That's the thing, there is that eBay out
there... There are APES items in almost every price range, so the stuf is
there to be had...

I
actually like the style and I think it would make a great kids' book if you two
want to discuss the prospect?
Michael
-- True, the
minimalist style was used because it was a good chance to experiment with
using a faster style for getting the drawings done but any lack of interest is
not because of the story but a lack of interest for most things POTA due
to reasons I have explained recently.
Neil
And judging from Neil's lack of interest
he felt the same.
And given Neil's decision to go with a
minimalist style to speed it up,

The music seemed to be just randomly played where ever they felt like
throwing it in. There was such potenial to do something great and
fun. What a shame. And what's with all the swearing? Look, I'm the
Devil and I don't get offended by anything but I think my 6 yr old
would be more into this than I am.

What did that "Lesson from the Lawgiver" have to do with anything? It
wasn't funny, amusing, or thought provoking. ...and why does the
announcer annunciate everything like Kermit the frog? Don't get me
wrong, nobody is a bigger Kermit fan than me... but come on. It takes
forever for the story to go anywhere. I'll stick to my old Power
Records at this point. Its really disappointing. I had high

Oh -
you listened to Part 2?
Great, then they let Dr. Phil give thanks to everyone who
contributed. The music seemed to be just randomly played where ever they
felt like throwing it in. There was such potenial to do something great

-- I've just
listened to part 2. I wanted to like this, I really, really did but then
again I wanted to like Burton's mess as well.
I'm sorry but
there is so much I don't like about this.
That computer
'voice' really annoys me, that is when you can hear it over the 'sound effects'
which is a recurring problem it seems with this. Many times the voices are
needlessly drowned out by them. And
speaking of the sound effects the most common one so far seems to be footsteps,
if it's not the footsteps on the 'Lesson' it's the continuous metallic clanking
of feet in the spaceship, sorry but it just gets annoying and I hope that we are
not going to get half an hour or more of footsteps crossing the desert in the
next episode or two.
Is that hissing
meant to be the water pouring into the ship? And, why oh why, is there so much
profanity?
Another problem
for me is the amount of story time wasted by inserting needless music or sounds
and having nothing happening for what seems like minutes at a time, I sat there screaming in my head "just get on
with it!" at the start.
Something that
really worries me is that we are already about 40 minutes into this and
they've just got out of the ship! This is going to go on forever unless the pace
picks up (and the next part of the story, the trek, is meant to drag
on!!)
As for the
'Lesson' jeez, what a load of c**p. Nothing at all to do with the story and a
totally mindless waste of time and space, it's not even a lesson about
anything!
Sorry if I sound
totally negative about this but like I said, I really did want to like this, but
I don't so far but I do appreciate the time and effort that has gone into it and
I will listen to it to the bitter end if I can.

a while back when asked if they would ever make past issues of Scrolls available
online one of the editors said they probably wouldn't because they didn't want
to upset people who had contributed articles etc. by making issues available on
the net without those contributors' permission.
I was just
wondering, as you are involved in making them available (according to Hunter's
site and as there are no longer any Scrolls people on this group) whether they
have decided to abandoned this approach or is permission actually sought
from contributors before they are made available?
Hope you can
help answer this for me.
Thanks,
Neil
Also this week, issue 5 of Simian Scrolls, a Battle for the Planet of the
Apes Special, is now available to download. Thanks to John Roche and Dave

Due to the increasing number of requests for back issues, John and
Dave reconsidered the idea of scanning and posting the back issues.
If any contributors object to their material being online, it will
quickly be removed. Contributors to the issues yet to be scanned can
also notify Dave, John or myself and those pages will be left out if
the contributor requests it.
Thanks,
Greg

Neil
About your most recent post. I am doing this off-list because I respect you
and your art and you have been nice and honest in your opinions about my POTA
audio Drama good and bad.
It's one thing to critique-but when the insults started being hurled by the
same group of 4 people, I found it offensive. I have not the time for being
insulted, nor do I have the time to forward the odious email posts to
the people working hard to make this audio drama so they too can
be insulted by childish behavior (not by you).
The orgasms comment that you made was interesting.
Are there good points made on POTA DG, yes- sandwiched in between
insults. This is not how I deal with people and I am sorry, but I feel no need
to pay attention to these members what-so-ever. This has been done to celebrate
a set of films I love, and this mess started by the same 4 members has added a
taint that I have not the time for. As I stated earlier- you have been cool and
I appreciate your time.
Feel free to post this if you want to give these individuals- hiding behind
their computer screens- more fodder to abuse.
I ask you though-what have they put out there for the world to review.
Nothing. Typical....
You desrve respect because you put your art out for the
masses to enjoy and have taken the good and the bad.
These others- until they put their money where their collective and
offensive remarks emanate from- can continue to show their lack of grace. I care
not. My AD will soldier on.

.html Finally had time to listen to that first part of the BrokenSea audio
track. I pretty much agree with most of the comments already posted:
- Taylor's voice not appropriately cast.
- Lawgiver's voice was excellent
- The sound engineering was top notch (by that I mean the effects were
clear and it seemed that these guys had the ability to create ambiance
that they wanted. The choices made however left something to be desired
in some areas, like the computer voice overwhelming the other dialog).
- Blatant overuse of "PC"!
I suspect that a lot of the changes these guys made was to try to
modernize POTA. Well intentioned, but hard for many of us to accept
given the long history we've had with the original material.
I must say that I am both sorry that Bill decided to split and not all
that surprised. I do agree that having said he wanted feedback, it would
have been nice to stick around to try to get whatever valid criticism we
had to offer. I truly believe that if he had taken some of that
criticism to heart, he could have used it to improve the product. Oh well.
Onto other things.
That last Uncle Manny was a blast Neil! (both versions). And what makes
it precious is that there is hint of truth in it.
So that bring us to confession time! Has anyone here every tried to
hide their love of POTA? Personally I've been very upfront about it to
friends (and I don't mean just friends that like SF. That's too easy.).
The people I work with know I love Apes. (I've had an art clipping or
two in my work cubicle.) And I've never been shy to let it be known.
But, there was a time when I was younger, OK MUCH younger, when I was
more secretive about openly displaying my fandom. I would only let
certain people know, if I thought that they would be receptive.
Nowadays, I couldn't get a rats patootie what other people may or may
not think about how I feel about it.
Any closet POTA fans here? Come clean. Fess up!

There
are enough lame things associated with POTA without making

enough
actors to cast a decent Taylor from. But to make himself that
character? Especially with his voice -- Not that the Powerbook

That's a real Japanese Girl Group.
The 5,6,7,8's
He was in Japan promoting Pulp Fiction.
And he went to a Japanese boutique to
buy some clothes before he left. And they
were on the sound system. So he asked
the clerk, "Who is this?" And he said,
'Oh, that's the 5,6,7,8's. And he asked
is he could have the CD. And the clerk
said it was the sores copy. He could
just buy one at any music shop. But
he said he was leaving the country in
a few hours and he'd forget them and
never have another chance. So the
clerk called the manager on the
phone, and Tarantino explained the
situation and the manage let him
buy the stores copy. That's how
they got to be the band in Pulp
Fiction. Now they're the back-
ground music in the Vonage
commercial. Vonage is nearly
impossible to cancel by the way.
And not as good as a real phone.

-------------------------------------------------------------
*** As far as I'm concerned, the only connection between POTA and
LOGAN'S RUN is Taylor's advice to Lucius: "Remember, never trust
anybody over thirty." In the movie version of LOGAN'S RUN, they've
solved that Generation Gap problem... by "terminating" anybody older
than 30 years of age!
But as for any crossover, those damn cats just rule it out. Whether
you're a Circular Timeliner or a Two-Timeliner advocate, ALL the dogs
and cats die. Cornelius and Zira tell Hasslein, in 1973, that their
prehistory began with the plague that killed all the dogs and cats,
prompting the humans to take apes as pets. Even if you want to
believe that Caesar "changed" things in an Altered Timeline, he
CANNOT have changed the fate of the dogs and cats, since -- as
Armando told him -- "they all died, 8 years ago" when they they were
at the Pet Memorial.
Yeah yeah, I know... Arno's damn dog... but I'm with LordT on this
one. Besides, what kind of adventure could there be, with Logan 5
living in the late 23rd Century, a bit less than half the way between
the time of Caesar and the time when the Lawgiver teaches his outdoor
class of kids about him? From the "Year of the City 2274" until the
date "2670 A.D." there are nearly 400 years -- and no indication that
Logan 5 and his fellow City-zens ever made much of an impact on that
community of Post-Apocalypse apes and humans.

No, I don't think so. I'm not

What are you doing watching "Power Puff Girls,"

Whether you're a Circular Timeliner or a Two-Timeliner advocate, ALL the
dogs and cats die. Cornelius and Zira tell Hasslein, in 1973, that their
prehistory began with the plague that killed all the dogs and cats,
prompting the humans to take apes as pets. Even if you want to believe
that Caesar "changed" things in an Altered Timeline, he CANNOT have
changed the fate of the dogs and cats, since -- as Armando told him --
"they all died, 8 years ago" when they they were at the Pet Memorial.

Frankly I think the whole cats and dogs explanation is very
poor.
They
should have said the apes were genetically enhanced because they were about to
become extinct, and the military saw some use for them so they started
manipulating their genes.
That's
the "POTA BEGINS" explanation anyway. The dumb chimps wandering around,
getting run over are the poor end of the experiments.

doesn't necessarily mean that a few of each couldn't have survived somewhere.
Weird things happen, why just the other day a brand new kind of big cat was
discovered in the Indonesian rain forest.
I like to believe
that the TV series is in the the same dimension / universe / timeline etc., as
the movies and happens between Battle and Planet, but hey, that's my choice. And
as such I accept the dog and accept that they weren't all wiped out after
all.
As for there being
no indication in over 400 years that the citizens from the domed city had any
impact on the Ape community, so what? They don't even have to know each other
exists, one lives in isolation in a domed city the other is by all accounts a
tiny little community that doesn't even know there is a bunch of mutated humans
living on their doorsteps.
