Wow that's a cool statue. I wish I could have a life sized statue like

Where'd the picture come from?

Thanks.

speaking of Caesar's statue, does anyone know if the
Roddy McDowall rose garden at the "old Actor's home"
near L.A. is accessible to the public? can anyone just
go there? or do I have to wait til I'm retired?

Never thought of doing that. Thanks. Like that last one too!
Not sure who suggested it, but buying one myself is out of the question.
Lawgiver knows what it would cost just to ship the damn thing here.

Wonder what these jap ones are made of? The caesar looks like it may be
styrofoam, but I doubt that since it wouldn't last long especially being
      out in public like that.

I couldn't save the picture (or a few others) either and had to crop it down from a screen capture of the page plus I enlarged it a bit as well.

I really like these statues as well, in fact I have them as my desktop picture at the moment!

I don't know if you're into it Neil, but
Aa comic book publisher is looking to do
a Buckaroo Banzai comic book and they need
an artist. Just thought I'd pass that along.

I agree, thanks a lot for all the work you have put into this Greg.
I've been reading these stories for the first time via Hunter's site
and I'm sorry to see it draw to an end (especially with yet another
          unfinished Apes storyline!)

Speaking of comics, any more news on the 'Revolution' book?

          .html
.html.html I've forgotten to mention this before, but a segment of CBS This Morning today reminded me of it.  The segment was about the 40th Anniversary of the 1967 "Summer of Love" in San Francisco, but for me the summer of 1967 was "The Summer of Apes," specifically the period between May 21st to August 10th, during which PLANET was in principal photography.

So, we're in a very important anniversary period this year.  If I had my copy of Heston's journal I'd chime in every few days with quotes from what was being filmed on this day or that until August 10th, but I don't have the book handy right now.  Anyone else want to do it?

There is a guy on ebay whose i.d. is "musicalmasti".

He's currently offering a 16mm print of "The Surgeon" for around $400.
The item is described as being in London yet he says he won't ship to
          the UK. Hmm -- strange.

This guy is an utter ****. I paid him $600 for a print of BENEATH about
a year ago through paypal and never heard or saw a single thing.

          Everyone, spread the word.

The new issue of Toyfare has a price list of "graded"
Megos'...not sure how that works....do you have to
send your megos to someone to grade them? anyway, it
has this blurb at the beginning

"While the World's Greatest Superheroes and Star Trek
figures get most of the attention with Mego
collectors, just about anything that Mego put out is
seriously collectible. The Planet of the Apes line,
for example, often out-prices many of the WGSH
figures, and when they're graded, they're even more
valuable. While an 85 graded Hulk sells for around
          $375, a Dr. Zaius graded at just 80 sells for $400. A
planet where apes are worth more than men? MADNESS!"

          Astronaut Graded 85 611.00
          Cornelius Graded 86 510.00
          Zaius Graded 85 710.00
          Burke Graded 90 256.00
          Soldier Ape Graded 85 1,275.00 !!!
          Zira Graded 85 710.00

Damn! no word on Virdon , Urko or Ursus ....Ursus
usually being the highest price regularly.....

I hate to see it end. I've really enjoyed downloading the comics each
          week.

I've also talked with the people who produced the 1974 "Planet of the
Apes" rock album and they are waiting for contact from the head of
the small record label that released the album. Hopefully they will
be able to make full copies of this very odd & rare project on CD
very soon. I'll let everybody know.

It's only worth what the top bidder says it is.
I don't care who says what anything is worth.

They're probably basing what they think an item
is worth on historical highs.  That's useless. It's
like basing the price of gold on it's all time high.
The price is whatever the market says it is.
If you're selling something you get what
the highest bidder pays, not what some
dork says it's worth.  Money talk and

has this blurb at the beginning

*** I'm pretty sure the grading that you mentioned was from that AFI (?) graders...
They are a bunch of overly strict graders, and it's like if you have something and it's dead mint, it's not dead mint unless they say it... Otherwise, it might just be "mint"... For some odd reason, people seem to think they need their seal of approval or it's not worth anything...

Mego figures are simply not suitable for this type of "permanent" grading. They weren't made to last forever, and it's quite common for knee pins and other parts under stress to break in the packages. What happens when a figure graded at 85 loses both legs during shipping? It's ridiculous. The graders at AFA have also been caught grading their friends' figures higher than they deserve. If you want an honest appraisal of your figures, come to www.megomuseum.com and join the forum. They'll be releasing Planet of the Apes promo trading cards in the near future, and they're absolutely free.

Mighty World of Marvel issue 245 is now available to download from Hunter's site. This issue features the first part of the last Future History Chronicles story. And it has a letter column. And it's the second-to-last issue.

          Next week: The final issue!

I don't have a date on the release of the cards yet. There will be
ten or eleven cards in the set; one for each figure and possibly a
checklist/cover card. I just loaned Scott, the museum's founder, my
test market Soldier Ape this weekend, so the photos still need to be
taken, and then sponsors need to be hooked up. It'll be a couple of
          weeks, at least.

*** I'm with you on this... It's just that some people seem to think that AFI and all of the assorted "price guides" are chisled in stone... I've seen people on the MEGO MUSEUM that are of that opinion, even if their items aren't complete they still think they should get top dollar for it (or trade in items worth that much!)

I hate those price guides really, and it seems the people that love them the most are all for them when the item is their's, otherwise if they're on the buying end, they say things like "My God, how can they charge taht much" and so on and so on...

The cards will be available at most toy and comic shows in North America, so registration at the Museum isn't strictly required, but the cards are being given out to promote the Museum, and the guys in charge would certainly appreciate feedback and thanks. Go check out the Planet of the Apes galleries, read the Apes thread in the Classic Science Fiction forum, then consider signing up and asking for cards when they're available. You'll probably learn something about the Mego toys in the meantime, and we definitely need more Apes fans to offset the hordes of gibbering Doctor Who fans. OK, there are maybe six of them, but they're obnoxious.

Me neither. Oddly enough I do have one of the "MEGO wants you... to go
APE" posters. I hope to get some Megos someday though. That poster I
have should be the other way around. It should be a picture of me
saying "I want you" to a Mego ape!

Taylor finally communicates with Dr Zira…. And teaches her and her non-believing husband Cornelius the basics of aerodynamics, while Dr Zaius fears for his simian world and it's future in light of this "Ancient Astronaut" arrived from space and foretold of in the ancient writings and dark warnings of the Simian Scrolls…

-- Well the last episode heavily featured Brent & 'Skipper' (whom Mr. Hollweg has leaving Earth on New Years Eve, 1976, which seems a tad wrong to me!!) And I have just finished listening to this latest episode which has Ursus having a conversation with his 'old friend' Zaius!
FFS it's just getting completely stupid now but I'm sure there are still some people out there that think it is the most orgasmic thing ever (or at least will continue to unashamedly praise it.)

I suppose Brokensea had now better change their blurb: "Based on the novel by Pierre Boulle and original screenplay by Michael Wilson and Rod Serling" to also include Paul Dehn?

And one thing that really annoys me about this audio is the sound of footprints! Must be the most overused sound effect so far on this thing.

Anthony here. I've been taking screen grabs from Planet and piecing
them together to remove the actors. When I'm finished, they'll be
used as backgrounds for the new Mego Museum promo cards.

It's good to have you back, Michael.

As far as APES related things lately, I've watched PLANET/BENEATH, I've sent a MEGO fan a Dr. Zaius shirt for his figure, and I've just bought some resin MEGO sized APES heads to be painted and made into custom figures...

Chris here... nothing POTA except for AMC showing it last night. Baby is still too young (just hit the bg 1 last month) for alot of the POTA gear so I'm waiting on her too.

              Another worthy task.

Will it be a compilation of EVERY foreign cover or just what you can find?  Ie do you want fans to send you stuff where there’s gaps?

              *** I'm here...

As far as APES related things lately, I've watched PLANET/BENEATH, I've sent a MEGO fan a Dr. Zaius shirt for his figure, and I've just bought some resin MEGO sized APES heads to be painted and made into custom figures...

I have never seen a lot of these Neil – they are GREAT!

I really wish there was a book with all the POTA Production Art in it.

I wonder if it would be an idea to g one step further and make a book” out of these to place on Hunter’s site?

Chris here... nothing POTA except for AMC showing it last night. Baby is still too young (just hit the bg 1 last month) for alot of the POTA gear so I'm waiting on her too.

Well I’ve moved about 1200 miles North and it has been a LOT more difficult than I ever imagined it might be.

              Worth it though.

New job, new people, new house……etc.

Neil came over the other night for a movie night and he was inspired to watch the rest of HEROES (if only a POTA fan who could write like that would get inspired!).  Then on Friday night Neil and I finally sat sown and scripted something (with the help of Neil’s wife Meredith, a big fan of Stephen King!).

So Neil has something to keep him busy, and we have a good map of the new trilogy and the one to follow.

High res of ARGENTINIAN (El Planeta de Los Simios)

I have some MEXICAN (El Planeta de Los Simios) comics
but would like better scans and better issue ID I

any SPANISH (El Planeta de los Monos) comics....I
have 1, 4 and 5 of the "giant" collective issues but
need better scans of all regular issues as well as 2

you have these!? could you scan all you have for me?
and do you know if there were any other Spanish issues
besides the Barcelona ones? Were the Lisbon issues
              different?

              I have SWEDISH (Apornas Planet) issues 3 & 4 from 1975
              and 1-4 of 1976 so am looking for 1 & 2 from 75

I think I have all 17 AUSTRALIAN comics covered plus
the two un-numbered ones and the No. 1 reprint from
              1980

and I have the FINNISH (Apinoiden Planeetta) no.1 but
              believe there are three more

Yeah, a guy on the MEGO MUSEUM boards has made three of them so far, and i know there are a few more he's working on... They are not actual newly sculpted heads, rather they are a couple of the SIDESHOW and MEDICOM heads resized to be the same scale as the 8" MEGO APES line...\

I cannot provide pictures, as I have no camera, etc., BUT I've sent links to the pictures so hopefully you can see them that way... Here's the links:

              Hi Tim

I’d love to help, but the Argentinean comics I sent to Dave Ballard were never returned to me.

Dave would certainly have some awesome hi-res scans of these and I’m guessing he’d share.

Will you be including the Hungarian Monkey Planet Neil re-scripted?

Any ITALIAN (Il Pianeta delle Scimmie) comics --
              don't know how many issues

I have some MEXICAN (El Planeta de Los Simios) comics
but would like better scans and better issue ID I
              believe there are nine issues

I have two PORTUGUESE (Planeta dos Macacos) pics No.11
and another I can't make out I believe there are five
              total

any SPANISH (El Planeta de los Monos) comics....I
have 1, 4 and 5 of the "giant" collective issues but
need better scans of all regular issues as well as 2
and 3 of the giants I believe there are nine issues
in Vol. 1 and 29 issues in vol. 2.....JR, I think that
you have these!? could you scan all you have for me?
and do you know if there were any other Spanish issues
besides the Barcelona ones? Were the Lisbon issues
              different?

              I have SWEDISH (Apornas Planet) issues 3 & 4 from 1975
              and 1-4 of 1976 so am looking for 1 & 2 from 75

I think I have all 17 AUSTRALIAN comics covered plus
the two un-numbered ones and the No. 1 reprint from
              1980

and I have the FINNISH (Apinoiden Planeetta) no.1 but
              believe there are three more

Does anyone know of any other country that issues POTA
              comics?
Thanks for all your help in advance!

              Tim

We discussed what we wanted to do, then realised it’s about where we were headed with BEGINS.

              So we’ll be continuing BEGINS.

Unlike the other stories we did, it’s all our and we have actually planned it meticulously.

Going Home suffered because it was re-moulded from a story Ballard wrote.  I tried to save Neil’s fantastic future-scapes but when I tried to wrap the TV Show story I have wanted to tell around Ballard’s settings it came unstuck.  Great work from Neil though and I think we’d all agree that justifies a crap story!  J

We discussed Going Home and we are both quite proud of what we came up with….GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES!

In about 50 years when we complete BEGINS, I’ll plan with Neil the story I want to tell – from start to finish – and see if I can’t get him inspired to o a 3-part TV Show Comic.  I still think there are enough UK fans to make lots of sales with a TV Show comic (done right!).

              Michael

              Whitty,

I am just curious about what this trilogy is going to be?

Is it anything even remotely related to the brief story I sent to you (which, of course, was based on an outline you sent me?)

This here's just one of those weird phrases that stick in my brain. In the "Return to the POTA" cartoon Judy mentions Deming, New Mexico (I don't even remember the context) and, well, it's a location I haven't come across since...until today. They announced that Deming will be used as a location for "Indiana Jones 4", doubling for Morocco (the cheapskates). I guess Judy didn't make it up. Judy, Judy, Judy.  - - - Jeff

I'm here. I've been doing a clear-out of all my Apes stuff on my
computer and finding lots I'd forgotten about. I've added the rest
of my photos to the Production Art folder:

any SPANISH (El Planeta de los Monos) comics....I
have 1, 4 and 5 of the "giant" collective issues but
need better scans of all regular issues as well as 2
and 3 of the giants I believe there are nine issues
in Vol. 1 and 29 issues in vol. 2.....JR, I think that
you have these!? could you scan all you have for me?
and do you know if there were any other Spanish issues
besides the Barcelona ones? Were the Lisbon issues
                different?

                Whitty,

Yeah, a guy on the MEGO MUSEUM boards has made three of them so far, and i know there are a few more he's working on... They are not actual newly sculpted heads, rather they are a couple of the SIDESHOW and MEDICOM heads resized to be the same scale as the 8" MEGO APES line...\

I cannot provide pictures, as I have no camera, etc., BUT I've sent links to the pictures so hopefully you can see them that way... Here's the links:
