| Subject: thoughts on the "Dawn" blu-ray |
.html
.html
It's been a week since the "Dawn" blu-ray came
out so I guess it's time to take a look under the hood. I'll just say I love
extras on DVD/blu-ray. A decade ago when DVD was hot they were all the rage. But
ultimately it became the same old thing: people in front of green screens/ads
for the movies. So people lost interest (those that had it) and since these
things cost money, extras have been weeded out lately. "Dawn" has about 2 hours
of extras, counting the trailers, which is a rarity these days. So I think it's
worth the dough just for that. So let's see what we get.
Matt Reeves commentary: I love commentaries if
the person doing it is good. We get a stream of consciousness that includes
stuff you won't get in the usual press. Reeves knows what a movie commentary
should be: watch the movie and comment on what it took to make that scene. It's
not, "Oh, there's so and so. She was nice". Or reiterate what we're watching on
screen: "He's lifting that because otherwise the enemy would see him". Reeves
gives good commentary.
Among the stuff I found interesting (as someone
who followed the promo interviews and stuff):
Reeves did conceive the opening hunt as a play on
"2001: A Space Odyssey". I remember when "Dawn of the POTA" was announced as the
title, back before Reeves was even a glimmer in POTA's eyes that it reminded me
of the "Dawn of Man" sequence in "2001" (considering "Rise" director Rupert
Wyatt was a Kubrick fan who compared "Rise" to "Sparticus"). It's just fun to
see Reeves take that full force, including 2001ish music in that scene. The hunt
scene also reminds me (though no has mentioned this) of the hunt in the original
POTA. One could imagine at the start of the scene that they are going to hunt
humans (but they are hunting antelope). Nice foreshadowing (as it was when
Caesar "hunted" the neighbor in "Rise"). Reeves also notes that chimps hunt in
packs, which wuz an inspiration for this scene.
Reeves gives a shout out to "Project Nim" as an
inspiration for the sign language in the film.
Reeves compares the ape society to "The
Godfather".
He sees the ape society as reminding of those in
director Akira Kurosawa's films.
First shot of Gary Oldman a direct lift from the
first shot in "The Searchers". Sees the story as a Western.
All these classic references were a way to ground
the dazzling new FX.
The bulk of the ape shots came in the last 6
weeks before premiere, so in a way Reeves was enjoying the movie anew like we
were.
The scene where Malcolm is brought before Caesar
wuz meant to evoke "Apocalypse Now" and "Aguirre, the Wrath of
God".
WETA rebuilt the apes from scratch and assure
Reeves that "Apes 3" will be even better. The scene where Caesar watches himself
and Will from "Rise" on the camcorder? They actually redid Caesar in that clip
so he would match the better apes in "Dawn".
People assume (like I did) that they superimpose
apes over the actors but they actually create a new scene (that's why they have
to film the scenes over without the ape performers). But there were certain
scenes Reeves "marked" that he wanted to keep the whole scene between humans and
apes, so they literally did put the ape over the actor. He mentions the scene
where Koba interacts with the two armory guys ("You want a drink?"); the scene
where they put the injured Caesar in the back of the truck.
Reeves also talks through his work with WETA. Sez
he spent 6 hours a day on SKYPE with them, mostly trying to get as much of the
actor's performance into the ape as possible ("You got his anger but can you
also get his sadness?").
Reeves notes when things got tough they always
had "Rise" to look back on as proof it could work out; but "Rise" had nothing to
compare it to.
The emotion of a scene wuz Job #1; everything
else came after.
Reeves believes eventually motion capture will be
able to directly apply the actor's performance to the role without all the
technical steps they do today. It will free up actors to play roles they may not
have the "body type" for.
The difference between this and "Rise" is they
never used "key frame animation" to create the apes; everything was based on an
actor or stuntman to give it reality.
Besides shooting a scene sans the apes (like a
human doing the scenes pretending to act with an ape) they also shot "clean
plates", which is nothing but the background. So if Caesar and Koba are
fighting, the actors have pads, etc. and they can take those out using the clean
plate.
Reeves sees the 76 gas station as an homage to
growing up in California.
Motion capture can only capture about 8 - 15
performances at a time (15 is pushing it).
When Dreyfus looks at the pics of his family it's
actually Gary Oldman's family; it wuz Gary's idea to help him in the
scene.
Reeves sees Koba as a nod to Kurosawa's "Ran",
"burning down the castle". He's primal rage/revenge.
The scene of Koba attacking the humans reminded
me of "Saving Pvt. Ryan" and Reeves acknowledges that's what he wuz going
for.
Reeves considers the Koba attack the genie out of
the bottle and the relationship between apes and humans will never be the same
(humans can't forgive the attack). I thought it wuz interesting that at the end
Caesar couldn't make the leap Malcolm did. Malcolm risked his own person to try
to talk to the apes but Caesar gives up right away ("they will never forgive").
The biggest challenge wuz the Koba tank POV
shot (1,030 versions by WETA). They had a team of animators that only worked on
that shot for nine months. It wuz one of the last shots finished and they opened
champagne to celebrate.
It's a sad thing but the look of the film wuz
helped greatly in New Orleans by Katrina.
The "Rise" house in New Orleans matched the floor
plan for the one used in Vancouver for "Rise".
The scene where Malcolm runs through the hallways
(where he sees Caesar's son) wuz the only Steadicam shot (and it wuz a bitch
because 3D cameras are heavy).
Reeves wanted Caesar to have a flaw in his
thinking, a blind spot (apes are better than humans morally) which is played
out.
One of the early shots where they knew WETA had
improved their game is the close-up of Maurice the orangutan in the
cage.
One of the advantages of motion capture is
refining scenes up to the last minute.
Fox wuz very supportive with what they wanted to
do because they loved the story.
Last minute ending change: was to end with the
apes watching the ships come in signaling war but the "friends and family"
screenings showed that it was too much too soon (as well as boxing them in for
the sequel). Reeves directed Andy over SKYPE greeting his fellow apes as a
quieter and more reflective ending.
"Dawn" ends with Caesar as a killer and that will
haunt "Apes 3" as Caesar becomes a seminal figure that leads to the POTA we
know.
Then there's the extras, which with the trailers
total about 2 hours (very rare these days):
"Journey to Dawn (9 minutes): Nice remembrance of
the success of "Rise" and their thoughts of moving the story forward. Reeves
talks about his POTA love and it's nice to see Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the
writers who have moved on but made these new movies possible.
"Andy Serkis" (9 minutes): the required
look at the Master of Motion Capture and his approach to the process and this
story. Also on the DVD.
"Humans and Apes" (18 minutes): My favorite
part of the behind the scenes is seeing the ape actors perform and there's
plenty of that as we look at the cast and Reeves as an "actor's
director".
"The World of Dawn" (15 minutes): the look
of the film; shooting on location (85% of the shoot); the costumes (function not
fashion); doing the tank shot.
"The Ape Community" (10 minutes): creating
the ape world and where they are 10 years after "Rise" (sign language,
etc.).
"Move Like an Ape" (15 minutes): a tribute
to ape movement expert Terry Notary (who also got an extra on the POTA2001 DVD
13 years ago); he picked 5 people out of 150 to be ape extras (over and over
again). Notary: "It's performance capture. You see the actor and you see the
soul of the actor in the performance". Also touches on Karin Konoval and her
research to play Maurice the orangutan.
"WETA and Dawn" (20 minutes): This is
about the possibility of apes actually taking over the world. No it's not! We
know what it's about, the folks who make our apes. It's nice that it touches on
how much the original POTA inspires them. Actually Peter Jackson, the co-founder
of WETA, tried to make a POTA movie with Roddy McDowall in his corner but
eventually "Lord of the Rings" became WETA's proving ground. If you want to know
how they create the apes, this is the one for you, the longest extra. It's not
just "pushing a button".
"Fight For a New Dawn" (16 minutes):
sounds like it's about the stunts (covered in "Move Like An Ape") but it's
actually about THE fight, the final battle between Caesar and Koba. It's
actually the only scene that's 100% created in the computer, dubbed Koba's
Tower (as a rule, CG is expensive so you want to use real stuff as much as
possible). Also the challenges of figuring out a scene that just doesn't exist
in reality. Also tacked on is a look at the music composer, Michael Giacchino,
who deserved his own extra. He talks about how much he and Reeves are lifelong
fans of POTA (Reeves presents him with Caesar's spear, just a cool moment
between two fans). Basically this extra is the wrap up (the tower being the
finale, the music being the last element and then some final
words).
Also included is 3 trailers, 4 minutes of deleted
scenes (seems like something's missing) and a preview of Fox's Moses movie
"Exodus: Gods and Kings" (kind of appropriate since it's produced by Apes'
Chernin Entertainment and Caesar has been made out to be the "ape
Moses".
What else can I say? It's a fantastic movie and a
fantastic blu-ray. Ape fans have been waiting a long time for this moment where
Hollywood has caught up to our ambitions and here we are.

It's been announced that Andy Serkis' directorial
debut "The Jungle Book" has been pushed back a year. What does that have to do
with anything? Well, shut up and I'll tell you, Smarty Pants!! Certain young
cynics have chosen to study 2017 as the probable release of "Apes 3". Yes!
Perverted scientists, who advance an insidious theory called "evolution of a
movie". But this news suggests Mr. Serkis has "Apes" duty sooner
rather than later and that it's on track for the 2016 release we've heard about.
That would allow a fast track for the 2018 "Apes 4" 4 the 50th anniversary. It's
beginning to look a lot like...Christmas? No, Apes!

I was sad to hear about my friend Booth Colman.
But it's hard to mourn someone who lived 91 years and spent most of that time
doing what he loved. We should all be so lucky.
I met Booth in 1996 when he agreed to make an
appearance for Eric Greene's book "POTA as American Myth". He did it just for
the hell of it but he enjoyed meeting the fans. So that started a side job of
doing conventions. Booth got to do some traveling and make some fans happy. Some
of you might have enjoyed his ape revelation.
I can't say we were fishing buddies (I
don't even know if he liked to fish) but we hung out whenever we were at
conventions together. And we talked on the phone from time to time. He liked my
"Veetus" cartoons and that meant a lot. When I think of Booth I think of his
sense of humor so we got along great. Booth meant a lot to me over the years.
The last time I saw him was in 2013. He
didn't think much of Burton's "Apes" but I asked him about "Rise" and he liked
it, saying it had a "good script". I don't know if he saw "Dawn" but I assume so
considering he was a member of the Motion Picture Academy (the Oscar folks) and
was privy to a lot of free movies. The last conversation we had he invited me to
an Academy showing, but sadly it didn't happen.
In short, did Booth know his portrayal of Zaius
was loved? You betcha! Of course I always wince when he's called "Dr.
Zaius" because he's never called that in the TV show. It was just Zaius and
definitely a different character.
Here's my interview with him:
And here's Booth's credits. He may have been
in more than you assumed:
R. I. P. my friend. You will live on in your
work.

Subject: "Rise" director talks low Apespectations
This is basically an interview about "Rise"
director Rupert Wyatt's new movie "The Gambler" (which hits today, his first
movie since "Rise"). But he talks about the low expectations for "Rise" (thanx
to a movie starring his current star Mark Wahlberg). This is an aspect I haven't
heard talked about re: "Rise". They asked a lot of people to direct it
(including Oliver Stone, who was a would be "Apes" producer in 1993) but
were turned down. Wyatt sez that's why he got the "opportunity" and certainly he
made the most of it.
Wyatt reportedly returns to sci-fi with a
10-part miniseries "The Echo Chamber" (originally an I.R.A. story but they felt
they could do more with it as sci-fi). I liked "The Escapist" and "Rise" so I'm
always interested in what he's got going on.

One thing Booth seemed blessed with was good
health (though I didn't talk to his doctors). He always looked great and seemed
to do whatever he wanted. To reach 91 like that is something we can only hope

.htmlSomething weird happened on Wednesday, just as I was heading out to Toronto.
A parcel arrived which I though was some apes charcoals I won on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-3-ORIGINAL-PLANET-OF-THE-APES-CHARCOAL-DRAWINGS-/331391552987). But when I opened the box it was this poster book!
I did not order it, and there was no information aside from the packing slip. Nobody I asked sent it to me as a gift. The only reason I can think off is this contest Jeff pointed out to us way back in MAY! The only clue
I have is that it came directly from the publisher.
I was only able to open it once I got back yesterday. Some very nice posters inside on very thick stock. Minor qualms: two sided so you can't have all the posters shown together, one of the movie posters is a bit
cut off at the top and they wasted an entire poster on James Franco (yes even the 2001 posters are better than Franco). A lot of the pictures (all of which we've seen before) look great in these huge dimensions.
Thanks Jeff! (I guess I can consider this a X-Mas gift from you!) Dario

Not to take away from your nice remembrances of Booth, but I agree with your shuddering of the TV character being called "Dr. Zaius"... As you said, he's just
referred to as "Zaius", but he is also (at least in the first episode) referred to as "Chief Councilor Zaius".. In any case, he's no doctor, and definitely *not* the same Zais as in the films...

It's been almost a year since Fox announced that
"Apes 3" would be released in July 2016 but scratch that. Now it's 7/14/17. That
means no 50th anniversary "Apes" movie in 2018. That means no "Apes" movie in
the Year of the Monkey (2016). : (
The director has said it's going to be a
very ambitious movie, but no reason has been given for the move. Fox's comic
book movies "X-Men" and "Fantastic 4" still seem on track for sequels 2 years
after their last ones but "Apes" is being given more time. Could it be script
probs? Dunno.
Where does that leave "Apes" competish-wise? So
far it looks sandwiched between the next "Pirates of the Caribbean" (July 7) and
the next "Thor" (July 28).

I've been a little disappointed with Dawn's place
in the critics' Top 10 lists for 2014 that I've seen. "Dawn" seems to have been
pushed aside in peoples' memories and I don't have much hope when the
Oscar noms are announced on Thursday (I think FX is in the bag and there's a
good chance POTA will win this time). "Dawn" seems to have lost out in the
memory banks to other sci-fi flicks like "Edge of Tomorrow", "Interstellar",
"Snowpiercer" and especially "Guardians of the Galaxy" (the debate about whether
"Rise" is better still seems in play). But my boys the Schmoes picked up the
slack. Right on.

Wasn't this supposed to be released today? Went to their site and could not find it in New Releases. Search function with 'planet apes' only turned up Elfman's score for Burton's fiasco.
Anybody have a link to order it? Would like to know how much including shipping. Dario

One thing "Dawn of the POTA" has going for it
this awards season is the FX, and the the Visual Effects Society has bestowed
many nominations on it for their awards: Best FX for a FX-driven movie, Best
Character (2, for Caesar and Koba), Best Virtual Cinematography and Best
Compositing. Also, Matt Reeves' good buddy and partner through much of his
career J. J. Abrams will receive the Visionary Award. J. J. will also announce
the Oscar nominations Thursday so maybe that will be good luck for "Dawn" (in
case you haven't heard, J. J. directed the new "Star Wars" movie so he's all
that in Hollywood right now).

"Dawn" joined "Birdman" in getting the most
nominations for sound editing from the Motion Picture Sound Editors. Both got 3;
"Dawn" got it for Best English Feature, Best FX sound editing and Best Music
editing. That's two groups where "Dawn" got the most noms (FX, snd editing).
Could that make it 2 Oscar noms tomorrow?

.htmlCafepress is not selling these themselves.
Cafepress is a site where anyone can upload a logo or image and then have customers buy 'swag' with the logo/image. It's used by home/small businesses, clubs, low budget indie filmmakers, artists, etc to
have a quick and easy way to sell items that can be used to promote things. The beauty is these are all made-on-order, so even if nobody buys a particular item, there is no loss.
I'm sure their rules stipulate that you can't upload copyright material, but the ANSA logo is not that distinguishable and it's copyright status may be more debatable. I figure 'retroranger' is
some enterprising POTA savvy individual to have used ANSA in this particular cafepress shop.
Cool ANSA logo, but too pricy (as most cafepress items are) for me.

Just an FYI, I ordered this on the day it was released and received it today (one week later), so it should start showing up in your mailboxes soon if it hasn't
already...
I haven't played it yet, so I can't comment on the sound quality, but I did do a very quick glance at the liner notes... Not only do they include a picture of Zira, Cornelius, and Milo from ESCAPE, but the liner
notes author says that Ron Harper was cast as *Burke* and James Naughton was *Virdon*. He also states that the TV series "movies" included the *unaired* episode "Up Above the World So High", refers
to Fauna from "The Deception" as *Farna*,(oh yeah, "Farna" falls in love with *Virdon*, not Burke!) and states that *Virdon* is the one subjected to brainwashing in "The Interrogation"... I
am sure there are other mistakes, but those just jumped out at me upon glancing at the notes...
I'm sure you're all aware of the soundtrack in question, but in case you missed the recent posts containing the information, here it is again:

thought my disc was defective... It was only until I looked at the track listing that I seen the title of that bit and realized the noise made sense... That said, it is 1:04 of some of the most grating noise you'll

.html
.html
David Oyelowo received raves this winter for his
performance as Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Best Picture nominee "Selma". But
some felt his director and he weren't properly rewarded with nominations too and
it's led to a controversy this Oscar season. Obviously the problem is that
Hollywood is gun shy about casting actors of color in leading roles, unless they
are specific names like Will Smith, Denzel Washington and Samuel L.
Jackson; or if it's specifically targeted to a racial audience, like Tyler
Perry's movies; or it's a specific history lesson, like "Selma" or "12 Years A
Slave". As Oyelowo sez: "The only way I get a leading role in a studio picture
is if Ryan Gosling can't play it, which is clearly the case with "Selma". If
this was a non-color-specific character, it wouldn't be me. It just
wouldn't".
Anyway, he also mentioned how "Rise" was able to
go deeper (he played Jacobs): "I know not everything is the same as playing Dr.
King. "Rise of the POTA" is not a film I walk away from thinking, "OK, that's
fundamentally about the enrichment of people's lives". But it is
thought-provoking. And the fact that it smuggles elements of the civil rights
movement into the story of an ape uprising - well, that has value for me, it's a
very conscious decision to follow my heart rather than the dollar".

| Subject: Apes vs. Spiderman in 2017? |
.html
.html
The big movie news of the moment is that Marvel
Studios is getting creative control of their flagship character Spiderman,
though the movie rights are still owed by Sony. Sony's 2 recent "Amazing
Spiderman" movies have been met with yawns, though they did alright. During the
2000s "Apes" hit a brick wall with POTA2001 (it did $362 million worldwide based
on the name and the director but wuz not received well). Meanwhile, Spiderman
soared at the box office (Spidey 1 - $822 m. ww; Spidey 2 - $784 m.
ww; Spidey 3 - $891 m. ww).
The 2010s saw POTA ascend ("Rise" - $482 m.
ww) while the new "Amazing" Spidey reboots faltered ("Amazing" 1 - $758 m.
ww). By 2014 Apes and Spidey were pretty much equals: "Dawn" - $708.8 m.
ww; vs. "Amazing Spidey 2" - $708.9 m. ww. POTA wasn't even invited
to the same parties as Spidey in the 2000s and now when they pass on the street
Spidey sez to Apes: "What's up? Want to get some coffee?". They're bros now. Who
would've thought that would happen?
So now it comes to this: The new Marvelized
Spidey will debut in a Marvel movie in 2016 (probably a new actor, etc.) before
getting his own solo movie on 7/28/17, in the line of fire of Ape 3's
run (7/14/17). A Marvelized Spidey could be a formidable thing (they did "Iron
Man", "The Avengers", "Guardians of the Galaxy", blah, blah, blah). "Dawn" had
it pretty easy competish-wise. "Apes 3" will have it rough ("Pirates 5" is also
already scheduled against it). Is Fox going to step up to the plate budget-wise
and story-wise with POTA? Will "Apes 3" be moved? Will "Apes" hand Spidey's
bloodied corpse back to Marvel and say, "Nice try".
Stay tuned!

said that a lot of stuff the sold in the US they would not sell here. Now all the sellers on eBay want ridiculous prices for the 2 pack and then want to charge excessive postage on top of that. I doubt I'll ever get
one.
Thanks for the info.

NYTF are the initials that poster used in his messages, so I'm not 100% sure of their meaning... I'm guessing New York Toy Fair... As to whether or not they'll be a store exclusive, I don't have any
info on that, but I'm going to guess no... We'll just have to wait and see...
And about the two-pack: That's a Toys R Us exclusive... I think Target's only exclusive was the Gorilla Soldier in different packaging that you'd get if you pre-ordered DAWN on Blu-Ray...

Yes, it's too bad about their future being "uncertain", but as you say, at least they're giving APES a shot... I had an inkling about them being "iffy", that's why I posted that
they're not releasing Julius due to tooling issues and pending line survival...
Series 3 seems pretty certain, but I'm not holding my breath for anything after that... The Lawgiver statue and the three TV series officers seem hopeful, anyting after that is, as they say, frosting on the cake...

It could mean that. Or it could just mean that they are just uncertain as to which characters to do next and maybe even are considering pushing the larger figures in the future.
While I can't say for sure it does not look like the sales were not good. Sellers on eBay seem to be gouging and selling (or at least trying to sell) at premium prices. So there does seem to be demand. On the
other hand perhaps retailers did not order as many as NECA thought they would. For what it's worth, the local shop I got mine sold uot of their series one stock already and have only a few series two figures left on
their shelves.

Subject: "Dawn" vs. "Interstellar"
OK, so it looks like either "Dawn" or
"Interstellar" will take home the Oscar on Sunday. Tradition seems to be leaning
toward "Interstellar". It won the BAFTA, the "British Oscar". Since it first
awarded FX in 1983 there have been 33 winners, though we can only compare 32
since, well, they haven't awarded the Oscar yet. Out of 32 winners, 12 have not
won the Oscar. Since 2000, BAFTA and Oscar have disagreed only 3 times.
Meanwhile, "Dawn" was the big winner at the
Visual FX Society (kind of like the Guild awards: Director's Guild,
Writer's Guild, etc.). It won 3: Best FX movie (the biggie), Best Compositing
and Best Character (Caesar); "Interstellar" won one: Best Created Environment
(since "Dawn" mostly used real environments; forest, streets). Added to that is
their fellow Oscar nominee "X-Men: Daze of Future Past" won two: Best Virtual
Cinematography and Best Simulations.
So it would seem "Interstellar" has the edge. In
2011, BAFTA and Oscar disagreed but neither chose "Rise" (BAFTA picked "Harry
Potter", the Oscar went to "Hugo"). So we can also add a PR problem: "Apes" just
don't get no respect. There were many who felt "Rise" was robbed and that may
play into the vote this year. But it's no sure thing.
Will the Academy once again say, "Take your
stinkin' paws off that Oscar, you damn dirty "Apes"!"?

The acclaimed TV show "Mad Men" is coming to an
end this May and AMC has been showing some ads (rerun often) with famous people
talking about "Mad Men" and why they like it. Currently the show has been
running Sunday mornings and I've been taping them. Of course since it's set in
the '60's they did an ep that referenced POTA ("The Flood", about the Martin
Luther King assassination). I just came across one of those ads where Dana Gould
comments on that episode and shows his copy of "The Ape" newspaper.
For the hell of it, I jotted down what Dana sez:
"I am a huge fan of POTA. And I often wondered when they got up to 1968 if they
would reference it. What really struck me was in the (movie) theater Don
(Draper) is reading this newspaper called The Ape. This was a real thing. I am a
POTA nut and I actually have my copy of The Ape. So I was really blown away by
the attention to detail. And if you come in close (with the camera) it was 5
frailins. And that was back when 5 frailins was a lot of
money". <.html <.html

Conquest Caesar (looks really good), Conquest Gorilla and GENERAL! Aldo. Series
4 I guess will be Julius, Urko and TV's Veska. If they have to stop after that,
well, that's still a damn good run. And also the 8" Megoesque Gorilla (which I'm

I don't check the monthly Previews magazine in which all comics and 'toys' are advertised ahead so that comic shops and their costumers can order these, but assumed that wave 3 was listed.
Unfortunately the comic shop where I pick these up is no longer just on my way home from work so I can't find out easily if they were listed and if my shop ordered them. This is a pretty big comic store and they
have an extensive action figure section. They even have one guy dedicated to stocking/ordering figures and he knows his shit. We talked about the exclusives and he himself proclaimed frustration not being able to order
exclusives in the past. When the first wave was announced I dropped in to make sure to order a set for myself. This is when I first met the guy and he said, something to the effect of "Don't worry, I put in an
order for POTA stuff even if I hadn't specifically ordered them". That's why I did not even bother preordering wave 2 and just dropped by the store the week they were released.

A limited release certainly would suck...
It's an odd postion they're in, do they do a wide release and have sales potentially equal what they've been for Series One and Two?... But, if they go limited release, they're potentially cutting off
their core audience who've been buying the figures all along: You cannot buy what you cannot find...

So where will you be able to get him? Sounds like
this week they will announce their plan to get these figures directly to the

is minimal. Probably selling at cons, online and maybe a limited Toys-R-Us
promotion. All to be determined". Sales of Series 3 will determine Series 4

The great Vietnam War series "China Beach"

watching it. The first season was a short 6 episodes so they grabbed Zuma Beach
(where Taylor found a certain statue) for their beach scenes as well as the Fox
Ranch (often a home to POTA) for their sets. Later seasons they moved to Indian
Dunes in Ventura, the Warner Bros. lot and also Hawaii. But the first year it's
fun seeing the iconic POTA beach portray Vietnam during the '60's, since that
was POTA's era. Such as at the end of this video:

Also, NECA has said there's no further plans for

Also, NECA has said there's no further plans for "Dawn of the POTA" figures. Makes sense, what more could they do with it that's realistic financially? The first series scratched the itch. We'll
