.html I love the Mego re-issues and pray we may still yet get more than just
the four.I can remember buying the originals as a kid, and I'm a kid
again, buying these (in real terms, I think they're actually less
expensive NOW than they were in 1975).One thing though--what the hell
happened to Zira's boots?! In the original, they're dainty and have a
swirly glyph, but on the new Zira, they're thick and smooth like a
surgical boot! John, Scrolls. <.html

True--it's unavoidable that new fans will ask frequently asked
questions. Hence, the need for an FAQ--which both groups could refer
people to.
>Although a rundown of previous questions is a good idea , you will find
>there are members who genuinely would prefer feedback, otherwise what

I think an FAQ could serve as a good jumping-off point for such
discussions, though. If someone asks "Why does the first film say
3978, but the second film says 3955?" then that person could be
referred to the FAQ so no one would need to explain that yet
again. Upon reading the FAQ answer, that person could then come
back, informed about the background to that question, and begin a
fascinating discussion by giving their opinion of the whole debate. <.html

.htmlJames Bond is really the first of the modern day movie franchises. The Corgi Aston Martin from Goldfinger is the longest running toy movie tie-in in history. The producers of the Bond films were teaching lessons that it took Hollywood another 20 years to learn.
POTA though was the first of the Hollywood franchises, the Bond films being produced in Europe. Arthur Jacobs really was a trailblazer in the respect. George Lucas took what Jacobs and the Bond film makers had done and brought it to a whole new level. And Hollywood hasn't been the same since.

.htmlDon't worry Mark, there are no plans to change the format of this group. (Unless the other Moderators have decided on something they haven't told me about ;-)
It is true that there are many questions that have been discussed many times here. However, one of the great things about new members is that they sometimes have a new take or outlook on an old topic that may never had been considered before.
While I know of no specific member who is "getting sick of answering old questions" as you put it. But to anyone that does should refer to the Group Guidelines (http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files/PostingGuidelines.htm), specifically:
If a topic or thread does not interest you please pass it by or start a new topic. Please do not put-down other members or try to shut down a thread because you are not interested in it.
As far as the UK live shows from the '70s, I'm sorry we have not been more helpful in digging up info on them, but it has not been for lack of trying.

I think one of the reasons help hasn't been so easy in connection with the
live shows is only us oldies remember them, and posters of that type would end
up in the bin, postered over or scapped off.
So not so many remain , not like movie posters which has always had
collectors.
But i'm surprised that more members didn't attend or remember them, even
collect some items from them.
One more question did member ever upload that Lee's catalogue?

"The original Mego Zira had western female boots from a Dinah-Mite outfit (Mego's 8 inch Barbie) and it was going to cost a few thousand dollars to tool the Zira boots. Since most of the boots are hidden by the skirt, we decided to use the Uhura boots in a light brown and put the money into tooling Dr.Zaius' boots instead."

.htmlI have mixed feelings about a standarized F.A.Q.
While it may be helpful to a list of questions have come up before, it might result in stifling new members (and maybe even some old members).
One of the goals of this group is to be a repository of POTA information in the Files Section, Photos Section, Links Section, Calendar or Database section. And the great thing is everyone is able to access and add to these resources. Plus there are even more resources available on other groups and websites (like Hunter's) that fans can consult.
I personally don't understand why fan would find it bothersome to answer another fan's question, even one that had been answered many times before. How hard is it to say, "Here's the answer and you can find more info on that subject on Hunter's site or an old issue of Simian Scrolls or that Timeline book written by what's his name", and then provide a link. Like Mark said most of the this info can be found by doing a Google search but it lacks the personal touch. And it is that personal touch that makes us a community rather than just an collection of individual fans.
Plus who is to decide on what the questions are and more importantly the answers? The great thing about this and other groups and message forums (like Forum of the Apes) is that everyone's voice can be heard. Would anyone really want a small group dictating the questions and the answers? Again that would just stifle newer members and fans.
Using the question you brought up as an example, the difference between 3978 and 3955. I have my own personal explaination for the difference. But who is to say that is the right interpetation. Others may have their own view. A new member may have a new explaination that none of us has never considered before. Would we really want to mute that because a small cadre of fans have already decided on a standardized answer?

From what I read, Jeffrey Katzenberg

Fund. But the residences that surround will remain, so I guess that would mean
the statue and the gardens are safe.

.htmlThere isn't much that Apes would need to actually cook since that don't eat meat. Of course when "chimp meet grill" they could do fruit. We know that Zira bakes (cakes) yet we never see an oven. Then again she might be doing when they did on Open (human that is) Range which is bake inside a big cast iron pot with a lid.
Due to above mentioned, and for other reasons, it led me (as a kid) to fill in those gaps, and make happy a female friend of mine who agreed to play "planet of the apes" only if I made her a kitchen.

Watching Beneath recently I noticed an odd piece of furniture in Cornelius & Zira's house.
It looks like it is a stove. But a wood or coal burning stove would need a chimney.
Any thoughts? |

.html This from an interview with Eric McCormack ("Will & Grace") and Tom Cavanagh ("Ed") who star in a new show called "Trust Me"
"A piece of pop culture memorabilia from your childhood you wish you still had?
Cavanagh: I had this old Vancouver Canucks hockey jersey with the 'C' in the form of an ice rink that people used to offer me a billion dollars for. In the last seven or eight years, they've had this whole retro craze, and you can now get these things online, so it's lost its value... Boring.
McCormack: I had a fantastic shirt, it was like a velour shirt with a Planet of the Apes face on it. It was Roddy McDowall as Cornelius. It wasn't just a picture; it was like a big plastic or rubber relief that was sewn on to the shirt. It was a magnificent thing. I loved my Planet of the Apes shirt. I think my mother probably put it in the dryer and it melted." <.html

If anyone gets the American Life TV Network on their cable/satellite
provider, try and watch Batman tonight at 9:00 PM EST (repeats at 11:00 PM) and
see if you think the subway set you see at the beginning of the episode
looks at all like the subway from BENEATH. Something just seems *familiar* about
it, almost like the set was still standing and they modified it for use
in BENEATH.
Also, a lot of tonight's episode of The Green Hornet ('Seek, Stalk, and
Destroy') was shot at the Fox Ranch. The scenes are at the middle and
towards the end when The Green Hornet and Kato are going to where the stolen
tank is being kept to try and negotiate it's return.

.htmlNow that I've done massaging her face, I will bake her in the oven with Galen for about 20 minutes at 260 degrees fahrenheit. Once they have cooled off in there, I can pop the heads back onto the figures that I plucked them off of and paint them. But, since I want to accomplish both 1:6 scale and 1:9 figures, I am going to make a two part mold. Once the mold is ready, I will pour liquid plastic and make a positive and make as many positives for whoever wants to get a copy of the sculpt in 1:6 scale.
To shrink it to Mego scale, I will use the same mold and pour another shrinking medium to make another positive. This medium will slowly shrink uniformly as it dessicates. It may take weeks to get it to shrink to the appropriate Mego scale, but I can speed the process by putting the positives in a dehydrator (which I don't have)...so weeks it will take. Once the positive has achieved the right size, I will add a neck plug that would fit Mego body onto the base of the neck. I will then make another mold of this and then pour liquid latex into the mold and I can make it available for those interested. It sounds like a lot of work, but it's ape related and it's fun for me. I'm still figuring out how to make a good mold, but I will do it so help me God.
So once all these characters are on their respective bodies, both 1:6 and 1:9 scale, I will paint them. Then I will customize their clothing. If you can believe it, the Mego scale customs are more difficult because of its tiny size. The most difficult custom will be the hieroglyphs of the President of the Academy Mego scale. But I will accomplish all these in time. And I want them all to look screen accurate. A lot to do but it's a labor of love.

In the mego scale have you thought about Taylor/ Brent / Mutants/
Nova possibly more but they should keep you busy for a couple of
years!
Only kidding but they are not available at present, could be quite
interesting, the carsia is looking very good.
Will you be selling painted or unpainted.
If unpainted what paints are required ( i dont mean what colours, i
mean type of paint? )

.htmlMark,
Mego-scale apes, I only have Zaius, Zira, Cornelius and General Ursus. I have to re-do Dr. Zaius's outfit (traded the one I made so my Zaius is naked).
Mego-scale human, I only have Taylor. I purchased a Mego scale head that was originally a 1:6 scale sculpt that somebody shrank to Mego scale. I painted it (took three tries to get it right) and sewed his outfit. (I forgot that I have Burke & Virdon too, but they're not screen-accurate enough for me) so they don't count yet.
Haven't found a nice enough Brent sculpt or Nova sculpt that is screen accurate. I know that Dodge and Landon are needed in Mego scale as well. I will sculpt them after I run out of apes to make. Hadn't thought about mutants, but they would be a cool project!
You can use water based acrylic paint to paint the plastic resin. You just need very fine brushes and a steady hand. A magnifying glass helps, too. I will sell the casts painted or unpainted. I charge $30 to paint one head. It takes me about 3 hours to paint, sometimes more.

Watching Beneath recently I noticed an
odd piece of furniture in Cornelius & Zira's

It looks like it is a stove. But a wood

Any thoughts?

I don't know how a proper dehydrator works
but I used to have a cheap one for fruit and

Small heads like that can have a 1 piece seamless
silicone mold. TZer is right about turning it inside out and no release is

probably is what i use for making garden orniments.
All it is is latex rubber , you paint it over the item , thin layers
and build it up approx 20 layers later you should then be able to
roll it of.
Dont forget a releaseing agent on the item first before starting to
put the later on it.

The Ursus is a most but I don't think I can justify both other figures.
I plumped for the soldier due to the rifle and bandolier. Pity the flag
wasn't included. Given this set is based around Beneath I don't
understand why the captain has been giving the silver rank stripping
(other than to get an extra sale especially from the TV fans). The
revolver matches the one used to shot Brent but not his tunic. This was
adopted for the TV series wasn't it? I can't recollect it on any
gorilla costume in Beneath nor Battle. <.html

Maybe Zira uses it to make a mean eggplant parmesan. Or Cornelius uses

Interestingly, TVGuide.com mentions in the description for BATTLE that
"Additional footage has been included to this fifth and final chapter of
the series...". For years, the description was always "Fifth and final
chapter of the series...". I bring this up because there's no mention of
which version of CONQUEST will be shown, either on TVGuide.com or the FMC
website. All are in widescreen though, and the Fox Legacy version of
PLANET is being shown so we'll get to see Rothman and his blah blah blah

Ten Movies With Not-So-Great, Actually Really Bad, Leads
"7. Charlton Heston, Planet of the Apes
The problem with Heston is that in this movie, he is not holding a
stone tablet from a mountain, which is the level of faux-gravitas he is
bringing to a movie set in a world run by apes. His melodramatic cries
and grunts make the character as empathetic as a chair. Sure, he was
good looking and he had that voice, but image an actor with a broader
range in the part? Agony, anger, Heston had those covered. But what
about everything in between?
Better Casting: Marlon Brando, Roy Scheider, Laurence Olivier"

The part of the neck which will accept the neckpost will need to be drilled out according to which figure you will use him for. If you are interested, send me an e-mail. If you want him painted, add an additional $45 since it takes me forever to paint one head to my satisfaction. If ever there is one made the general feeling is that its going to be
either a follow on or a remake of a previous film.
However has anyone thought about the possibility of keeping true to the
original book, set in the future with apes flying .
This was the original idea for the first movies but at that time $$$$$$
was king and something had to give.
That's the reason we ended up with the storyline set in the ape city we
all see in the original movie.

Apes taking over earth without any sign of nuclear war or natural catastrophe simply doesn't make any sense. Not when humans out number apes 50,000 to 1, or whatever it may be. :o)
That's why a prequel or sequel to Burton's Apes would be completely foolish.
At least in my opinion anyway.

have kept these kinds of franchises alive over the decades, and most fans
want to see these same characters/storylin es and find out what would
be happening now 30 to 40 years later. Based on early reports, I
really don't have a good feeling about this. It could be an interesting film,
but it won't do anything to further POTA as we know it. <<

BSG would belong in the same list with the others. By most accounts, the
new Bionic Woman and the new Knight Rider were pretty bad--but the new

I probably should have clarified that I wasn't referring to the quality (or
lack thereof in the case of BW) on the series I mentioned, but rather the
screwing around with the original elements/characters. I know a lot of people
hold the new BSG in pretty high regard.
I would tend to agree with Rich about BSG. The new version is
far superior to the original. The original is a cartoon in
comparison.
But one thing about the new versions of BSG, BW & KR, for
the most part they've kept the original concepts and most of the original
characters but updated them for a contemporary audience. <<
In the case of BSG, I really had a problem with the changing the gender of
some of the characters. That's definitely not keeping most of the originals
intact. Plus they changed the nature of what the Cylons were, the power
structure of the Cylon empire, etc. It's an entirely different beast. I
think I would have had a lot more respect if Moore and company had just called
it something different- it wouldn't have changed the quality of the writing at
all, and there wouldn't have been such a division between the fans. The show is
ending after only four seasons because of the sliding ratings, and considering
how long series like Stargate and Stargate: Atlantis ran you can definitely see
that there's a market for this kind of stuff. When the final Season was
announced, the showrunners tried to spin it by saying something like "Oh, we
want to be true to the fans and not drag this out over too long a period of
time". Mmm-hmm. So, if the Sci-Fi Channel had come to them and wanted to
reup for another three or four seasons they would have said "No, we want to
be true to the fans"? Somehow, I doubt it.
As for BW, I think that Jamie was the only character from the original
series. No idea about KR, but I don't recognize any of the character's names or
if it's even tied to the original.

There's been film related merchandise and memorabilia since the days
of Disney, but POTA was the first movie to be mass merchandised and until that
point nothing- NOTHING- had come close to scale that Apes was done on. I'm sure
Lucas took notice of that too when he made the deal with Fox to retain the
merchandising rights back with the original Star Wars film.
And let's not forget that Star Wars happened because of the success Fox had
with Apes a few years prior.

>>I know that Star Wars is the biggest Movie related franchise but
was Planet of the Apes the first . But at least with the Burton version
that makes six movies , which is the same has Star Wars, both Planet and
Star have done cartoon, but only Planet have done T.V series Was there
any over film before Planet that sold film memrobilia ?????
