I'm
not sure on this one Tim.
I was just wondering... .how did the films themselves do in the UK
when first released in theatres? I'm assuming well, since the TV series was
so huge.....

Yeah I
agree Tim.
But
you know it's all so competitive between the groups, and it has been nice to
kick the collective asses of "the others" for many years.
However it's also nice to do other things!
So
long as we have this group and I am free to post without being butt-raped by a
megalomaniac, I'm happy! :)
Michael
Oh I know Neil...no problem...
It does seem that most
"philosophical" discussions have all but run dry in all the groups! It's
cool when a new member joins in and brings up timelines or the plague or
other things that we have discussed, we veterans can fill them in on what
we know.
But we shouldn't let that discourage us (the lack
of topics)....we don't need to have a constant
running conversation. ...I don't think that it means anyone is less
interested in POTA (or so I would hope) ...it could merely mean people are
busy or perhaps they just don't have anything to sayat the present time. I
dig these groups as a way to stay connected to POTA-philes and to get
any info on new products or projects...
All I'm saying is, don't let
it get you down that there's not much buzz sometimes... ..I'm sure
we'll all be blathering about something down the line!
Have a great
day...! Tim --- Neil Foster <ntfoster@bigpond. com>

I am looking for a close up of Mendez, Caspay, and Ongoro. "Wearing" their masks and if possible, a shot of them holding their masks...
If anyone can provide a few pictures of the Mutants from BENEATH, please send them directly to me...
Thank you!

I'm back from France, and hope that you all found your way to Hunter's site during my absence to not only download the previous two issues of Mighty World of Marvel, but also to see the new autograph and
make-up appliance pictures he's added to the site. Thanks to Rob Reading, Dean Preston and Glen Scheetz for sharing these items from their colections.
Also added while I was away is a 37-minute video interview with Linda Harrison and Buck Kartalian from the recent Memorabilia show. Thanks to Darren Stockford and Rob Reading for making this available.
This week's issue is short, just a single file. Jason and Alexander are in snow country, and all that extra white space on the pages made the file sizes smaller. ;)
Thanks, Greg

*** I know you're just being sarcastic, as you see, it's just a general ad for MEGO, showing two of their hottest lines at the time...
But, to answer your question, ST and APES aren't interchangable, but if it would even be attempted, it'd have to be the TV series.

Look at this picture of what Fox is offering for the "Giant Collection" full series box set of "Land of the Giants." It's going to cost between $150 to $200 bucks! Now are there that
many crazy fans of this series? And we didn't get one extra for the POTA TV series!

Just to follow up on those two guys I told about a while back who've done commentaries for some of the Fox spy films on DVD. I've emailed one of them at
CINEMARETRO@... and this is the reply I got about doing commentaries for APES:
"Thanks Rory...I've suggested the Ape films to Fox...it will probably be a while in the best case only because they have marketed them so often that they probably want to give them a breather...I would love to
do the lesser ones [He means the sequels
], as I think sometimes these are the more interesting to cover because they've been analyzed the least...We had fun doing the spy movie commentaries for Fox... In fact, the famous Film Forum just had Eddy and I
introduce Our Man Flint last week in NY-- a packed house saw a stunning 35mm print that looked like it was struck very recently....Great to see audiences enjoy these old classics."
So, hopefully Fox will think that late 2008 is enough of a "breather," at least for the original, which will be celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Here are two different novel covers I just put in the
novel folder....
The first is from Turkey that I just received from
ebay.....no pics.....just a bunch of strange words
with "Zira", "Zaius" and "Cornelius" thrown in
occasionally! Printed in 1971
THe other is an alternate copy of Battle that someone
somewhere shared with one of these groups.....so we
know if it is US or from somewhere else?

.html AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (May 18) - A 400-pound gorilla escaped from
his enclosure and ran amok in a Rotterdam zoo Friday, biting one
woman, dragging her around, and causing panic among dozens of
visitors before he was finally subdued, officials and a witness said.
The Diergaarde Blijdorp zoo was evacuated and the 11-year-old
gorilla, named Bokito, was eventually contained in a restaurant
within the park, police spokeswoman Yvette de Rave said.
Four people were injured, including the woman who was bitten, zoo
director Ton Dorrestijn said.
Bokito was shot with a sedative dart and recaptured, said zoo
spokeswoman Lilian Jonkers, but she couldn't say what his condition
was. It was not immediately clear how he managed to climb the high
stone walls surrounding his enclosure.
A witness, Robert de Jonge, told NOS radio that he didn't see the
gorilla escape but began following it and tried to help after he saw
people running and screaming that the animal had grabbed a woman.
"I saw the beast running through the park with a woman behind him,
him grabbing her forearm," De Jonge said.
At a distance of around 30 yards, he saw the gorilla lie down near
the woman and then heard her scream.
"He bit her, or I think he bit her, because when he stood up his
mouth was covered in blood," De Jonge said.
He said he then stopped to tell arriving police what had happened and
ran with them as they traced the gorilla to a nearby restaurant
terrace.
The zoo was packed with visitors as many Dutch took advantage of a
national holiday Thursday to make a long weekend.
"Everyone was in panic, running away, screaming, wailing, screaming
kids running around, I don't know what all, kids without parents - it
was a total drama," De Jonge said.
Children cowered in their parents' arms as the gorilla loped past.
People tried to hide inside the restaurant and were trying to bar the
door, but fled as the gorilla approached, De Jonge said. Bokito then
punched through the glass door and ran inside.
"They were all in panic - the animal, too, I mean - and all the
people ran outside the restaurant, and zoo personnel were running up
and they were able to keep the animal inside by barricading the doors
with garden furniture and things," he said.
De Jonge said he later saw the woman "covered in blood," but walking
unaided. <.html

I've been to that zoo. They have a nice collection of gorillas. I wish I'd been there when this happened though.

nothing new for anyone has seen the 'Behind...' documentary and
the 'Planet...' DVD extras, but I love the artwork in these production
sketches and the other directions the movie could have gone in, so I
took screen captures from the DVD's. There's loads more I'll add later.

Also, I hope I'm
not stepping on your toes or anything but your pics reminded me that I had also
done some screen captures from the Behind DVD of production
art and cobbled them together.
I've added a
couple of them to the same folder but now Yahoo won't let me add any more for
some reason. I'll try again later...

At least there are some who still recognize a cool ending 40 years

Now, what amazes me here is that it says Betelguese is only ten million years old! If so, then an earth-like planet such as Soror could never have evolved there! Boulle should have picked a better star for
his sun.

Imprisoned on this planet ruled by the ape, Taylor begins to learn more about
his dire situation and of one of the few chimpanzees he can trust... Dr Zira….
While Dr Zaius stops by the zoo, and specifically Taylor's cell to learn more
about this "Bright Eyes", which does little to alleviate his misgivings about a
man that seems cognizant, on a world where man is but an animal to be used by
the Ape… And to top it all off some pre history is revealed about this
Planet of the Apes…
Here begins Part 2 of Planet of the Apes.

*** Yeah, it does seem kind of strange that Boulle -- who otherwise
evinces up-to-date information on Betelgeuse (it's variability in
luminosity, etc) -- wouldn't also know that it is a live-fast-die-
young star. I'm pretty sure that when he wrote PLANETE that
astronomers/cosmologists had a pretty good idea that red supergiants
must be rather young stars. My guess is that Betelgeuse was not only
the favorite star of Professor Antelle, it was also the favorite star
of Pierre Boulle and, since he wasn't likely to write another novel
featuring an interstellar voyage from Earth, he chose to have the
stellar destination be his favorite star (Betelgeuse), even though it
makes the story less plausible.
By the way, I wouldn't take Wikipedia as 'gospel' necessarily. Here's
the data from the INTERNET STELLAR DATABASE on Betelgeuse:
