Here's a Christmas present from Lori! There's a
website that contains scans
of Christmas catalogs from Sears, JC Penney, and Montgomery Ward, and Lori
went through and collected all of the pages from those catalogs that featured
Planet of the Apes merchandise spanning the years 1974, 1975, and 1976.
Some of these listings can be found on the Merchandise
Ads page, but these are the full pages from each catalog.
Lori noted, "For the years 1977 and 1978, the catalogs only had the
Viewmaster reels, so I didn't include them in the file. And only in JCP and
Wards. The last Apes items in Sears was 1976."
So sit down, travel back to the mid-'70s, and pore over the Christmas catalogs
once again, dreaming of the Apes things Santa may leave under your
tree!
Apes in the Christmas Catalogs, 1974–1976
Thanks, Lori! Merry Christmas, everyone!

Over the past few months, I've spent time digging through the Wayback Machine
to reconstruct, as completely as I could, several defunct Apes-related
websites. These sites now live again as Subsites
of this Archive site. They join several other subsites that I had previously
resurrected. You can see all of the subsites here by clicking here
or using the pull-down menu at the top of the page.
As great as the Wayback Machine is, not all files were saved for all sites.
I've done my best to restore the sites completely, but you're likely to find
some missing images or files that I just could not restore because they no
longer exist. But all of these sites are at least 90% complete, and some are
100% complete. I also converted obsolete video files to modern videos that
can be enjoyed again. You'll definitely find external links that no longer
work, but there's not a lot I can do about most of those.
Do you know of a Planet of the Apes site that used to exist, but
doesn't anymore? Drop me a line,
and I'll see what I can see....

The Forbidden Zone
Used to be one of the best. Especially notable for its
edit of the "PotA" movie if it were an episode of
Twilight Zone.

Brian Brady has sent in scans from a satire magazine that I'd never even
heard of until he sent it! The first issue of Blast, February 1971,
featured a parody called "Beneath the Dignity of the Apes."
The parody was written by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by
Bernie Wrightson!
You can see scans and
download PDF and CBZ files from the
Magazine Articles page.

Earlier this year, Harry Barnes sent scans of the labels of vinyl records
featuring radio spots (advertisements) for Planet, Escape, and
Battle.
Harry has now digitized the recordings, and they've been added to the
Apes Soundtracks page.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the network television premiere
of Planet of the Apes (September 14, 1973; I'm a day late in getting
it posted; sorry!), Lori has compiled the first in a series of incredible
"Then and Now" photo montages of the filming locations for the
Planet of the Apes films!
The photos for Planet of the Apes are available now for your viewing
pleasure. The pages were designed to be viewed in a PDF document. You can
download the PDF file, or you can view the pages as images.

Tom Elliot sent in a photo of the poster for the UK Stage Show in
Stevenage in October 1976! You can see two different posters on the

Mark Taylor has been using AI imaging software to upscale the Return to the
Planet of the Apes cartoon series to HD. As part of that work, he has created
a number of awesome panoramas of certain scenes from some of the episodes. In the
episodes, the camera pans across a scene. Mark has taken those panned images
and combined them to create these panoramas.

In 2014, Blacksparrow Auctions held an "Auction of the Apes" that
benefitted The Center for Great Apes. Screenshots of the catalog have been a
part of this Archive for a long time, but I've just upgraded the quality
of the individual pages with actual scans. Unfortunately, they're not high-res
scans, but they are higher quality than what we had before. The catalog can
also be downloaded in PDF and CBZ formats, of course.

Several years ago, Dave Ballard created mock-up covers for additional volumes of
the novelizations of the Planet of the Apes TV series episodes. He
has now created two more covers for imaginary books #8 and #9. You can find
them and other great Dave Ballard creations here. If you haven't seen them
before, check them out!

One of the problems with the site being so large is that I sometimes forget
what's here! Several years ago, Rob Reading sent in scans of the Japanese
DVD release of the Planet of the Apes TV series, which came in a
nifty DVD case that resembled the spaceship from Planet of the Apes.
I created a page for the scans, then promptly forgot about them. When I created the extensive
Home Video Releases page, I had forgot all about
Rob's scans of the Japanese release. I have now rectified this.
The Japanese DVD release is now linked to the TV Series
DVD Releases page.

I recently found this nifty item on eBay! It's a cardboard promotional brochure
for the five TV movies edited from the Planet of the Apes TV series.
The front has a photo of Roddy McDowall as Galen, but the eyes are die-cut,
showing the eyes of a second chimpanzee inside the brochure.
It has been added to the Pressbooks & Press Kits page.

A recent eBay auction offered advertising flyers for the Playhouse Video
VHS releases of the Apes films in 1985. I missed the auction,
but I did grab the images from the listing. They're not great quality,
but still fun to see. I added them to the bottom of the
Playhouse Video VHS releases
page.
