.html*** The author says something like "A new film is definitely called for
here. Maybe the new film 'The Secret of the POTA' will provide the answers:"...
Before he said that, he said there's a lot of room for more films, etc...
I'm thinking since he was speculating on what could be done within the
context of APES, he should have said "a new film would provide the answers"...
Regardless of what he meant, I think it was all a case of wishful thinking...

.htmlHi all,
I'm new here (actually, been a lurker for sometime now),
I've read this post and read evryones answers.
My personal conclusion is...
This film has absolutely nothing to do with the Quitilogy (5 original films) except maybe (a big MAYBE), with the first 2 films "POTA" and "BTPOTA"...
My thoughts are, that they are doing the same thing that JJ Abrams did with "Star Trek", a new alternate timeline, with ferther change.
A new begining. Instead of time traveling back thru time, and Ceazar changing how the apes are in this time line. They change the apes thru genetic alterations.
That (to me) means, "Escape...", "Conquest..." and "Battle..." will kept as the original timeline, and "Rise" and any movie that comes after it, will be kept as the altered
timeline.
(Or all of last 3 movies, "Escape...", "Conquest..." and "Battle..." will be thrown out the window).
There was some one (don't remember who at the moment) that fit the "2008 POTA" into the story (in his own version of the POTA universe. And actualy xtended the story even farther than 3955.
But simply, I can't see any way of conecting "Rise..." to the original "Planet of the Apes Quintilogy ".

would make IT the new "Conquest", while "Rise" is more like "Escape". Apes don't land from the future, but it's about one ape (Caesar) interacting with the humans. Amanda Silver,
the writer, said there's a lot of heart, and I think that description fits "Escape". >SPOILER< And the film literally climaxes with an escape, not a conquest. Like "Escape", the movie will
be more intimate and show how things get started. And it happens that 2011 is the 40th anniversary of "Escape", so it all fits.

======== Well.... I think this will be getting abit "off topic", but I'll answer your rebutle anyhoos. hehe
If you are going to use the DC universe as an example, you have to look at the origins of the whole (the comix themselves).
How many times, and in who many comix and grafic novels and even in "Smallville" TV series do we see different Super Heroes come together in the same place? That is totaly canonical, and it is in the same
universe and timeline.
You and I may not like it, but it still doesn't change the fact that they are from the same timeline and universe.
Now with that said...
I did read the guys story (not realy a story, but more a cronology of the events), and wasn't bad, I kinda liked it.
But that's another story...
My main point when I wrote my statement in the prior post was...
They (the writers) did the same thing that JJ Abrams did with "Star Trek". And honestly... It throws the whole POTA movies series off wack, but that's just my opinion, and such is life....
I'll definately watch it and enjoy it, just because I love Sci-Fi.! hehehe

=========I agree with it being it's own franchise.
But in my (personal) view...
I will still see it as a new/altered timeline...
Let's just wait and see where they'll take us on these new adventures.
Maybe in the other up and coming movies, they'll change my mind about it being a new/altered timeline, and I'll look at them as
totally new movies/universe.
Till then, to me, it's just an altered timeline...

Jon Favreau talked to the L.A. Times about his
fears of the 2011 summer movie season. Favreau directed the popular "Iron Man"
movies and has the western/sci-fi hybrid "Cowboys and Aliens" coming
out then (with the interesting combination of Harrison Ford and Daniel "Bond.
James Bond" Craig). He says of Summer 2011, "It's Omaha Beach, it's going to be
a blood bath. There's NEVER been a summer like next summer". Favreau also
predicts the demise of the DVD business in a few years.
So, even if "Rise of the Apes" rocks (the article
describes it as "a wild card") it will be an uphill battle to get the audience
we want to ensure sequels.

And I finally found.
It's here in the groups file section (of all places. lol)...
Here; http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/PotaDG/files/
The name of the file is;
apes-story-line-fixed.pdf 86 KB munkeyman63au Apr 2, 2007
It's the first .PDF file when you scroll down the files page.
Not a bad read at all.
Read it, see if you like it, ou dislike it.
Then, give your thoughts on it.

And to me, it'll still be it's own thing... Boulle's book is not the PLANET
film(s), RETURN is it's own take on the name, etc. Just because they have
some similarities doesn't make them connected, at least not in my book... If

Summer 2011 may be a "blood bath", but "Rise of
the Apes" only has to worry about it's own acre. Who will it go up
against?
June 17: The weekend before "Rise", uh, rises,
"The Green Lantern" shines his light. Will he be a juggernaut or be extinguished
fairly quickly?
June 24: "Rise of the Apes" vs. "Cars
2"
July 1st: "Transformers 3" and the Tom Hanks/Julia
Roberts vehicle "Larry Crowne" (Hanks goes back to school but he's no Rodney
Dangerfield)
July 8: "Zookeeper" (a big Kevin James comedy that
sounds kinda "Dr. Dolittle"; animals help their zookeeper find
love)
July 15: By the time the final "Harry Potter" and
the "Winnie the Pooh" movie come out, "Rise of the Apes" ' fate will pretty much
be written. <.html <.html

| Subject: OT: "Terra Nova", from "Rise of the Apes" producer Peter Chernin |
.html
.html
Peter Chernin was a very big cheese at 20th
Century Fox and then it's parent company News Corp. Indeed, he was # 2 behind
the mighty founder Rupert Murdoch. He left in 2009 when it was obvious he
didn't have any further to go (Murdoch's children will inherit the top
spots in the company). As part of his "golden parachute" Chernin was guaranteed
a minimum number of movies as a producer. Among the projects he inherited was
the new POTA . Thus "Rise of the Apes" is the first movie that will be released
from his new production company Chernin Entertainment.
But beating "Apes" to the punch is Chernin's
first TV show. He's co-producing the show "Terra Nova" with Steven Spielberg.
It's about people in the dying world of 2149 who have the technology to go back
to the prehistoric past (dinosaurs!) and start over. Kinda sounds like "Avatar"
in reverse, and even has "Avatar" 's Stephen Lang (the crazy Patton dude) in the
cast. It follows a family who is part of one of the expeditions ("Land of the
Lost", anyone?). Anyway, it's a fairly ambitious series and shows that Chernin
wants to make a big splash as a producer, an attitude that might also be part of
the equation of "Rise of the Apes". Though some might not be thrilled with a
"suit" as a producer. The pilot for "Terra Nova" is scheduled for May 2011,
a month before "Rise", and then the series will begin Fall 2011.

It has a fairly decent telling of the development of the movie too. Speaking of which, I was in touch with Louise Huebner, widow of Mentor Huebner and custodian of his art works. Mentor made the conceptual designs for
the original movie, and according to Louise, Mentor worked with Arthur Jacobs pretty much from day one and she knows nothing of any other artists involved. She also says she has many more concept drawings from POTA that
have never been made public. Yet.

Forget 3-D TV. The future is about to arrive and
it's holographic, man! "They're" reportedly turning the corner on holographic
video and it should be in homes in about a decade, just in time for the
conclusion of the new "Rise of the Apes" movie franchise. So who here will be
the first to get the complete POTA "Apethology" in holographic blu-ray?

Hi, first post to this group.
I have to say that when I read "It is just a dream" when referring to Leo's landing on Earth to be faced with a statue of Aperaham Lincoln in Burton's Apes, I began to lose interest. Such a cheap
shoehorning in to "fix" a problem... I also didn't care for saying that the Oberon landed on Earth instead of another planet, as it did in the film it comes from. Some of it seems OK, but I just find it
like "fixing" a jigsaw puzzle by hammering any of the pieces together and hoping that you get something approximating the dimensions of the finished article: it gets messy and you lose the picture.
I suppose I'm being harsh, considering the effort put in, but I generally found myself coming to the conclusion that the "fixing" is worse than just allowing the different films (Burton's and the
original set) to be set in different universes.
BTW, thanks, though, for finding this, though. I'll probably give it another read later on. Maybe it gets better on rereads. ;)

one big piece... They can say "altered timeline" all they want, but it's just
nonsensical to me... You can only take that so far before it gets too
friggin ridiculous...
To me, the movies and the live action TV series are in the same "universe"
(but I can see where people would NOT count the TV series in with the films,
as they may see the TV show as its own "universe")... To me, the events of
ESCAPE start an new (altered) timeline, but it's still all within the same
universe...
I do NOT include RETURN in with any of it, just like I wouldn't put
Burton's film in it, and I'm already counting on ROTA being its own take on the
APES name... I see nothing wrong with different sub-groups of the APES name
being their own thing... ***

This is a segment of "The Fabulous Picture Show"
from 4/19/08 that happens to show Rupert Wyatt talking about his first film "The
Escapist" (with generous clips) and Andy Serkis talking about acting the CG
characters Gollum and King Kong. Two years later Wyatt and Serkis would be
brought together as, respectively, the director and Caesar for "Rise of the
Apes".

The apes aren't the only ones "rising". The
revealed title for the anticipated next Batman film is "The Dark Knight
Rises". So POTA beat Bats to the punch, though Fox has officially said that
"Rise of the Apes" is only a "tentative" title (until they call it "POTA
Rises"). While we're at it, other Batman tidbits are that the director says the
villain won't be the speculated Riddler (or a recast Joker). Word is there are
two central female roles (maybe Catwoman?). And definitely no 3D (but the
director's love of filming in IMAX will continue). I'll admit I love the new
"Batman" flicks and it's great that Christopher Nolan has shown you don't have
to water down the darkness of a franchise to get a big audience.
Probably the new "Batman" flicks can be credited
as much as anything for the "rise" of prequel mania. Why not? Just "start over"
and make $ 1 billion on # 2. Batman and POTA share a certain history. The
"Batman" TV show was another pop sensation in the late '60's and had plenty of
POTA guest stars including Linda Harrison and Roddy. Of course, Tim Burton got
his hands on both. We'll see if POTA can be resurrected post-Burton as well as
Mr. Wayne has.

|
.html
I thought I might throw another curve into the discrepancy between landing dates attributed to Planet and Beneath. I've always tended to accept the year 3978 as the canon and all further
efforts to have been a continuity error. What if however both were wrong? After Taylor delivers his soliloquy during the intro of Planet he indicates that within 1 hour they will have completed 6 months in flight. With
a ships date of Jul 14th 1972 that indicates a launch on Jan 14th, 1972. The contemporary earthtime at that point is Mar 24th, 2673. In other words 701 yrs, 2 months and 10 days have elapsed during this six month
period. Taylor enters suspended animation and when the ship crashes all we are offered is a glimpse at the earthtime, Nov 25th, 3978, but not the corresponding ship time. For two reasons we can assume that another full
year has passed while Taylor slept. In a conversation between Taylor and Landon, Landon chides Taylor for his lack of remorse in the death of Stewart. Taylor retorts that she's been dead nearly a year and Landon
concludes they've been away from earth for eighteen months. That would point to a subjective shiptime of Jul 14th 1973. Taylor already knew before entering his sleep cycle that Hasslein's theory was correct and
that he was about to sleep for another year. Before falling asleep he should have expected to awake around August of 4075. This is based on tripling the 701 yr, 2 mon, 10 day elapsed time observed before he enters
sleep. This assumes that time passes smoothly while traversing the Hasslein curve. Taylor reads the earthtime before escaping the Icarus (which I prefer over Liberty 1). Later while crossing the forbidden zone Taylor
tells Landon they've been away from earth "20 centuries, give or take a decade". Given the discrepancy between Taylor's expectation and the recorded earthtime Taylor may have accepted a fairly broad
margin of error in the chronograph, broader in fact than his flippant "give or take a decade". Even attributing a mere ten year margin of error in both Taylor's vessel and that of Skipper Maddox's then
Taylor's arrival could be as early as 3968 while Maddox's arrival could be as late as 3965, a significantly smaller gap. <.html

Forget Christmas; it's beginning to look a lot
like Summer 2011.
There's the "Green Lantern", which opens a week
before "Apes". There's already a poster and a teaser trailer:
And the studio even sent out "power rings" to
certain folks who run web sites:
There's also a teaser trailer for "Cars 2", which
opens opposite "Apes":
Not to mention "Harry Potter", which as you know
opens tonight at 12:01 midnightish and is already being predicted to make $ 130
million this weekend. That's the best kind of publicity. The final flick opens
next summer a couple of weeksish after "Apes".
So when will Fox beat their chest like a gorilla
and get with the program? I want my teaser trailer! And an announcement on who
is doing the music. And it better be someone good. FOX!

I'm in no hurry.
Before you know it we'll all be discussing how the movie went a year from now.
Time flies as did Burton's version ten years ago.
So just enjoy the moment while it's still here.

"Harry Potter" had his best opening ever this
weekend, an estimated $ 125 million. So it doesn't look good for "Rise of the
Apes" to beat it next summer. Even after almost a decade of flicks, interest has
not waned (Wane's World! Wane's World!). But congrats to "Harry" and "Rise" star
Tom Felton. <.html <.html

Saw it today. A tad bit slow pased but I enjoyed it.
I'm sure the second and final film will be better and much more intense.
Also saw the trailer to "Green Lantern."
That's going to be really good.

Interesting story!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Dianne-Stanley-RARE-signed-Planet-Apes-8x10-POTA-/250724709911?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a605b7617#ht_602wt_1139
Dianne Stanley EXTREMLY
RARE
signed Planet of the Apes
photo 8x10.
If you have found this listing then you
probably know she is impossible to find and I have seen no one who has found
her with the exception of me. So you have to believe me that I did find her or
not. For those who might ask, this is how I did it. (I have no problem sharing
it with you because if you want to try and do it yourself good luck, it took
years). Also if you are wondering why I’m selling something so rare,
it’s simple, kids and Xmas, need I say more? So if this sells it might be
your only chance to ever get one, if it doesn’t it might still be your
last chance because I may never list it again.
…I spent several years looking for
her and had absolutely no luck whatsoever. I figured she left Hollywood
and got married
and with a new last name there would be no way to ever find her, so I quit.
Then after a friend inspired me to keep trying (he collects POTS too) I came up
with a new game plan, I tried to find people who may have known her. I tried
several websites and finally started reaching out to people from Southern
California through such sites as Classmates.com and others (oh and this is how
I found Jack O’Halloran from Superman 2, he was Non, this was a favor I
did for Bob and Lou who sold autographs and supplied people for the Chiller show
in NJ, they had tried for years and failed to find him, he was living in
Ireland) and finally I did find someone who knew her, she forwarded my info to
her and I got a call from Diana her self, at first I wasn’t sure, could
have been anyone really but this was years ago now and IMDB wasn’t as
good as it was now, and what she told me surprised me. POTA was not her only
role, she had been an extra on Bad Girls for the Boys and Speedway .
Only she didn’t spell her name with two n’s only one and went by
Diana. A check of it then showed what she said was true, now Diane, Dianne and
Diana are overlapped on IMDB. But back then they weren’t so I felt
comfortable that I had indeed found her. She was never sure how the spelling
with 2 n’s happened as she was unaccredited.
She thought it was funny that I had tried
so hard to find her as she didn’t think her role amounted to anything,
she basically only played a corpse, but she agreed to sign a hand full of
photos for me, she gave me her address I sent them, she signed them and that
was that. I have had them ever since, a couple have been sold, and a couple
have been given to close collecting friends but these are it. I have tried to
mail her since to see if I could get more or get her to at least sign something
a little better then the black and white photos I sent, but my mail has come
back return to sender.
So these are it, I don’t even know
if she is alive or has moved. I can’t find any record of her through
online searches of phone books or through people searches. And I didn’t
bother to keep the name of the person I used to find her, a mistake, but
I’m not going through the extra work to re-find them either to just to be
greedy.
So that is the story, these are real and
RARE ,
the price I have listed is fair in my opinion. Please note I put the spelling
of her name as it appears on IMDB and other POTA websites but it’s
autographed as she signs her name Diana. She also added Stewart and POTA which
I think makes it all the better.

so perhaps the POTS references were typos.
But asking for $275 is nuts. Even if true, it's totally unverifiable.
And lets not forget that she was only onscreen for a few seconds.

Yes I’m not convinced just by the

It would be great to track this actress

likely a tall story…

Here's a pretty long interview with Tom Felton
where he talks about "Rise of the Apes" (twice). Pretty much old ground, though
he does say seeing Andy Serkis act as Caesar is "really, really scary", even
scarier than Voldemort (the "Potter" villain). And he notes that instead of
"Avatar", where the characters enter a CG world, this is bringing the CG ape
characters into the real world.

That's some good detective work! Your 4075 estimate does make sense, but now I think about it, if the ship had passed through some kind of time disturbance (rather than just drifting for
2,000 years), would the equipment still work. How would the clock still be able to accurately guage the comparative Earth time if it had 'jumped'? Maybe, just maybe, the disturbance happened when the ship
reached 3978 - or 19 20ths (I think) of it's intended journey, then stopped as a result of the jump? Then the Earth clock would have stopped about 2 or 3 weeks too soon, is that right? And then the movie could be
set any time at all really. My head hurts.

14th 1972 that indicates a launch on Jan 14th, 1972. The contemporary earthtime at that point is Mar 24th, 2673. In other words 701 yrs, 2 months and 10 days have elapsed during this six month period. Taylor enters
suspended animation and when the ship crashes all we are offered is a glimpse at the earthtime, Nov 25th, 3978, but not the corresponding ship time. For two reasons we can assume that another full year has passed while
Taylor slept. In a conversation between Taylor and Landon, Landon chides Taylor for his lack of remorse in the death of Stewart. Taylor retorts that she's been dead nearly a year and Landon concludes they've
been away from earth for eighteen months. That would point to a subjective shiptime of Jul 14th 1973. Taylor already knew before entering his sleep cycle that Hasslein's theory was correct and that he was about to
sleep for another year. Before falling asleep he should have expected to awake around August of 4075. This is based on tripling the 701 yr, 2 mon, 10 day elapsed time observed before he enters sleep. This assumes that
time passes smoothly while traversing the Hasslein curve. Taylor reads the earthtime before escaping the Icarus (which I prefer over Liberty 1). Later while crossing the forbidden zone Taylor tells Landon they've
been away from earth "20 centuries, give or take a decade". Given the discrepancy between Taylor's expectation and the recorded earthtime Taylor may have accepted a fairly broad margin of error in the
chronograph, broader in fact than his flippant "give or take a decade". Even attributing a mere ten year margin of error in both Taylor's vessel and that of Skipper Maddox's then Taylor's arrival
could be as early as 3968 while Maddox's arrival could be as late as 3965, a significantly smaller gap.

This is something that has always bothered me. The thing is the chronograph that measures earthtime is aboard ship and subject to the same
relativistic shifts as the ship and occupants. The only way it could approximate earthtime with any degree of accuracy is if the Hasslein curve had been programme in before take-off. What also didn't make sense was
Taylor directing Landon to send out a signal to Earth that they had landed. As radio signals travel at light speed they should be subject to a relativistic shift, such as Einsteins relativity or a Hasslein curve. As
such the message Taylor send out before entering sleep in 2673 shouldn't be expected to reach back to Earth before 3374.

Subject: OT: Marc Singer returning to "V"
ABC's reboot of "V" will be a big old class
reunion when it returns to the air in January. They've already announced that
Jane Badler, who played the main baddie in the original series, will have a
recurring role as the mom of the new baddie. Now it looks like Marc Singer, the
star of the original show, will also return as a resistance fighter.
What this has to do with anything is that Singer
played Dalton in the POTA episode "The Gladiator". Maybe some of the POTA fans
went on to follow him in "V" or as "The Beastmaster". He's continued to work but
has had a lower profile than those days. I never did follow the "V" series but
loved the original miniseries with it's Nazi allegory. I've enjoyed this new
version, though it could use a shot of better writing and some subtlety.
Hopefully they've worked on that. But the cast is great so I'm rooting for it,
especially with Singer back on board.

| Subject: POTA on "Hollywood Treasures" |
.html
.html
On Dec. 1st the Sy Fy channel series "Hollywood
Treasures" had an episode that included a trip to Ed Gogin's house to check out
his POTA collection. He started by wanting one costume of every ape. He had a
small but sweet collection of costumes. They looked at his gorilla costume,
which included ammo belt, club and boots. The host said it's rare to see
ape costumes complete and original and speculated such a costume could bring
$20,000 - $30,000 now, whereas they used to go for $1,000. They also looked at
his orangutan costume, which had the glyphs and orang boots. He also had some
pullover masks (presumably from the movies). The host estimated his clubs could
go for $ 5,000 each, an ape rifle for $5,000 - $10,000 because "they just don't
exist (anymore)". Gogin's collection was estimated at $
100,000.
In his yard he had the Lawgiver statue that
was owned by Arthur Jacobs and then his widow Natalie until the late '90's. He
bought it from her. A copy was made for Jacobs' pal Sammy Davis Jr. but this was
the only full-sized Lawgiver used on screen. The point of the show is to find
stuff and auction it (for the famous "Profiles in History" auctions). The host
said getting the Lawgiver and putting it on the cover of the auction catalog was
a holy grail. He estimated the Lawgiver at $100,000 - $200,000. Gogin had outbid
Fox 12 years ago, who wanted to put it in their archive. Gogin had a
uncomfortable look on his face as he heard how much this stuff could go for, I
guess because his wife is pressuring him to sell, but he opted not to. So that's
where the Lawgiver stayed (Orange County, CA.).
The host said, "Items from POTA are highly
collected. Everything from that movie sells for really good prices". Of course,
he added the new movie is making the items even more "hot".
