.htmlWell, I'm here. I actually mentioned POTA today at work to a co-worker I
was talking to. He was talking about taking his son to the zoo and how the
ape's section was his favorite. I told him it was mine too, that I loved
POTA when I was a young girl, and that I still had my POTA trash can, though
it's a little beat up. He said that was probably a collector's item.
That's right! I also told him my favorite stuffed animal as a child was my
stuffed monkey, George. I was crazy about POTA as a child, and obsessed
with Roddy McDowall!!

A little private
project I've had going recently is to collect all the fantastic John
Bolton artwork from the 3 UK POTA Annuals and remove the text and splice
together the double page spreads.
I've just uploaded
the first few pictures that I've finished working on, more will be added
when they're done.

Hello everyone
Just wanted to say hello to my fellow ape fans and I was thinking about having a conference with fellow POTA fans about what would be the future of apes films sometime next year at some
convention and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of "Planet of the Apes". Also I am working on my script. I would like to hear from fellow apes fans about this ideal about an ape convention.

A little private project I've had going recently
is to collect all the fantastic John Bolton artwork from the 3 UK
POTA Annuals and remove the text and splice together the double page spreads.
I've just uploaded the first few pictures that I've
finished working on, more will be added when they're done.

The next issue was to begin 20 years on in
a battle scene where “Urko” commands his troops.
It is revealed within the first few pages
that “Urko” is actually a chimpanzee. It soon becomes obvious
that chimp is a bitter old Galen, turned against humans after the death of his
mother and the slaying of his close friend Pete Burke.
Galen has been leading a devastating army
of apes trained to kill all humans.
Galen got his position by murdering Urko.
Neil has some very nice shots of “bad
ass Galen” he might share…Neil?
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Alan has
been located by his son and another 2 astros who were sent on the same mission
as Pete, Alan and Jonesy. Alan has been told his friends are dead and
only discovers Galen is alive at the conclusion of the story where Othello
meets Romeo and Juliet in a tragic and dramatic (and downer) conclusion.
My own story that I re-shaped had the 3
fugitives going to Texas
to find technology and discover Alan’s son & 2 new astros (who then
become the new POTA Human Main Characters). Makes more sense than Alan
disappearing in SF then reappearing in Texas !
Anyway – that’s most of
it. There’s some other cool things I won’t mention because we
are using them for BEGINS.
Hope you enjoy as they appear.
Michael

THis one?
I know many of these comics have the same art as the
US mags....but I still think it's interesting with the
change in text and little tweaks that happen.....like
this issue (see comparison of Spanish and US No.20)

================================================================
*** I've been wondering that myself. I don't remember, offhand, who
that group's Owner was, or Moderator, so I'll be damned if I can track
down whatever reason it is that it shut down.
In answer to Mike's question ["Patrick... where are you, dude?"], well,
I've been working on my POTA epic and, fairly recently, had posted some
stuff regarding my POTA scenario on that very APES FLICKS group in
response to questions regarding the Mendez dynasty, Zaius, etc.
If the owner of that now-defunct group is a member of this group, it'd
be nice to hear an explanation as to why it just disappeared into thin
air, like Taylor and those 11 gorilla Scouts...
Patrick
P.S. Those Bolton-art pics are terrific, btw. Thanks, Neil, for posting
them. And, too, those PLANET pre-production art pics (etc). Isn't it
interesting that one of 'em portrays a bare-chested female human?
Surely, they didn't think they'd be able to show that in a 1968 film
rated G...? Maybe it was wishful thinking on the part of the conceptual
artist? Also, the presence of those helicopters at the Hunt sure seems
to prove that audiences were intended to get the feel of it being not
so much a wild-animal Hunt as an armed invasion of "advanced" people
(the Apes) into territory inhabited by "primitives" (the Humans, as if
they are in Vietnam). In addition to helicopters (plural!) there are
several jeeps with gorilla soldiers mowing down humans with what looks
to be Machine Guns mounted in the jeeps. Sure as hell looks like War to
me, rather than a bunch of Good-ol-boys hunting game animals for
recreation. <.html

anyway). The first pictures are, I'm assuming the earliest production
ideas, with lots of detail on the spaceship interior and very
advanced apes. The later ones, starting with the pictures of the
three astronauts treking across the desert, are more like what was
actually depicted. So it's loosely in the order they might have been
drawn/revised.

like with issue 7 where the US version has the background rock and the gorilla

With this cover
they have, for some reason, got rid of the brain in a jar/bowl from the

orange cast, weird.
I wonder why they
would have done this and if there are any more 'doctored' covers apart from

Tim are you also after covers that have only
a tiny difference, like having a special sticker on them?
I ask because Newton Comics in Australia resorted to
getting their staff to collect latter,
unsold issues that were binned ready for destruction and put a sticker on
them claiming that they were 'Heritage Series Reprints' and then re-issued them
with a 20 percent
discount!
These are
very rare and I have only ever seen one example (which is the one I
have).
Here's
the top of the covers for issue 14 showing the sticker in
question:

Also, what

movie)?

Am sending this to all three groups as to spread the word...
I am
compiling pics OF JUST THE COVERS of all Foreign release (Non-US) POTA

It's here at last, the final issue in the nearly three year project to get all of the Marvel UK Planet of the Apes comics available online. This issue contains the final installment in the Future History
Chronicles storyline. Thanks to Hunter for hosting these and for putting up with my occasional nudging to get the next issue posted.
Thanks also to everyone who's posted their appreciation for our making these comics available.
Also available this week is the pressbook for Battle for the Planet of the Apes (thanks to James Aquila) and the start of a new section featuring the covers of foreign Apes comics. Thanks to Tim Parati for the Dutch
and German covers that are starting things off. Thanks,
Greg

As for the brain,

much trouble just to add the brain, it's so much easier to paint something

In answer to Mike's question ["Patrick... where are you, dude?"], well,
I've been working on my POTA epic and, fairly recently, had posted some
stuff regarding my POTA scenario on that very APES FLICKS group in
response to questions regarding the Mendez dynasty, Zaius, etc.
If the owner of that now-defunct group is a member of this group, it'd
be nice to hear an explanation as to why it just disappeared into thin
air, like Taylor
and those 11 gorilla Scouts...
Patrick
P.S. Those Bolton-art pics are terrific, btw. Thanks, Neil, for posting
them. And, too, those PLANET pre-production art pics (etc). Isn't it
interesting that one of 'em portrays a bare-chested female human?
Surely, they didn't think they'd be able to show that in a 1968 film
rated G...? Maybe it was wishful thinking on the part of the conceptual
artist? Also, the presence of those helicopters at the Hunt sure seems
to prove that audiences were intended to get the feel of it being not
so much a wild-animal Hunt as an armed invasion of "advanced" people
(the Apes) into territory inhabited by "primitives" (the Humans, as
if
they are in Vietnam). In addition to helicopters (plural!) there are
several jeeps with gorilla soldiers mowing down humans with what looks
to be Machine Guns mounted in the jeeps. Sure as hell looks like War to
me, rather than a bunch of Good-ol-boys hunting game animals for
recreation.

Neil, these look fantastic. When I scanned the annuals
for Kassidy's

so I know how difficult it is. I was never 100% satisfied with the
results I got, but these look absolutely amazing.

With this cover they have, for some reason, got rid of the
brain in a jar/bowl from the background, cropped the picture and changed the
colouring from a purple to the orange cast, weird.
I wonder why they would have done this and if there are
any more 'doctored' covers apart from these two?

It's here at last, the final issue in the nearly three year project to
get all of the Marvel UK Planet of the Apes comics available online. This issue
contains the final installment in the Future History Chronicles storyline.
Thanks to Hunter for hosting these and for putting up with my
occasional nudging to get the next issue posted.
Thanks also to everyone who's posted their appreciation for our making
these comics available.
Also available this week is the pressbook for
Battle for the Planet of the Apes (thanks to
James Aquila) and the start of a new section featuring the covers of foreign
Apes comics. Thanks to Tim Parati for the Dutch and German covers that are
starting things off.

Tim are you also after covers that have only a tiny difference, like
having a special sticker on them? I ask because Newton Comics in Australia
resorted to getting their staff to collect latter, unsold issues that were
binned ready for destruction and put a sticker on them claiming that they were
'Heritage Series Reprints' and then re-issued them with a 20 percent
discount!
These
are very rare and I have only ever seen one example (which is the one I
have).
Here's
the top of the covers for issue 14 showing the sticker in question:

.htmlThanks Neil...most I have are pretty damn nice...I
believe they were scanned by Terry of his excellent
copies...however I could use better scans of....
Issue 15 (Cornelius looking out spaceship)
Issue "19" (kingdom of the apes)
and the Giant Size 84 page annual which I JUST NOW
noticed that it says that across the top!
I have been touching up all the covers before I send
them to Hunter so a crease or mark or two is fine....
the 15 and 19 I have though are very difficult to
touch up.....and the annual pic I have is very small

I've just uploaded
a few more John Bolton pictures from the UK annuals. These were easy ones,
mostly just needing the removal of text. Still more to come
later!
