Lance Brick, AKA "The Monster Craftsman," sent me this photo, and I
thought some of you might be interested. Strictly speaking, this has nothing to with
Apes, but...read on.
I was looking at Home Depot's after Halloween close-out sales to see if they had
any life-size, glow-in-the-dark skeletons left. Unfortunately, they didn't; but
they did have a bunch of mediocre-looking gorilla masks marked down 75%, to
$7.50. As I said, at first glance, the mask itself wasnt particularly
impressive (see before & after photos); but I thought that it showed a bit of
promise for customizing; and for only $7.50, how could I go wrong? So I
enlarged the eyeholes, trimmed back his beard (which went all the way to his
lower lip), styled his hair and gave him a full repaint. My goal was to create
a cross between the original Planet of the Apes gorilla and Rick
Baker's 1976 King Kong, and it really exceeded my expectations!
Should you decide to pass any of this info on to your visitors, the mask
is still
available on Home Depot's website for $7.49; and while it is a
full-size, over the head mask with a movable jaw, be warned that the face and
ears are just cheap PVC, not vinyl.

Thanks, Lance!

Thanks to Nick for pointing out some problems with the Marvel Apes
magazine scans, I've corrected a couple of errors in a couple of files, and
I've corrected the DPI settings for most of the issues. Some had incorrect DPI
settings, which resulted in the images being really small (or huge) when
viewed in Acrobat or printed. They should all print fairly consistently now.
For the record, these issues have been updated: 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13,
14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 28, and 29. All had DPI issues. Issue 18 originally
had a couple of repeated pages, and issue 22 had one page that was upside-down.
You can find the Marvel magazines in both PDF and CBZ formats on the
Marvel magazines page.
