Sorta the same with me – I loved SW
but I think I was still into POTA because that only stopped in 1981 (I was
still a fan but entered the High School arena so money was for booze, pot and
chicks!).
I went to an ultra modern school in 1979
and 1980 where I could do projects on apes and POTA….pretty cool.

Funny
about Star Wars. I guess I was mostly over POTA by the time it came out but I
did wag school with a good mate to see it's first showing at a cinema in
Manchester and remember
being totally blown away by it. Then I went a bit Star Wars mental but it
never ended up becoming 'another Planet of the Apes'. I eventually 'came back'
to POTA but have never had any long running interest in Star Wars.
My kids though would take ANY Star Wars movie over any
Apes one. It's a crazy old world!

I guess I'd better hide

Just
uploaded another batch of illustrations from the illustrated French
edition of Monkey planet to the files section.
I like #17, the chimps remind me of the old PG Tips

on?"... "No Ethel, but you hum a few bars and I'll join in...

Technically
it's not a graphic novel. From what I've heard its a short novel with
illustrations. A graphic novel is a very, very long comic book.

Well it is a GRAPHIC novel too and supposedly includes illustrations by
some big comic book artists, so that could give it dual appeal.

Thanks for your email! My
company, BLAM! Ventures, LLC, is a multimedia company specializing in the
comic book/graphic novel industry and digital media. Our 'Lost Tribes' imprint
looks to revive many classic science fiction and fantasy movies and television
shows of the '60s, '70s and '80s with a fresh approach and a reverent hand,
touching the audiences of today's generation, while reacquainting previous
fans with old friends.
;
BLAM!'s first Planet of the Apes project,
officially licensed by FOX Broadcasting, isn't a comic book but is an
over-sized illustrated novel titled Conspiracy of the Planet of the
Apes. It's story set during the first movie and centers on
the Astronaut Landon and Chimpanzee scientist Dr. Milo. The novel is written
by me with my two creative partners, contains over 20 full color "paintings"
(digital and traditional) from various top talent in the industry and will be
in all the bookstores in the Spring of 2010.
While the first draft has been
approved by FOX, we are still working out some de
tails. Therefore, this
project is still confidential and we have not yet made an official press
release. (Feel free to drop hints to others that there is a "project" in the works
though.) We will be making the official announcement just prior to San
Diego Comic Con and will be displaying art from the book
there.
I would love to become a member of
your discussion board, and would like to talk to you about increasing POTA's
web presence in general. Perhaps you or a member of your group would be
interested in facilitating the uniting of message boards and creation of
resource web sites in order to beef up POTA's internet appeal. Feel free
to email me or contact me at the number below.

I look forward to hearing from

In my collection is every Star Trek comic book published between 1967 and the present. It's a whole lot'a comics.
These are sitting next to my DVD boxsets of all 30 TV seasons and 10 films.

Thanks Neil! I like the look of the cover! Amazing that you still have the clear jacket intact! when was the book published?

Here you go Tim,
one is a scan of the cover on the book and the other is just the clear cover
(which shows up how dirty my scanner lid is!).
Neil T. Foster
would love to see a scan of that if you don't mind! and any more
illustrations would be great to see too!

There is a dust
jacket but it is clear plastic with just the titles printed in white on it,
very unusual.

They are really interesting Neil, thanks! I like the particular focus
on Nova! Looks like Brigette Bardot! Is that last blue pic the only cover
photo? Was there a dust jacket?

I have just uploaded a few of the
illustrations from a French hardback 1971 Edition of La Planete des Singes, illustr
ated
by Jacques Pecnard.
I have been cleaning up my computer and came across
the folder with these in and remembered saying ages ago that I would share
them with the group. For some reason I never got around to it but better
late than never!
There's still quite a few of them to go so if
anyone wants me to upload the rest just say so and I'll be happy to do
so.
Cheers,

Just uploaded
another batch of illustrations from the illustrated French edition of
Monkey planet to the files section.
I like #17, the
chimps remind me of the old PG Tips adverts - "Hey Stan do you know the Human

I like ST.
I’m over the Original Series
(Trekked out on it as a kid!).
TNG started poorly but by season 2/3 it
was perfect, and I enjoyed DS9. Voyager is my all time favourite by a country
mile.
Neil and I watched the Blu-Ray of the
first movie a couple of weeks ago and found it almost unwatchable! It has “enhanced”
FX but just looked dumb and fake – another case of the HD format showing
too many scars!

Yes...yes, it would.
In my collection is every Star Trek comic book published between 1967 and the
present. It's a whole lot'a comics.
These are sitting next to my DVD boxsets of all 30 TV seasons and 10 films.
And my wife is a saint for not leaving me.

Outer space,
different planets and aliens.

What key points does star wars and star trek have
that POTA doesnt?
this could make an interesting
discussion!
There are four reasons that kids love Star Wars, space battles,
spaceships aliens and
rollicking adventures. Kids love seeing spaceships like the Millenium
Falcon, X-Wing fighters and Tie-Fighters, kids love
them,

I loved those ads
growing up, funny talking chimps, what's not to like! Maybe that's why
people in the UK accepted talking apes on TV better than they did in the
US, familiarity?
North finally made

Thanks Neil! I like the look of the cover! Amazing that you still have
the clear jacket intact! when was the book published?

Here you go Tim,
one is a scan of the cover on the book and the other is just the clear cover
(which shows up how dirty my scanner lid is!).

would love to see a scan of that if you don't mind! and any more
illustrations would be great to see too!

There is a
dust jacket but it is clear plastic with just the titles printed in white on
it, very unusual.

They are really interesting Neil, thanks! I like the particular focus
on Nova! Looks like Brigette Bardot! Is that last blue pic the only
cover photo? Was there a dust jacket?

I have just uploaded a few of the
illustrations from a French hardback 1971 Edition of La Planete des Singes, i
llustrated
by Jacques Pecnard.
I have been cleaning up my computer and came
across the folder with these in and remembered saying ages ago that I
would share them with the group. For some reason I never got around to it
but better late than never!
There's still quite a few of them to go so if
anyone wants me to upload the rest just say so and I'll be happy to do
so.
Cheers,

My house is full of props. Not originals,
except for the place mat from Ari's Kitchen.
But the replicas are accurate and inexpensive.
Many are molded from the original and are exact
duplicates. I doubt anyone would know the difference.

battle of the planets, and maybe I see about handful of apes, the only problem
that ape fans have is that we are not organized, and the other fans clubs are.
That is the reason why ape fans are not organized.

in a reply to T! It's from 1971 Tim. I wonder if it's the only illustrated

Thanks Neil! I like the look of the cover! Amazing that you still have
the clear jacket intact! when was the book published?

one is a scan of the cover on the book and the other is just the clear cover

would love to see a scan of that if you don't mind! and any more

There is a

it, very unusual.

I have just uploaded a few of the
illustrations from a French hardback 1971 Edition of La Planete des Singes, illustr

by Jacques Pecnard.
I have been cleaning up my computer and came
across the folder with these in and remembered saying ages ago that I
would share them with the group. For some reason I never got around to it
but better late than never!
There's still quite a few of them to go so if
anyone wants me to upload the rest just say so and I'll be happy to do
so.
Cheers,

Kevin I've only been to two conventions (small ones). Those other groups of fans you have mentioned--are they grouped together as a team and move together through the convention like an organized team? It
would be good to see an organized group of apes. The Forum of the Apes have something going over there on that side of the pond. At least you have seen some apes. I never have. I have yet to see another ape
that is not looking back at me in my mirror.

.htmlit's the storylines that separates Star Wars and POTA, kids attention span
is as limited in what's in front of them, a couple of explosions, and spaceship
flying across the screen, and some narly aliens and kids are hypnotized very
quickly, storyline from POTA is too complcated for kids and get bored very
fast, have a kid explain Star Wars, they know it , some kids couldn't explain
POTA if they watch the movie and they still can't explain it.
That is my opinion, care to comment.

That's why when I wrote my screenplay,
though it had a couple of talking apes,
sort of, it was a small aspect of a larger
story that did include aliens, spaceships
etc . . . I think the only way you're going
to do a real POTA remake is to make it
adult all the way, not X rated, but certainly
R. Otherwise it has to be a full Sci-Fi
flick with all the trappings. Apes alone
won't hold a modern audiences attention.
Not unless it has ultra violence and a lot
of forced mating and sexual innuendo.
Including sexual tension between the two
main characters that makes many balk.
A few furtive glances and a bare-assed
scene just is not shocking anymore.

I think the swiftness of the 4 sequels did
some damage too.
It was obvious to most by
BATTLE that FOX wasn’t trying to revere
the POTA name, they were trying to make a (CHEAP!) buck and the TV Series was
sparse in budget (well, compared to what it really NEEDED) too.
I think it was obvious to most other than
we very young, die hard fans that the cow’s udder was dry.

Zoo evacuated after chimps escape
Sun Jul 5, 4:01 pm ET
LONDON (AFP) –
A zoo was evacuated on Sunday after about 30 chimpanzees escaped from their enclosure.
The animals escaped from 'Chimp Island' and found their way into a keeper area where their food is prepared, the zoo said.
More than 5,000 visitors were asked to leave Chester Zoo
, near Liverpool, shortly after the break-out as keepers rounded up the chimps.
"In the interests of public safety Chester Zoo was evacuated today,
Sunday 5th July, as a precautionary measure. This decision was taken
due to an escape of chimpanzees from Chimp Island into a keeper area,"
the zoo said.
In a statement, it apologised for the disappointment caused to guests
and offered to provide a refund or free future visit to the zoo.
The zoo has more than 7,000 animals. According to its website, it is
visited by more than 1.3 million people each year and has been named by
Forbes magazine as one of the best 15 zoos in the world.

Just a preemptive strike here . . .
No no one here gets to read it.
If it ever gets made you can go
see it in the theater like everyone
else. Not trying to be mean about
it. But there's little enough support
here without throwing myself to the
vultures as it were. So no previews.

But there wasn't much to compare it to back
then, except maybe James Bond. It wasn't until "Empire Strikes Back" that Lucas
showed you could spend more and keep your audience. Treat a sequel like a real
movie, not just a quick buck, and it would make sense people would come back to
something they liked in the first place. Before that it was just a given that a
sequel would make less. Lucas invented the "movie franchise" as we know it today
and he did only because he spent his own money.
But I think POTA was innovative in showing
you could advance a story in a sci-fi sequel. A sequel didn't have to be the
same story over. And of course Lucas was inspired by POTA and took it to the
next level.

I think the swiftness
of the 4 sequels did some damage too.
It was obvious to
most by BATTLE that FOX wasnt trying to revere the POTA
name, they were trying to make a (CHEAP!) buck and the TV Series was sparse in
budget (well, compared to what it really NEEDED) too.
I think it was
obvious to most other than we very young, die hard fans that the cows udder
was dry.

During
the 70's Apes was the only game in town, space before SW did not have
the fantastic special effects or cute creatures, only 2001 had good special
effects, but wasn't even close to Apes. Talking apes was great sci-fi stuff
in the late 60's to early 70's, until the late 70's when SW and a new
version ST came out. Just take a look at Star Wars, 5 sequels, an animated
tv series and movie and a new tv series, Star Trek has about 10 movies, 4
or 5 tv series and is the number 1 top ten summer film. I could go on about
the toys and Lego land Star Wars stuff, is there a current play set
for POTA?
I am not knocing Apes, I love apes, the problem is that most
kids love space ships, cute alien creatures and fantasic special
effects.

POTA and 2001 came out at about the same time, and
both relied upon the technique of deep sleep to accomplish long space travels.
I saw them both at a drive-in back then. I can't remember films using
hibernation before that, but then, I was about 8 years old. Does anyone know
when hibernation debuted as a sci-fi film phenomenon?

Hello guys,
I've been off the grid for some months. I had spinal herniation, and went under
delicate surgery on June 22th, 2009. The intervention was very successful.. .
now I need time (months) to recover from my intervention.
Anyway, I had a big surprise which made my day, literally.
Indeed, the Apelines will be issued on 'APE CHRONICLES' #46 and 47. Thank you,
Terry, you rule.
I just hope Terry fixed some blatant grammar errors. English is not my main
language.
Oh ----- and I'm still undecided if Caesar's "cover"/cililian name is
"SALOMON" or "SOLOMON". Lol.
On the other hand, I missed my Ape fanbase. You're wonderful persons. Truly.
The nicest fanbase in the world. I had big problems with all the other
fanbases.

That was new...and, really, doesn't make a whole lot of sense, in my opinion. Why would a guy abandon his newborn baby, just to go to space? No matter how selfless the video tries to make it sound, it
just seems incredibly selfish to me, particularly since it was intended as a one-way trip, so Earth wasn't going to know what he discovered anyway.
Also he said Alpha Centauri. Dodge mentions
